Account ownership

Sure this is a fairly common question, but i'd just like some explination if possible. Because from I have found it isn't entirely clear. Currently I have two accounts both of which are in my fathers name. One is mine, one was my brothers who no longer plays. Both are also payed by my father with his credit card.

I am going to start multi boxing and am adding three more accounts. If the accounts are also put in my fathers name or mine if possible but paid for with my credit card, is that acceptable ? I can't find anything specifiaclly mentioning the form of payment

I wouldnt mention your brother...but if your dad were to get you the accounts, and they are in his name... that seems to fall under the minor child. You can definitely get the names changed to yours by the TOS under those circumstances.

Who pays for them means nothing. All that matters is that the registered name matches.

If that name is yours, or your fathers...well, they don't have robot drones coming to check your fingerprints. Matching is the requirement.

If you need assistance with a account-related question, you'd probably want to ask an official source. We can point you in the right direction, but I'd think it's unwise to ask an unofficial source for an official answer.

Personally, if you'd like to assure the safety of your account from account action, you'd want to familiarize yourself with the game rules (including the ToU and EULA), and clear up any gray areas by searching through the blue posts on the official forums, and asking any remaining questions directly to a GM or on the Customer Service Forums.

For the sake of semantics (as we're talking about Blizzard's rules), lets first remove the idea that the accounts are yours but in your father's name.

The accounts "belong" to your father in as much as they belong to anyone but it's important to distinguish this in terms of Blizzards rules.

As a minor, you're allowed to play on his account no problem. So if he sets up more accounts on the same terms you're allowed to use those accounts as well.

Unless something drastic has changed, there's no implications for you multiboxing with those additional accounts. You are a minor using your father's account - the number of accounts, or how they're utilised, doesn't change that.

Storm is right, however keep in mind that Blizzard doesn't KNOW you're a minor child... If they see multiple owner accounts all multiboxing from the same IP, clicking the same spells at exactly the same time, they are certainly within their rights to ban you for account sharing and let you sort it out to them after. It certainly can be a lengthy affair, since Account Administration email address is known to be bogged down in a weekly queue.

Several other members on these forums have gotten in a twist with a mistaken ban that was later reversed... Sometimes even getting re-banned later for the same thing. Persistence and patience is key -- if you're not willing to deal with that risk, then you might wish to minimize it as much as possible. That's really up to you. If you fall into that particular case you're well within your rights to play (for example) with one account in your father's name, and one account in yours.

Also, regarding an account in your brother's name -- note that the ToU lists that a parent/guardian is allowed ONE minor child to access that account. ONE. You AND your brother would equal TWO children.

The terms of service allow for your father to have exclusive use of the accounts.
At his option, he can allow a minor child to have exclusive access instead of him.

He has basically gone with one account per child, yourself and your brother.
That means he is not allowed to access the accounts himself, the same as you're not supposed to use your brothers account or him to use yours.
There's basically no way for Blizzard to know if you, your brother, or your father is using an account from the same consistent IP address.
So technically you won't be caught if all the accounts are in your fathers name, but it is against the terms of service.

I'd imagine, you could have both accounts transfered from your fathers name to your name, if he was willing.
I'm not sure the procedure, but minor children with accounts in their parents names.. do eventually become adults themselves.
Even if you were to change your address, if you maintained exclusive access to both accounts, it would look like the family had moved.
Still, I'd recommend getting them in your name if possible; if you have issues down the road, it will be easier to resolve yourself then needing to contact a parent.

Not entirely true. Quoting from the Terms of Use:

The and means that I can allow 1 minor child to access the account as well as myself. Since I have 5 accounts, and 4 kids, each is allowed to share one of the accounts with me, and still be legit with Blizz. Each of the children would still only be allowed to use one of the accounts tho. So if your brother is on the second account, you are not allowed to use it to 'box, according to the ToU.
