Keyclone, FTL & Macro Placement help please !

Alright, I have been reading for a few days now since I got back from deployment, and tonight I started to sit down with my excell spread sheet for macros and keybings and start mapping this all out and getting ready to enter it into keyclone, along with setting up my UI's macros ect as well. So I have a few more questions.

Ok so the question first the way I am reading and understanding this, if I have Pass hotstring only, the useage of modifers should be no issue with keymaps, but.. I am limited to only passing keys that have been associated with a keymap. Correct?
- Would overiding something like DNP, enable me to pass any characters w/o regard to the the "pass strings only"? like if I wanted to spam /dance or something ? Or am I locked out of this by the Pass Hotstrings only checkbox ?
- If I ran with Pass strings only, I am assuming that I would need to macro global spells (totem spam ect) by like Key(F1) String (Totemspam) To Everyone to do that for all.

If the first is incorrect, It is my understanding that I can use shift modifiers as long as I define a keymap using that modifier and assign it to a diffferent macro button.
IE: 2 = Lighting bolt bound to ], shift+2 CL bound to [ ?

Second: If I have spells that would be globaly cast, have no targeting requirements ie totems, fire elementals, Fire nova, And then Selected Healing (based off macro like /target player /cast lhw) theres really no reason to keymap any of those keys right? Just relying on keyclone passing those keys globaly, should be sufficient since I have no targeting needed. ( I probably answered my own question, but my head is all jumbled and im really not sure.. dont wanna miss anything you know?)


Next if anyone happens to be using X-keys Pro, has this FTL system changed any of your keysetups ? How has it affected your mappings ect, and usage of keys. Im still not home from my deployment so I havnt even seen the xkeys pro I ordered almost 5 months ago =(.. =( .. I am setting up with the layout that Deceased used, it seems reasonable it will be a slight change to my current playstyle with totems as ive had like 14 totems keys. But I will what I can do and thats probably what I will use my x-keys for to lay down different totems ect.

Need a suggestion here as well: I am going to use 4 totem hotkeys F1- F4: F1 I plan to be a cast sequence of all 4 types of totems, F2 - Grounding totem for all, F4- Stoneclaw totem.
Im not sure what to put in F3. I thought about a cast sequence of earthbinds for running away, any thoughts to what should go in those 4 totem slots? Im most likely going to replace F4 with Tremor Totems, on cast sequence.

Im starting to run low on keys for this laptop lol, I think alot will be freed up by the xkeys letting me a use a few shift modifiers and stuff we will see: ive included a little bit of how im organizing my keys.

Wondering if this is the wrong place for all of this, i havnt even gotten any rtfm replys or anything lol =(...
Im still working hard on this, for about the past 5 hours now !!! I think I got it, im still just really not sure if its going to work... been entering keymaps for a good long time now trying to plan it all out.

My understanding on the keymap is that it will pass hotstrings only when you hit the base key. So you can't have a "2" and "shift 2" keymapped, I think. I was going to use the keymaps for those things that require targeting but for things like totems and thunderstorm I was going to use a global and castsequences where required.

I have an xkeys but I haven't started to integrate it into the new setup. I am going to try it out on the g15 first and see if that is comfortable. If the G15 is not feasible then I will redo the xkeys for this setup. It needs redone anyway because of totem and paly changes.

I think the biggest obstacle for this setup is making sure you don't overlap any key usage between the key map and normal passed combos. I plan on using multiple mods per key for the globals (i.e. general totems) as that is what I did before and it worked fine. I used an excel layout of the xkeys, that I made myself, printed out a few copies and started penciling in key combos. There are enough normal combos to fill out both layers on the pro if you want to. :D Since you have a laptop you can make good use of all the NUMPAD characters. That is 15 keys (not counting enter and numlock).

I will get to do my own extensive testing starting in about 8 hours from this post. Maybe I will move all the functions to the xkeys for playing the paly and shamans. Then when the 5th shaman is ready I can play them all on a standard keyboard.

Well after many hours of reading and typing, I finnaly got to log in and put the macros down on my shaman.

I was successfull in getting the 3 little cows to follow each other, although the targeting seemed a little shaky. The following macro seemed to not work sufficiently, so I had to modify it

nomod . target=target didn't work for me, it kept targeting one of the random alts, not really sure why ...disregard i believe its because keyclone was sending out the other commands to the windows. And I have that tilde key as the macro on both, so I will take that as a lesson learned on macroing the key while hostrings are broadcasting modifiers. Well so far so good, taking a break now.
I could still use a little clarification on the questions from my first post, if anyone can help its much appreciated.

Ah, F'n nuke here. lol. I have had many hours of sitting in control doing tracking parties. :)

It may help you if you did a seperate target macro to fit it all in. Drag the macro to an action button then put a "/click button name" in your macro. I did this with my testing of follow and it worked great. In the long post that is stickied in the general section there is more info on how to do it. There is also a way to get the button names also.

Here is the section about the /click macro:

"What I mentioned doing briefly was having the following macro by itself on some button,

/target [mod:ctrl,mod:shift,nomod:alt,target=ToonA][mod:ctrl,mod:alt,nomod:shift,target=ToonB][mod:alt,mod:shift,nomod:ctrl,target=ToonC][mod:ctrl,mod:alt,mod:shift,target=ToonD][mod:ctrl,nomod:alt,nomod:shift,target=ToonE]

Then each ability macro would use a /click command as the first line to call that macro. This works with the default blizz system as well as most addons."

To find a button name put the following on your first hotbar and execute while hovering over a button.
"use this macro: /print GetMouseFocus():GetName() the macaroon buttons will have their own ids. Should come out to something like MacaroonButtonX "

When you place your target macro on that button it can be run by using "/click buttonname" . This works on all the bar addons also.

Using DNP override allows everything to pass, just make sure you open a chat line first thing or there could be undesirable results. This one I have tested.
