5 Box Paladins (Heroic) Help Plz

So PvP has been a blast but I wanted to get back into PvE again.

My gear is still pretty much starter 2/5 Hateful and green/blue quest items /w enchants.

My Main is running as prot with 535+ Defense and 22K+ HP unbuffed.

My main issue I'm having is I'm not getting enough heals to stay up and if I stop and try to heal, I stop DPSing and normally get stuck. I haven't PvE since TBC when I was running (1) Prot Pali and (4) Ele Shamans and I never had to heal my pali because the DPS was so high and the heals from the totems kept him up through boss fights.

Any tips or if I need to continuing to PvP to get better gear before hitting heroics, let me know.

I think the general idea when playing 5x DPS+heal characters is you weave in a round-robin heal as part of your DPS rotation. That way, you never stop DPS but you're getting topped off with heals constantly.

But you can't switch targets in a castsequence, so how do you get it to heal MT while DPS targets?

You have to weave it in like Ugh said. An example would be

#showtooltip
/castsequence [yourdpstargettingschemehere] judgement X, crusader strike, divine storm,, crusader strike, judgement X,,
/cast [target=tank] flash of light


the extra commas allow the cast to go to the next line of the macro which is your heal spell which targets your tank. if you use focus in your macros you can do [target=focustargettarget] to make sure you always heal the person that is being targetted by the focustarget. if you just use assist you can use [target=targettarget]

Edit: messed up and forgot to mention your other pallies. Just use different comma's in different places to make sure it gets split up amongst your team. if you are a button masher you can add more commas in your dps sequence and/or your healing sequence to find out which works best so that you don't overheal if not needed.

The best thing I did at that gear level was to level jewelcrafting on my tank and bump his health up by about 4k by grabbing 2 of the crafted trinkets and some dragonseye gems. Since doing that ive gone from wiping 2-3 times on a new boss to 1 shotting pretty much everything.

I think the heroic defense cap is also 538 or something like that, i know raid defense cap is 540, that could be why your taking so much damage.

No. It's 5 points per level. 535 for heroics (82), 540 for raids (83).

Let me know if it doesn't make sense and I'll post my whole macro that I used in that setup.

Blizzard stopped the ability to use multipule casts within 1 macro. It will use the first spell and then error out.

So the example:

/castsequence [yourdpstargettingschemehere] judgement X, crusader strike, divine storm,, crusader strike, judgement X,,
/cast [target=tank] flash of light

Should not work.

As the first castsequence is used. The 2nd should never be used.

Back in the days before blizz macro fears.

I could do macros like:

/cast [target=focustarget] DPS Spell
/cast [target=focustarget] DPS Spell
/cast [target=focustarget] DPS Spell
/cast [target=focus] Heal Spell

Etc...

As long as a spell was on cooldown, it would use the next in the chain. But since the changes to the macro system, you could no longer do this.
