Am I understanding round robin correctly?

Playing EQ1. I want to send a keystroke to the other 5 chars in the group, one at a time. Is that what putting more than one step (ie: round robin) under Mapped Keys will do? For example:



When I pull a mob in & position it where I want it, I then hit the hot key (ctrl-alt-z in this case) I set for this mapped key. Under the mapped key, I have 5 steps. Each step sends a '2' to a specific char. I have the chars assigned to each step in a specific order. Step 1 sends to the cleric first, which triggers a macro that throws a HoT. Step 2 also sends a '2', but to the shammy, which triggers a macro to cast slow, send the pet & then throw a DoT. Subsequent steps send a '2' to different chars to cause them to do what they're supposed to do... nuke, dot etc. I have set that order on purpose... obviously I don't want the wiz to be chucking big nukes as soon as the mob gets to the group, and I want the shammy to get the mob slowed asap.



So is that how it's supposed to work? Is it throwing the '2' to each char in turn in the order I set up the steps? Or do I misunderstand & it's happening differently? It's not happening the way I envision it, and I'm trying to narrow down where my problem is... the way I've set it up in ISBoxer, or my macros in EQ1.

I don't think you are going to want to use the Round Robin feature for your standard attacks and debuffs.



I understand you don't want to send a big nuke on the initial attack, but I think you'd be better off setting up a few groups of keys for each class:



Button 3 = Main DPS spells/macro for all toons.

Button 4 = Main Debuffs spells/macro for all toons.

Button 5 = Main AoE spells/macro for all toons

etc. etc.

You can break the groups down even further to your liking/needs to get more specific actioins.

But the goal should be to keep them casting and not waiting on their turn to cast (via round robin).



Try to group all the spells so that when you press the 3 button, each toon casts the spell you want at the same time.
Then you'll only need to hit the button once.



Most of us have our heals set to other keys that aren't used by non-healing classes, this way the healer can aslo be free to do a little DPS.
Use a stop casting command (can't remember what it is in EQ1) to start your healing macro so you won't have to wait on a spell to finish if it's being cast.



Where round robin might be useful - If you have more than one healing class in your group, you could rotate out heals to reduce aggro gathered by one toon.

You will probably run into problems with round robin from fizzles and resists on the slow, then you would have to wait on the round robin to get back to the shaman to try again.

I'm justing getting started again in eq1 (4boxed manually for 5 yrs, then took a break for 5 yrs), and this is my first venture into IS/ISBoxer... can't imagine what I could've done back then with a tool like ISboxer.



My group is currently just VERY lowbie, while I learn how this all works & relearn the game. I see what you're saying about breaking up the classes into sub groups... I can see where that will probably be very important at higher levels. For now tho, I'm just trying to understand how the round robin concept works... or even if it does work with eq1 vs WoW. When I click the hotkey in question... it seems as tho some of the chars do what they're supposed to do, sometimes. Like sometimes one of the healers will heal, or one of the casters will nuke... or they'll fizzle, which is fine at these very low newbie levels... it's not like there's any real risk. It just doesn't seem to be consistent. And if I click it repeatedly, it seems like diff chars will sometimes work & sometimes not. Another thing that happens the first time I click it... it switches to the sixth window. I have the screen set up with the main screen to the left & six boxes down the right hand side... gotta love 28" monitors. ;)



So while this is not the ideal way to do this later on, I'm just trying to figure out how it's SUPPOSED to work, so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. The window switching thing confuses me.

Well, I went to seperate hotkeys for each char. Works as I envisioned. But I'm still at a loss as to what I'm doing wrong, or not grasping, when there's more than 1 step to a hotkey. Seems no matter what I try, when there's more than 1 step, it switches the window to a diff character.

Might be cool to start a thread with hotkey & macro ideas/tricks from those of us still playing eq1?



edit: I just realized that the char/window switching thing also happens what I send a command to an Action Target Group. Hmmm.

You might want to ask Lax in the help forum here or on his site.

He might also want you to join a chat session to respond more quickly to your problem.

I haven't used the round robin enough to know. I have all my keys set for 1 press 1 action on all toons.



The screen switching sounds like you might have a key bound that windowsnapper is using. You might check there to see.
