Instance Grind guide (Where & When)

I get most of my experience & cash AOE Grinding elite mobs in instances. I start when the mobs I will be facing are a couple levels higher than me (Orange, Not Red, Red conned elites will wipe you) & then just increase the pull size as I level.

I do the regular quests when I want to PVP, or in between instances for a change of scenery.

This was written from the perspective of 1priest & 4 mages Horde side on a PVP Server. All Mages are Full Arcane spec'ed for the resist reducing talents & because I am going AP>POM>Pyro at higher lvls.


Where, When, & Notes:

1-17 Just AOE grind camps, Fireball-Fireblast, or do easy non collection type quests.

17-21Wailing Caverns
Druids sleep, & casting is annoying but manageable. Bosses are easy Here.

22-24 until RFK just do Quests & regular mobs.

RFK (This is where AOE starts to be OVERPOWERED in a good way)
24-28ish (I left at 28 but mobs were Green by then)

Blackfathom Depths: I did this a little bit but I didn't really care for it. maybe others have more experiance here.

Scarlet Monastery:
SM Graveyard Side (28-31),SM Library(32-35), SM Cath (35-40)

SM is where you get 3 solid pieces of Loot: Illusionary Rod, Whitemane's chapeau & the Triune Amulet.

There is also the armory, but for me, it was just easier to head to the Cathedral since that is where 2 loot pieces come from.

38-41 RFD just AOE to the Coldbringer for your "ROBES OF THE LICH" & reset. I did this run until my eyes bled. Good XP.

40-43 Uldaman (Dont AOE the silencing bats, Other than those, this place is good) I personally didnt even try the final events. I just AOE'ed the mobs.

43-47 Zul Farak in Tanaris. Totems & casters that poly you are annoying, but not too bad. Do the grave room with the witch doctor for the most AOE xp. The AOE event with sgt bligh is obviously easy & not horrible XP but I found it wasted a bit of time. Easier to just AOE the trolls & zombies.

48 DON'T FORGET TO DO HINTERLANDS QUESTS, ALMOST NO "COLLECTION QUESTS" & TONS OF KILL QUESTS. I have been playing since before this town existed & almost forgot to go there.


48-53 Sunken Temple. This place is made for AOE, it ROCKS. I didn't mess with the bosses, Just do the dragon level, & the Troll part with the mini bosses and reset. Fastest levels I made.

51-?? BRD, very nice for AOE as well. Just got in here & am doing 2 packs of elites per pull. Great source of Runecloth.

I am 51 now, & looking for feedback on the higher instances.
So far I have to say its a solid way to get XP & gear.

so how exactly do you "AOE grind" while 5 boxing when you need to physically click the target to lay down a blizzard or whatnot? Do you just run in there and arcane explosion? That actually kills elites without going OOM?

You got it, just run in & go to town with Arcane explosion.

1. PWS/Renew Priest (Main)

2. Priest Runs in & grabs attention of 3-7 mobs depending on the layout of the rooom. Silence any casters, run on top of any "Shooters". Use corners to "LOS" them to you.
(Aggro & attention is on the priest)

3. Re-shield/renew Priest. Frost nova mobs in place.
(All 5 of your guys should be in a tight group with the mobs beating on the priest)

4. AE Till the mobs drop, usually 5-7 casts. The priest spams prayer of healing.
(Aggro Ping Pongs across most of the mages usually AOE heals can handle this, occasionally 1 gets targeted, if so, just PWS & continue)

If things look tough, you can Frost nova, & move a bit, but I generally dont have to.

The only time I run oom, is if runing mobs resist a Frost nova & pull additional mobs. then I just hit My Mana Potion & Evocate button, & kill the adds too.

You don't run OOM killing Mostly Yellow conned elites if you group them up properly, assuming you have somewhat reasonable "Of the Eagle" gear. It doesnt have to be anything fancy.

Overall it got me to 51 without too much trouble.

re: using blizzard or other mouse-targeted spells

if you are using keyclone to coordinate your clones, and synergy to mouse between systems, use the built-in maximizer and put 4 of your clones in quad screen then...

have your cameras all facing the same way

when you cast blizzard, with a single key press, click the target with your main... then mouse over and click-target each clone. might be 5 clicks instead of 1, but the effect would be nice.

so keyclone, you mean do that by just doing it really quick with each toon with 4 on 1 monitor?

I especially like the 'minimum' level requirment as I'm using a Mage OR Prot Pally to AoE Grind up my team of four to catch the main Latency.

If I have a lvl 30 Pally, and 5 lvl 15's (I want to eventually ditch one of the 15's once they catch the pally for my final grouping), do you think it'd be worth it to have the Pally start tanking deadmines for them at lvl 18, or should I just wait for them to catch up? I'm just wondering what the loss of XP would be.

Dead mines starts at 10, get in there and get cracking... providing of course you can solo it at 35. : )

Currently leveling 4 shamans with a felguard 70 lock

Started with deadmines and stockades then went on to Blackfathom depths until I could take them to Scarlet Monastery. I basically take them to the highest instance they can get in for their level. This link will tell you the minimum level you need to be per instance. I recommend always going to the highest one...like in SM, I only did cathedral as the elites were higher level = more XP

Once they all reached 35 and got each a copy of all the blues from bosses I took them to uldaman and will keep them there until level 41, then it will be Maraudon.
