New HD PCI-e

I saw this http://www.fusionio.com/ioxtreme/ and thought that I might try it out. $895 is pretty expensive, however it has incredible transfer speeds 617MB/s bursts and 520MB/s average reads. What's nice is that it's PCI-e and Im hoping that will prevent the bullshit I dealt with on the SSD drive I bought (OCZ Agility 120) where they wanted me to uninstall all my drives (destroy a raid-0 setup) just so the motherboard and windows would recognize the drive. I'll be searching around for reviews before I make the purchase though.

OCZ has launched a similar product, only it seems to have even better specs, the lowest capacity is 250GB (price should be around 1k $)

I has only recently been announced/launched so I haven't read any hands on reviews yet. But I think the same goes for the fusionIO one.

fusionIO is taking pre-orders and seems to be more prepared to launch the product, from what I have heard OCZ has been talking about theirs for a while. Also, after my first OCZ product I'm real hesitant to use another. They might have some ridiculous install procedure like:
1. remove all components from mobo
2. install pci-e card first
3. flash bios
4. reinstall windows
5. reinstall other computer components one at a time making sure each works
6. if install fails at any point, start at step 1 again and pray.

In short they thought it was fuckin awesome and note on page four that as a database it is 92x faster than a Raptor drive. That's insane and considering that I will be using it for WoW's data folder it pretty much will be used as a database

edit: I just checked out prices for the OCZ drive and it is high 1300s. So 400 more than this drive. Hmmmm.

You do realize that most if not all of those cards essentially consist of a couple SSD drives in raid, right? Yes, it's compact and takes a little less work, but it's still the same basic thing.

edit: upon reading the article I stand by my first statement, but wish to revise that while they're basically the same idea, it appears that it takes a lot less power, and obviously a LOT less effort on your part.

Less effort is what Im looking for... I really dont like messing with RAID controllers.

Multibocks I can understand why you're not so eager to go for another OCZ product when your first experience was that bad.

Also if it is 400$ more expensive I guess thats a big difference.

I just saw an announcement from Super Talent, they will also make a PCI-e drive. It looks like you can buy an empty case and put in what ever drives you prefer. Maybe an easy way to save money... although rumors go their 1TB model will go for 5000 $ an empty case may still be sold at a reasonable value.

I thought the fusionio one was actually one that was already launched, I guess not then?

It says that it launched, but currently there is only a sign up to be notified when you are next to purchase.... so either the line of signups is long (or they take a while to make the product) or they are still not ready to launch.
