I would like help and not be attacked.

Ok I am not a idiot here. SO please dont take me as one. This DB is just something new to me. I feel if I ask in posts I will get yelled at and just given a link. my end goal is to do 5 man heroics by myself. Or to take care of a TON of dps in 25 man raids. I already have a 80 shammy and a War tank waiting up there.

All I am asking for is a few answers here and there from all of you. If you would be kind enough to answer them that would be awesome.

4 vs 5 is there a huge difference?
This will be my first project. Right now I have 4 mages on Trial accounts running fine. SWEEET I got hotkeysnet set up and running I can run 4 instances on my Desktop alone. Should I switch to Keyclone? and Can I demo keyclone?

Now on friday I am going to get wow+BC so i can make alliance Shamans. What I am wondering is it really that big a difference with 4 shamans over the 5 shamans. I dont think I will be able to to the pally at the same time. That might be a bit much. I think. Maybe not.

I tried going with my 80 shammy and my 80 war to test things out all I could get is the ele running in on the War. And then with my mage But the cast times and the button mashing mess up rotations.


I am using a G11 keyboard so I have a few extra keys to use. The whole macro thing is somewhat overwhelming to me. I can make them I somewhat understand them. I can read all the guides in the world to learn more about them.

Where is the best place to start for basic 4 shammy macros. I cant seem to find maybe a Idiots Guide to 4 shammys and a Pally.

This probably all comes out like a noob just asking for help. And I am but I am also one that can do the research and get the answers.

So the questions that come out of this are:

Is there a big difference between running 4 shammies, or running the 4 and 1 pally?

How do I get it so my ranged does not run in on my Melee?

Macros really how many am I going to be using and can I just use the 1-= keys? at least to start with?

And is there a Idiot guide to the 4 shammys and Pally? That would have macros that I can actually look at and study.


Yes I have looked through the forums and I will continue searching But maybe there is someone out there that can just be like a mentor and deal with my moments where there is just a blank void between my ears.

Yes. Consider that if you're running 3 DPS, one more adds 33% more dmg. If you're running 2 DPS and one healer, another DPS adds 50% more dmg.

If Hotkeynet is working fine for you, there's no need to switch. Keyclone does have a lot of nifty features that are very easy to configure. Hotkeynet can do a lot of similar things, just takes a bit more work. ;)

Getting good rotation macros going for mixed classes is a real challenge. Don't over-complicate things, though. Just imagine you're playing that one class but only want to press one button to do most of the work. THen make a macro that does that. Sadly, for classes that have to watch for procs (like Hot Streak, Eclipse, etc.) there's no way to really take full advantage of that without setting up other buttons that fire those conditional spells.

For casters that I do not want following my main into melee range while in combat, I set them up with the same follow macro, but before the /follow line, I add the following condition:

What this does is will automagically follow my melee guys, but I have to press ALT+Follow to have everyone follow if I'm in combat (for situations where I need everyone moving). Make sense?

All depends on how well you can condense your macros. Once I'm in combat on my druids, I only have to press one key for tank/dps/basic heals and the 1-5 keys depending on which character needs spot heals. There are threads hereabouts with good macro setups for your shammies. Don't pigeonhole yourself with one particular setup though. Once you get a playstyle going, you may find that other spell rotations work better for you.

Not sure, there are a ton of people who play shaman groups that can direct you to better posts.

Hehe, don't worry to much, at the start of it all, you will be doing nothing but Lightning Bolt anyways, macro's are not terribly difficult but sometimes they do get out of hand, since 3.2 came out some stuff has changed in the macro world for us boxers so its a bit different than what there was before. By this I mean the mechanics of:

/castsequence name of 1st spell, name of 2nd spell, etc.
and
/castrandom name of 1st spell, name of 2nd spell, etc.

There are a few places to look at for this information such as the wiki, but it does need updating I believe due to some of the changes in 3.2

i totally get where you're coming from with all the questions .. i was exactly where you are a year ago - don't worry about it - this forum has a few hotheads (don't all?), but is generally very helpful

you will have a very tough time doing heroics without 1 pally (tank) + 4 shamans

one way is to bind movement keys to be sent to alts-only and press one of them to break follow before you run in with your tank

totally depends on the player ... i use a ton, many use only the basics - yes you can easily get away with the 1-= to start

dont think so =) but that is probably the most common comp here (pally/DK) so there's a lot of historical info you'll be able to find in the threads re. setup

If you've got HKN working, you don't need keyclone (besides, HKN is free). I used it for the first 8 months and loved it.

If you don't like writing macros, I have a suggestion...

Yes and no, yes due to the fact that Pally has different spells and it ends up being easiest to lead with the pally versus leading with the shaman due to pally being able to stand there and act as a meat shield. But this is really only in instances and 5 man group quest, and even in group quest you could still use the shaman to lead and survive just fine, not so in instances while it has been done normally the person doing the run's on all shaman are well geared and know the instances in and out.

So in the end you will set up yourself with 1-2 keys dedicated to the tank (Pally) and 1-4 keys for the dps on the shaman (Why 4 you might ask? Well some find that manually mashing the keys for each spell allows them to output the most damage, others find that they prefer macro's over manually doing the spells, normally for shaman you have Flame shock, Lava Burst, Chain Lightning, and Lightning Bolt which you will know since you have an 80 shaman :) ) The tank in this case a Pally you have roughly 4 spells to worry about also but those can be cast in a certain order. Yes there is a lot more than just 4 spells but you will always try to keep it the rotation to the spells used the most and the others either on a conditional (ctrl or alt) or put on one of the many keys that are left for you to use.

If you want to post what you normally have set up on your 80 shaman we can make some suggestions as far as macro's are concerned for your other's.

As of now my rotation is Lava, chain, LB,LB flame shock, Lava, chain, LB, Lb and I usually get around 2.8k to 3k out of that rotation. This is mainly on boss fights. or heroic dummy wich does alot of good.
