Nah, my money will be on the GTX 285. Not an SLI fan as no game I play benefits from it at all (EQ and FSX), so going quad is just unbelieably pointless. I'd say GTX 295 will be filled with unrealized potential. The main thing though is the die shrink and the faster clock speeds, which is why I'd go with the GTX 285, it will be the fastest single core card. If it comes in under $400, I will buy it. Not to mention these cards are very wattage hogs. Going SLI will get you a little better performance and probably double the wattage cost. GTX 285 is suppose to be 10% faster then the GTX 280 and use considerably less watts and run cooler.
i don't care much for any of these new cards at all. all i care about is like Sajuuk said:why should i pay $500 for a piece of hardware when i can get something almost as good for probably $100-$150 (9800 GTX+ if it hopefully drops a lot when this new card comes out). i can get 3 of them for less then what ONE of what these things will cost... and probably get better performance too. unless you HAVE to have the newest and greatest tech out there, go for something a little older that costs less and runs almost as good IMHO. still it looks sick.Quote:

If you don't think this video card is worth the money, then that's fine, but don't kid yourself into thinking a 9800 GTX is anywhere near "almost as good" because it's just not. You're talking about a 3x or more difference in performance which, in my book at least, is not even in the ballpark. Maybe if you strictly play wow, single-boxing, you can make an argument that the extra horsepower is wasted, but there are plenty of games out (and monitor resolutions) that can make use of that performance.
Of course it's going to be expensive, and not linearly more so than the lesser cards - what else is new? Such is the case when you want to own the best of ANYTHING. This card is not aimed at "bang for your buck" consumers.
the 9800 gtx+ performance is within 15-20% of the fastest graphix combination on the market now. that is pretty good for a card that only costs $150.
Nope, not at all the fastest. I would say the GTX295 is on par/ equal with the 4870x2. Even the MSRP is in direct competition with ATi's counterpart. Think of the 295 as x2 260 core(216)'s put together. You can clearly see this with the memory size, speed, & etc. With a month of drivers, it could be the fastest video card to date, but most including me at extremeoverclocking, hardforum, & xtremesystems.org feel it's "too little too late". 55nm cards are what most users are looking at (at least those who give a damn)! GTX285 looks very nice, at $400 -/+ :thumbsup:
Like many; us users win which whatever card we go with, but please don't go any lower than 4870/260(216). You'll see a nice improvement, not just w/multiboxing either.
