Boosting 60/70 and then 70 to 80. Advice Please.

Hi, thanks for the help in my previous threads here, and all is going well, i have RAF'd 3 new characters to 60 to get them to join my level 80 priest and warlock, i would like some advice on levelling the next stages 60 to 70 and then 70 to 80. i'd prefer to use instances where appropiate;

I have a 60 Paladin, Druid and Mage with a 80 warlock and priest

What would be the best way to boost them now, how would you experienced boxers do the next twently levels.

I'm thinking of boosting with the warlock in Ramparts but he cannot pull loads of mobs at a time maybe 4 to 6 max, but after then he starts taking too much damage or whould i prehaps pull with the paladin and nuke with AOE on the priest and warlock?

Any help or suggestion would be welcome i want to do the levelling in the mpst efficient way possible.

my new multi-class team just hit 60 today so I'm in this boat too.
I don't like questing so much. Always feels like jumping through hoops for rewards, to me.
So I'm boosting. I'll keep in touch with what I've found so far.
www.wowwiki.com/instances_by_level is my friend. I decided for the lulz to drag the team through a boost of Shattered Halls. They got the achievement, but the team only got 28% of a level out of it and it took a lot longer than ramps would have.
Ramparts elite mobs give about 610 per kill. S-Halls guys gave 732 per kill, but were 10 levels higher so took forever to kill.
I think if you're using a lock and priest you'll be able to manage pulling a mob or two at a time, using the lock pet to tank. I think the damage it takes in Ramps will be trivial.

If your lock is demo you can felguard tank and have your pally (spec him holy) and your druid (spec him resto) spam heals on him. Then your priest (shadow specced), warlock and mage can dps. Try it and see how it goes. You might have mana trouble with your lowbie healers, maybe not. Aggro will be the big issue.

We used our 80 paladin to boost thru to 70th. I bet you could do that with your warlock's felguard as mentioned above. You don't need to pull 30 mobs. We found we had more fun using the paladin as a retribution paladin and just blasting thru 2 to 3 mobs at a time. Ramparts took around 15 minutes and it took about 4 runs to get a level. Maybe I'm exagerating. It might have been more like 5 runs. I can't remember.

With rested xp it didn't take real long to get our team to 65th. We spec'd our new paladin tank we were boosting to Holy and just used him to heal, and then we were able to move em to Utgarde Keep to get 70th. The rested xp was fantastic. 3500 xp per giant, 5000+ per proto drake.

From there we just ran instances to 80th. And mixed in some questing here and there.

If you have trouble using the warlock's felguard, I would almost say it'd be easier (and potentially faster in the long run) to just solo level your paladin and then use him to boost the rest.

I'm still at this. My alts are 67 except for the hunter who I've decided to level ahead of the others. She's 73.
The speed of levelling is atrocious. There are no shortcuts. If you just play as your tank and run the alt through instances, it's possible to get 20-25% of a level but it takes you longer and longer to solo those instances. Some bosses are damn near impossible to solo, too (like Keleseth in UK is a cheating frost-tomber)
The other option is to use the 80 and have the 65s (I say 65 because that's the earliest you'll be boosting in Northrend, but UK is still good for XP up until 74) assist. They're not useful at all at first, just sporadic lucky hits. As time goes by they get better and better but by that time it's not really worth dragging them around in the same place because the XP has slowed so much.
Today I took my 72 to Halls of Stone (that's the minimum level to get in). I had to ask a warlock friend to do the summoning, because I gave up on my warlock a few days ago and don't have an 80 on that account to pass Cold Weather Flying down.
I used 4 80s and the 72. I had heard that being within 9 levels means no XP loss, but also that if the enemies are green or yellow to the 80 then you get significantly more XP.
I was getting 1300 per kill or so. That's cool and all, but it meant that a full clear only got me 6% of a level on the 72.
So I'm back to questing. I hate it, because I feel like a tool with no free will (everything's so linear) but it really is just as fast or faster than running them through the highest dungeon they can get into.
At 75 I'll change my plan. That's when the highest dungeons open up (HoL, CoS, UP, ToC). I think you can park an alt at the entrance area in UP and still be in range to get XP from the whole place - but I'll have to test that later.

-Gun Drak was pretty good this way. I'd kill the snake boss, then jump the lowbie down and park them on his platform. They'd be in range for master loot and XP for the entire dungeon (at least, taking the swimming shortcut from colossus to Moorabi).

The rest?

-Utgarde Keep: Great at first. Watch out for Random Second Party Targetting (RSPT) mobs like Dragonflayer Strategist, or the first two boss fights. If you have a clothie you're probably better off leaving them around the corner.
Keleseth will ruin all of your plans by frost tombing your tank, summoning skeletons, and running away. Enjoy your frustrating and agonizing death.
-Violet Hold lets you park them outside of the locking door with the human NPC, and still mooch. For the most part, they're safe, except some bosses zone-wide AoE through that door. The void does, not sure which others do. Many of the portal guardians give XP for being special; this is often double a normal enemy's amount. You *might* be able to solo it, at least some of the bosses, which would be a pretty fat XP boost.
-Azjol-Nerub is hard but fast. You probably can't solo the first boss fight on any one character, though, so like the others you have to bring 2 or more, preferably a team. The best part of this instance is the two quests you get in the early 70s; since it's such a short instance they're quick XP, and are along the way anyway.
-Old Kingdom has great "Mob density" they say, but park your alt around the corner all the time no matter what. If those shadowcasters start Shadow Sickle from far away, or the web winders grab them, or a million other possibilities of what can go wrong do, then you end up wasting a lot of time with the boostee dead.
-Halls of stone: Skip Brann, skip the end. Just reset and farm the first two. If your alt is closer to 72, don't even bring them down that tunnel toward Krystallus; they can mooch XP just fine from the main hallways. If you bring them down that hallway you might hear "CRUSH...." as soon as you take two steps and next thing you know, here comes Krystallus and an army of Iron Dwarves & Shards. Good for a laugh.

Before I came to Northrend, when the alts were 63ish, I tried a little experiment since heroic keys for Coilfang Reservoir and Hellfire Citadel can be bought with Honored reputation. I ran them through Heroics. Conclusion: Not worth it at all.
They'd get the same XP for a +2 or +3 as they would for a +10.

Well in the end i decided to quest 60 to 80, dont know if i'm out of my mind yet but we will see. due to work commeitment i only started the grind on a few weeks ago so i'm only 62, but it seems like every bloody quest is a collection quest.,.. which with 5 toons its a nightmare...

Think i'll have to skip some collction quests or i my go insane

You can try to avoid the collections, but most of the Northrend chains alternate kills - collections.
Sometimes you get 2-3 kills before a collection, but then you can get a 2-3 collections before the next kill stage.

If you can look at the collection stage as a mini-grind, mindlessly killing mobs - with the bonus of a quest reward over and beyond the grind, that can help with the collections. I was so sick of collections, for a week or so I basically did mindless grinding on a team, while having 95% of my attention on my dvd player and went through most of a season of CSI. Collection quests is essentially the same thing, except there's a reward at the end, plus they can open the kill quests too.

If you don't want to do collections at all, you'll quickly run out of quests to do.
As an alternative to collection quests, you can move to another zone and do the kills you can find there.
But you'll reach the same point in a bit.

Instances are the equivalent of the grind, except there's a pattern of where to go next.
You'll generally gear stronger in instances, but wipe a lot more too.
Quests will make you a lot more gold, unless you have an enchanter to DE all the crap you get.

You can also level fairly well in PvP battlegrounds.
It's not as fast as it was, but its still decent.

Mix it up a bit, don't get burnt out; take breaks when you need to.
It helps to always have rested, but not sure that you have enough toons/teams to alternate.

You are so right on the second part. Burnout is our number one killa, I think. I realize what's doing it to me is what happens when we come down from the thrill and status of soloing heroics, or running new 80s through them because we're such cool and friendly multiboxers... we come down to doing quests for 2% of a level a pop.

Varying my routine greatly; I really want to get back up where we belong. (the one alt is 77, the other are pushing 68... running around digging through Candy Buckets for XP right now)

As for what you said about BGs, I hear ya. I never got in the pre-nerf BG XP, so all I know is a run of AV is worth about 6-7% of a level on average, but obviously takes less time out of your day.. That's the same as running an instance. I know the relationship is gone, and will never be what it once was, but I still LOVE Alterac Valley. I have ever since we first met back in 2005. I queue up while questing, and when I don't feel like listening to the QQers: I don't queue up. It's confusing to constantly jump back and forth and come back to where you left off, but you can't argue with the XP

I'm in the same boat.

I will grind 62-65 in AV and maybe Underbog (first boss and reset).

My original plan was to bite the bullet and do Durnholde at 65 then grind Black Morass to 70+, should be easy to micro the boostees. Now I'm thinking at 63-65 it might be better to hit up Northrend and grind the uber fast repop mobs that attack the walls of the first quest hubs. These are 67-68 mobs that I can have my ungrouped DK pet assist on. I have no idea if it's worth it xp wise though.

The burn out is the killer.

I'm having a hard time logging in to do my dailies.
The dailies are easier to do then leveling the mixed team.
Basically, they're earning epic/cold flyers for assorted teams I'll likely want to level eventually.

The mixed team is upper 70's, and pretty much will be another daily team.
Don't have a huge urge to play any of them now.
But they're close, and its an extra 1100g a day, if I need the gold for anything.

The druid team (at 60th from RAF) is exciting to set up macro's/hotkeys.
But I don't really want to level them again.
I'd love to have them at 80th, just don't want to get them there.

Kind of ironic.
So I'm not logging in for long periods at the moment.
Regularly having 1-2 slave windows lock up, requiring a reset/reboot, takes a fair bit away from the game too.
Breaks are good though, they keep the game fresh.
