These days, I think it's arcane with a tad of fire. I leveled a solo as frost once - it was amusing, but perhaps not the most efficient path.
Priest is there to keep the mages up, might as well just go holy.
Arcane and Holy...
Reasons?
Because the AOE damage from both Arcane Explosion and Holy Nova = great.
I leveled really fast with 4 Mages and a Priest.
And with the healing tree, I at some point stopped a little after I got the Talent HN, but I guess they changed that now and its a vendor spell. So you might could get some decent healing talents, then jump over to Dis for the longevity?
The reason for Arcane is because of the mana saving talents/crit talents/ all around, a decent tree. And since the only thing you are going to be doing is running into a mass of mobs and AOE the piss out of everything. Just cast Frost armor/Power Word: Shield on the Priest, and run a muck!
Oh, and Blizzard is major lol these days. Just hard to multibox. But if you have a good Keyclone Maximizer setup or are running multiple hardware mice...well, the damage & control & frostbite procs are more than worth it IF you can hack the control issue. Effing target circles.
I leveled mine fire/arcane. Fire first, so that single-target DPS was still great. Arcane later when I had enough points to get both Pyroblast/Blastwave and Improved Arcane Explosion. Problem with speccing straight for arcane up front, as I see it, is that you lack a lot of the single-target DPS or control. If you're gonna quest level, that won't do you much good. If you're just gonna AoE grind level, then spec whatever makes you happy as it's really hard to spec wrong for AoE as a mage.
You still get scads of control compared to most things. Round-robined Polymorphs and Ice Novae, for starters. Arcane also has ways to reduce mana downtime, which is helpful. A diversion for imp FB (either) could still be a good idea. Possibly World in Flames. Then give ONE of them imp scorch for lolcrit debuffs.
At that low of a level it dosent really matter what yeh pick since 5 dd spells one shots just about everything unless yer fight something to high of a level :P
with frostbite X 4 yer just about guarantied to freeze em then with shatter it gets ugly :P
