My mage needs your help

My shamans are consistantly at 1600dps in heroics and my mage is barely breaking 1300dps.

I am obviously doing something wrong. I know the least about the amge class as opposed to my other toons. I am more than willing to try out a different spec.

I spam the following macro during fights.

/castsequence reset=target Living Bomb, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt

I have found lots of terrific info on elemental shamans here but mage info is not as plentiful.

Any advice would be appreciated.

i always thought you stack scorch first. get the glyph and you only have to cast it once. i havent played my mage since the addition of frostfire bolts so i cant say about that. but since you specced scorch you might as well use it. im at work ill try and post more later :)

/castsequence adds your latency to your cast times, as it has to wait for a successful cast to flag back from the server. The simplest solution would be to write:

/castsequence Living Bomb,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
/cast Frostfire Bolt

It should cast Living Bomb once every 12 seconds, and cast Frostfire bolts before it comes up again. (I think bomb goes off after 12 seconds. If I'm wrong, adjust the number of commas by 5 per second in which ever direction I missed it by.)

You could theoretically do even better if you want to get in to /click functionality, but this should address your initial DPS issues.

Part of the issue you are having is scalability. I'm at work so I can't look at your armory page, but I would guess that you are not in great gear yet, correct? Mages generally start out low on the dps totem with subpar gear, but as their gear improves their dps rises very quickly. This is in part because spellpower has such a huge impact on all of your spells. The more your spellpower goes up, it will not only increase the amount your ffbolts are hitting for, but will also increase your ignites, and scales well with other talents as well. I have not gotten a chance to test out arcane since 3.08 but I hear very good things about it. You could try doing an arcane spec with a cast sequence something like arcane blast, arcane blast, arcane blast, arcane missles, arcane volley. I've never gotten the [nochanneled] command to work in a cast sequence macro though, so maybe someone else can help with this. The alternative rotation for arcane is very simple. Just alternate arcane blast, arcane volley. One down side to arcane may be that it does require a bit more micro b/c you pretty much have to pop evocate every 2 mins.

would probably work just as well. Just spam the hell out of it.

Is my gear really that bad?. It's badge, heroic, crafted epic gear.

Maybe I should try a different spec.
