How about this for a Computer monitor

Two days ago I was in Office Depot and set out for clearance was a Olevia 242 T11 LCD TV. Price was 425. They stated it was a buyers remorse. So I bought it. Got it home and soon found out why they may have returned it, First it was stuck in Showroom mode. In this mode nothing works, like auto channel search, screen modes, etc. I went on the net and found out how to get it out of that mode and the thing worked like a champ. When I when to register it I found out something else, this TV must have been sitting somewhere in the store for more then 6 months. Reason was registration dates only went to 2008. I have sent Olevia an email requesting assistance with this matter.
But thats not the good part, the good part is that this tv has 2 HDMI ports on the back of it along with VGA as well. I was thinking of how awesome it would be to play Lotro or even WoW on a 42 in screen. Anyone ever play on a screen that big?

I am just about to hook up a 37" for my alts and will see how that works out :)

I used a 42" Westinghouse 1080P for a couple years as my main computer screen. For non-boxing it was great. About same resolution as my 24" 1920x1200 (1080p is 1920x1080) but blown up so I didn't squint as much trying to read crap on the screen. I use to run my media player as always on top and mde space in the UI so I could watch videos on the same screen as I was playing EQ1 on. Blowing a resolution that is pretty much perfect on my 24" screen to 42" proportions will make the images more blocky looking, but for me, it didn't look all that bad, but should point out it is no where near as sharp looking as my 24" screen is.

For boxing, this is a horrible idea. 42" is just too big to see your other monitors (unless you box completely different then how I do it). My 42" has 2 DVI's, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA and some other connectors. It will display any of the two inputs at one time. Doing so pretty much puts 2 17" screens on the 42" which was too small for me to make use of it in this manner. You do not choose how big the screens are and how they fill the overall 42" Displaying two 17" on the overall 42" screen wasted alot of screen space. You would be far better off just getting 2 actual 17" screens. It was a joy having a huge monitor for my main box. It did help me with reading on that screen alot since my eye sight isn't the greatest, but I can box much better now that I have put my 42" to the side and just use it as a high def tv and run 2x24" screens (ok, one of em is only a 22") and 4x17" (ok, actually 8x17") screens when I box. Helps me notice much sooner what is going on with my other boxes. When I was running the 42", all other screens were pretty much out of my sight unless I actually turned my head to look at em. This may sound like a small thing, but it is not.

Just saw the resolution on that olevia is 1366 x 768. On a 42" screen for computer use, it's going to be very blocky looking. 1920x1080 on a 42" was already noticably blocky to me and in my opinion, 1366x768 on a 42" screen is ok for a TV, but not for a computer screen. If you're gonna use an LCD/TV for computers, highly recommend it to be 1080P especially if it is 30" or bigger.

I'd agree that a big screen TV isn't optimal for multiboxing.

That being said, for everything else, it's pretty nice. I have a 32" Olevia 720p TV in my back room that's connects to a Mac Mini through my HT receiver. It took a little fiddling to get the settings right (playing with font and icon sizes so things were readable with my aging eyes from my lounge chair), but once it was set up, I'm loving it more and more every day.

I haven't tried any serious stuff on it...a little single boxing of EQ1, some photo/video processing, surfing the net, and playing with piano lessons in Garage Band, but for an all purpose computer that everyone can use (my non-techie girlfriend and her kids, ages 5-13), it's great. It'd probably be ok for certain types of games...just not stuff with a lot of text, like MMORPGs...provided it had the hardware specs to support it.

So for strictly multiboxing, I don't think you'd like it. As a general purpose monitor, in the right environment, you'll probably be hooked. Spend a lazy afternoon surfing the net or watching UTube videos from your favorite recliner, with your feet up, and you'll see what I mean!

the only issue with this TV is the resolution that you will be playing wow at (1366x768 ).
I have played wow on a 60" 1080P plasma and while it looks impressive, at the end of the day it was still limited to (1920x1080)
I would stick with a decent 24" or above monitor (if you can afford it)

I do use a 24in Acer and a 19in as a 2nd. I just put that up there to show this TV can be used as one. I play at those higher resolutions that the TV can't go. But I was just thinking how amuzing it would be to see my characters that big :) It also turned out in the email I got back that Olevia filed for bankruptcy. It was a 3rd party repairmen that responded and let me know that. So unfortunatly no warrenty on the TV. :(
