Kinda wasted my RAF.... or the story of an on again / off again boxer.
So, 2 and a half months ago I got myself all set up for some RAF madness. Started a few teams, got them mostly set up and going. Got my 5 shaman team to 20, then worked on my Priest/3 warlock team up to 50. Then I got my main into a new raiding guild... and it was everything I wanted.
- Lets step back a year.
When I hit 70 with my warrior, Haftonburger, not my first 70 but the first to level up fast for a specific purpose. I spec'd him prot, because I loved tanking. I was in a good leveling guild and we all hit 70 at about the same time, Dec - Jan, ran Kara over and over. By about June I was pretty much geared out, but I was MT, and great at it, and a very respected pug tank on the server. No upgrades available outside of 25 mans, which we couldn't get into because of limited guild numbers. So we kindof just fell into a doldrums, kept running kara, tried to go to ZA, I leveled alts, a pally tank, rogue. The good players started leaving for better guilds, or stopped playing, so we eventually couldn't even finish kara anymore, so by August, I was fed up and /gquit. Hafton was guildless for over a month, pugged a bit, but this is also when I really got into multiboxing.
Started with 3 shaman at first, it was fun, but when I tried to pvp, my comp just can't handle it, so it was nothing more than a leveling mechanic to make things easier. Then RAF. Suddenly all those alts you start and sortof want a 70 of, but don't want to level are very attainable. So I started over with 5 accounts - with the same crappy 5 year old Dell. I had only one goal, level, which my comp could do with some horrible framerates, then I'd have time to enjoy the xpac and christmas with a bunch of alts and have MB 60's on inactive accounts waiting to play when I can afford a better comp (which I'm gonna get after xmas). Hit 50 then the unthinkable happened.
I applied on a whim and got an inv to the #2 horde raid guild on the server. I didn't log back in on my team for a few weeks - I was busy getting things ready to raid. Within weeks, I went from pugging Kara to full-on Black Temple clears, something I thought I'd never get to be a part of. I'm not MT, but I'm having a ball. Things settle down, I still have to work hard to raid SWP, but eventually I get the free time to fit in a few levels on my team. Then 3.02 hits, and everything falls apart. It was mindblowing. I played a warrior forever and suddenly I had to relearn everything. My alts all had to be relearned as well. I couldn't just hop on the pally or druid to tank or dps or heal because I had to work at relearning them too. Resetting up the teams and reworking addons had to wait. I spent a few hours here and there where I could, but my heart wasn't in it, my main toons had to take priority.
So here I am, RAF expires on the 20th, but with the xpac coming out in only a few days, Am I gonna play them till the 20th? no. Main toons take priority, and the guild will expect me to rush to 80 with them so I can participate in raids right away. My gear is fantastic, 4/8 T6 and equiv, so it's gonna be easy. But it's just a lingering sinking feeling - I wasted it. I was thinking I could easily level 3-4 teams, gift a crapton of levels and make instant 60's all over the place, but I'm trying to muster the motivation to get my first RAF team just the last few levels to 60 just so I can gift the levels before they go away.
What does the near future hold? not much for multiboxing unfortunately. I'll probably keep them going for a little bit, trying to squeeze in a few levels till I get the mounts (why the hell not?) and gift as much as possible and then I'll most likely cancel their subs so I can focus on wrath content on solo toons. I might keep one to dual box alts, and to add in more daily money, but for the begining of Wrath, I won't be 5 boxing. Will I again someday? possibly. I need a better computer badly, even raiding a single toon with all the spell detail turned way down, I have horible fps, so that's not even negotiable anymore. And now that I won't spend most of the expantion leveling and gearing out a main toon, like I did with BC, I'll have more time on my hands for alts and teams, but I doubt I'll have that kind of free time till spring.
I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who posts on this site. It's been a lot of fun and I learned an amazing amount here. If this site didn't exist, I'd never have taken on such an endeavor. Someday, I'll be back and reading and posting myself, but unfortunately, multiboxing will have to take a break for me. Later all.
