Possible to move macros between generic and character specific? Also, how do I get more macro slots?

So I noticed yesterday that all the macros I've created for my clones are in the Generic section, and they should be in the character specific, since 90% of them are shaman specific. Is there any easy way to move these to the character specific section?

Also, is it possible to get more macros than the two tabs have available? I've already used all the generics on my clones and about 5 of the character specific and I have a good 5-10 more I'll need to create soon, probably 15-20 eventually, and I'll run out of macros! Help!

You can put your cursor inside the general macro that you want to copy and push CTRL-A, that selects all the text. Then go into the char macro text area and push CTRL-V, that is paste. Or you can just highlight the text you want to copy and push CTRL-C and then CTRL-V to paste.

I use about 3-5 macros total. Some are extras, but not a lot.
Attack:

Heal:
/castsequence [target=focus-target-target] reset=15 Lesser Healing Wave, , , , Lesser Healing Wave
Misc:
/castsequence [target=focus-target] reset=7 Earth Shock, , , , , , ,
Totems:

Others are just multiples of totems, so I just put the totems in the slots--no macro needed (all searing totems, mana/healing totems, etc).

So with just a few macros you can do almost everything you can do. Some extras are Chain lightning and chain heal off the focus-target-target and focus-target respectively. Still about 8 total. So my suggestion is to condense macros by using [combat] and target='s.

I prefer to keep my macro count to a minimum as well, but if you really want more then you will need to use an addon of some kind. I use TrinityBars2, but some find it a bit difficult. There is one called Super Duper Macro that seems to look good, but it is still under development. I've also heard that BindPad will also support more macros, but I have not used it.

Er... I have way more than that that are not covered by your guide...

First of all I have a much needed accept all macro to accept quest escorts and other things like trade
I have a special macro for heal focustarget if friendly or focus if not
I have another macro to only make 2 of my guys /stopcasting and heal focus or focustarget
I have an actual focus macro
I have macros for dancing with the focus target
laughing at the focus target
using sequence earth shock on the focus target
all characters using flameshock on the focustarget (needed for earth elementals, etc)
all characters using earth shock with main using frost shock on the focus target
I have a macro for mounting up vs ghost wolf vs flying
I have a macro for each character ressing the next in line
I have a macro for lightning bolt or chain lightning
I have a macro for some of my totems to condense them into less buttons (Ie: ctrl+f = fire nova, shift+f = magma, alt+f = searing, ctrl+alt+f = totem of wrath, all in one macro)

I am not willing to get rid of or condense any of these as they all necessitate the way I play my shamans and help with anything from PvP to questing. How you get by with only 3-5 macros boggles my mind...a lot of the things that take me seconds seems like it would take you a long time without extra macros ?(

Yep, I suck and I can't play at all. I can't do any of the things you can. I have a focus macro, but it is in the main macros. Every one of my main and alts use the same main macros. 1 for accept and 1 for focus. Holy dang, 2 macros in general, not char.
1 for heal a target, 1 for chain heal
1 for lightning bolt, 1 for chain lightning
1 for shocks, 1 for earthshock
1 for attack/weapon buff, 1 for totems

You need a macro for res? You can't be in combat, so you can't need to hurry. You really can't click a button every (how often do your guys die?) 3-6 hours?

Fine you can macro dancing or prancing or whatever you want to do, but that can be a general macro, not a char one. I use HotKeyNet and it lets me type in a command, so I just push my hotkey for the command (ctrl-home) and it opens up a command line that I can type in ANYTHING I want and all the chars type it also. So I can push CTRL-Home and then type /dance, boom, all dancing. I can push CTRL-Home and type /camp, boom, all logged out. CTRL-Home, /exit, all WOWs gone. I wouldn't want to do a macro for every emote that I would want them all to do. Just seems wasteful.

Macro for mounting/wolf/fly? Sure I guess, never had a need to do more than mount. Guess I didn't care if people ran from me and had to run them down in wolf so I could prove I was amazing. I just use my mount on a hotbar and then push a button.

I don't use macros for spells that I just cast the normal spell. I just put my shocks/totems/etc on a bar and map a key to it. One char has different shocks/totems/etc in the same place, so one push and you get all the chars to cast whatever spell you wanted. No macros needed. Maybe I use 12 keybinds, but I use about 8 macros and that seems WAY less than the 16 they give you. Do whatever works for you, some people were just offering ideas on how deal with only 16 macros.

I haven't tried this myself but should work for moving macros from general to character specific.

1) Browse to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<accountname>

2) Copy macros-cache.txt

3) Browse to your characters folder ie C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<accountname>\<servername>\<c haractername>

4) Rename the macros-cache.txt in this folder to have backup

5) Paste your other macros-cache.txt into character folder

In theory that should work. I noticed I don't actually have any general macros so I may have got the filenames wrong but worth a try.

I understand that but I didn't ask how to get by with <16 macros, I already know I need more than that, I just needed to know how to move macros or get additional ones...it sounds to me like you are on a PvE server... if I didn't use macros to condense some of my commands, I'd have every single CTMod hotbar (9 total plus the original) filled up by now. I don't like that much clutter on my screen so I prefer to condense multiple commands into macros so I only have to have 1 button for them.

There are plenty of reasons to use ghost wolf, chasing down someone is only 1..you may need to run away while still in combat, or move from objective point to objective point while still considered in combat, etc, and I'd prefer not to have to have a different hotkey button for using a flying mount in outland vs a land mount in azeroth/bgs, etc.

Bottom line is having all the extra macros saves time, and isn't that half the point of all the tweaks you can do in multiboxing anyway? If I didn't have all the macros and added an extra 10 seconds here, 15 seconds there, etc, I probably wouldn't even multibox because it would just take too much time.

I appreciate honest help I really do, but being in the computer industry, it always tweaks me when someone tries to fix my problem by suggesting a totally different method without understanding why I'm doing what I'm doing in the first place (happens a lot in the computer industry).

Edit: Think I'll try trinity bars and see how I like that.

Macro for resurrection is more then helpful in PvP, when you might need to quickly resurrection a single dead, and get back in.
