Calling any guitarists

Howdy,

I am looking into getting a teacher in the So Cal area (are any of you professional guitar teachers? lol) and am trying to do some research on equipment to find some nice beginner equipment that I can get my hands on. I currently have an old acoustic guitar my father gave me, but am more interested in getting into electric guitar ultimately. I will likely start lessons wtih the acoustic and then if everything is going well and I like the teacher, purchase the electric stuff.

I really like the look of schecter guitars and will probably grab one of them (they, from what I can tell, tend to get really good reviews).

I am looking for amp suggestions. I live in a very small space right now with my wife and son so the smaller the better. Also, (this might be standard but who knows) i need to be able to plug headphones in. Ive seen a few mentions of systems where you can essentially plug your guitar into your laptop (or generally through an intermediary which then plugs into a USB port on your computer) and am interested in the idea of that.

Ive seen some very small guitar amps before. Id check out Guitar Center, Sam Ash, or even MusiciansFriend.com for something. Dunno how they go as far a prices though (I'm a Drummer)

A nice starting amp would be from the 'cube' series, I have been playing for quite a few years now and know my stuff (fairly well lol). I don't teach, I don't know enough or what I do know well enough, to be doing so. But if you would like to talk more on the fourms I would be glad to put my input.

Amp: 20x Cube (larger or smaller)

Guitar:
Electric:
Fander Telecaster: Older sounding soft rock
Fender Strat: A good standard 'all around' sound
Ibanez: Metal / Hard Rock / Rock distortion
Acoustic:
Yamaha: I have been using this one forever, and I will stick by it ;)

edit: Schecter, I too have been hearing more and more about this brand and I might look into it here soon. I can't tell you much about it, but from what I hear, it's a good brand!
edit edit: A custom built Gibson would be nice if you had some cash to spend lol!

Schecter has some guitars starting at around 300 dollars and from what I can read many people are very impressed with the sound for a guitar of that price. Depending on other costs ill probably get one in the 300-400 range. Then when I discover that I am a hidden virtuoso (LOL) ill get a nicer one. Maybe.

You should check out the Yamaha Pacifica 112(V) and the Ibanez GRG 170
very good starter guitars, nice sound, manifold sound spectrum - great!
both are about ~200€ dont know the prices in the USA ;P

A good practice amp would be a Roland Microcube or a VOX DA-5.
I bought the VOX and i like it - great sound!

I have the Schecter C-1 in Black + a Line 6 Spider 3 amp. I have the 12inch spider which cost close to $200. They make a 8inch spider thats $99. They are very nice amps. I love how the schecter guitars look too. So far I am on my second month of lessons and love it.
