Currently i'm 3boxing a set of mages (thanks a ton speed for pointing me here!), but i'm wondering, when it comes to 3 boxing, is it more worth it to do 3 dps classes for ease of soloing quests or to have tank/heals/dps?
and for Tank/Heals/DPS how can that be set up to where the macros work and such. It seems complex, but maybe i dunno what i'm doing (new =D)
Running an all DPS team is far easier in my experience. Dual-boxing a healer/dps isn't bad either, when you had 3+ one being a healer is when it gets tricky. It really depends on what you want to do with your toons, if you are just going to level and you aren't running with 5 toons I'd say stick with all DPS. I personally wanted to be able to run my own instances, quite a bit harder then an all DPS team, but it allows me to do my own thing and not rely on others to get a 5-man group.
in my limited experiences I found that multiboxing casters whether they are dps are healers is not very hard. Adding melee (ie a tank) to the mix is what makes it difficult because then positioning becomes a big factor in things where as spellcasting could hardly care what you are targetting or how far away you are from it. My hats off to the people who can run tank/healer/3xdps, it takes a lot of work to pull that off IMO.Quote:

and there are a number of people who are 5boxing dps and can clear a number of instances without too much problem, including some heroics. So going with 5 DPS does not necesarily mean you cant do any instances, however you need some form of heals. so if you want to play mages add in a holy priest or a healadin etc. because raw dps without heals would make an instance not very doable.
In my most limited of experience, I've found the numberpad is your friend.
I have all of my healer's macros bound to these keys so I'm not usually using them.
The nice thing about a tank/healer/dps is that you pretty much always know who is going to be taking the beating and can use that char as your main.
In defense of the raw DPS without a healer in instances...
I happen to know a certain somebody that currently runs 4 mages and a warrior and they have cleared up to Uldaman.
Also the five Shaman route is very viable. So far I'm up to lvl 39 and I have been able to clear instances my level for quite some time. I can see heroics being a bit of a challange, but what fun would the game be if we didn't have the challanges?
