recording with Fraps or alternatives when multiboxing

HEY! :)

any hints or tips on how to record proper on Fraps, gather them in this post

alternatives to Fraps can also be used

some questions I have off the bat, I run five WoW's on one PC and recording is naturally slow without modifications

1) what value should be entered into setmaxfps on MAIN and on SLAVES?

2) what FPS value should Fraps be recording on?

3) CPU affinity on MAIN and SLAVES?

goal is to archive best video capturing when multiboxing with 2-5 WoW's on one PC (with many PC's it's like regular Fraps capture, no problem)

discuss! :)

I would also like to know more about this...
I never even tried more then once, because everything popped down to 1-2 fps when I first tried - And i thought my computer wont handle it.


Any tweaks to make it happen? :)

if the FPS in WoW is 60, should Fraps be set to record at 30 or at 60?

of course the files Fraps make should be placed on another drive if at all possible (away from WoW's drive)

Set Fraps to record at 30, this will cap your framerate at 30 as well (if your machine can crank out 30fps while recording)...

Yes, stream video to another drive.

There is no magic bullet here, your machine has to be a beefy beast to FRAPS while 5 boxing.

Make sure you're using the new FRAPS 3. I've found that it has improved my performance when recording.

And in addition to recording at 30 fps, you can also choose to record at half or full frame size. Half is great for performance, and is what I did before version 3. But now, while 5-boxing on my Windows 7 64-bit system, I can record my main window @ 1920x1140, 30fps, full-frame. But be warned, that level of detail costs me 4GB of hard drive space every 1.5 minutes :eek:

This! I noticed great improvement using 3.x compared to 2.x.

My laptop has an extra hdd slot. If I buy this hdd: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136459 would I be able to run Fraps or alternate recording program while running my 4 accounts on 4gigs of ram? The rest of my laptop specs are in the link in my sig. Question tho, about how much ram does Fraps use up on average settings? Or atleast at what you guys/gals use?

Fraps is NOT ram intensive, it's disk and cpu intensive. Laptops have crap disks traditionally... the best way to find out is to download the free trial, and try it.
