Most frustrating night of all time
More of a rant than any type of useful info here, if you enjoy other people's demise then this will be pretty good:
Beads of sweat slide down my forehead on a hot summer night, my clammy hand grips the mouse as I control the minions on my screen. I pound away at the keyboard in the dimly lit room of my house, the screen flashes from the violence in game, illuminating my pale skin. I labor away and turn in a few more quests as my eyelids grow heavy. While doing the "fly around and discover lakes" quest, I am greeted by a lovely error on my screen. I read the error while mouthing curse words and slamming my fist on the glass table. I attempt to launch WoW again. Calmness envelopes the room as I find myself safe and sound ready to turn in the quest upon logging in.
Several minutes and beads of sweat later (and a few silent farts for good measure), I decide to try Slave Pens. En route, I get attacked by a swarm of those goddamn fish, the game crashes again and I can feel my computer cackling at me. Same damn mpq. Several more obscene curse words later, the game continues to crash.
As my alts wade in the now calm water, I can feel their patience diminish as they slip into AFK land. I decide to move my main's WoW folder to a different harddisk. Minutes later after copying the 3.5gb mpq file, I fire it up......and crash! Now I'm very frustrated. I connect to my second computer and copy it's patch.mpq over. 3.5gb over 100mbps is sloooooow. Fixed.
The swimming continues. I grasp the cold rocky surface and let out a shriek of joy (think school girl shriek) as I pull my tattered and tired body ashore. I finally reached Slave Pens. But alas, "no more instances can be launched at this time, please try again later". Yet even more obscene and vial profanities slip from my mouth as I use the WoW God's name in vein.
I continuously try to enter, but get the same freaking message over and over again for 10 minutes straight. Spider senses tingling! I sense Horde. Lo and behold a friendly 64 troll priest comes up and fear bombs us. The little bastard doesn't realise the instances are on lockdown and he won't be entering! Ha ha ha, sweet revenge. Once out of fear I catch up with him (ret paladins ftw) and make short work after a judgement of crusader. However, he managed to get one last fear bomb out before he met his demise.
Of course, mid fearbomb, his buddies show up - a 67 warrior, 80dk, and 80warrior. Argh! After the fear is over I take out the 67 warrior post-haste. I get the 80warrior down to 50% then in a courageous shout of honor, fall to the ground and die as they point and laugh.
Oh well, I guess it passes the time by while I wait for the WoW Gods to let us in the instances. But of course, I am cursed tonight - now my alt WoWs start crashing during the swim back! Same mpq, of course, since their symlink was pointing to the old one. I recreate the symlink and point it to the new and improved data directory and fire WoW back up and go on my merry swim.
I get back and the horde are still there trying to enter the instance. About 30 minutes later I see them get in, I rez, but one of them was still outside so I ran into Underbog instead to avoid being ganked.
I decide give Underbog a try. Hungarfen was amazingly easy, but Ghaz'an tore me a new hole. *sigh*
