Hey, guys.

I'm gonna get started with a 5box shammy crew.
I tried, just for testing, a 3 shammy on my pc with the basic macro's follow/assist and keyclone. And it realy blowed new life into WOW, for me...
So I'm gonna go for the 5 team set up on one pc

Current setup:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual
Core Processor 4600+
3 gig DDR
Radeon X1950 series (dual video out)
2x 22" screens
7200rpm HD

With this setup I can run 3 toons (only got 3 accounts for the moment) with no probs.
But my G15 performance says: CPU running 98% all the time and Ram stands on 65% allt the time

So I wanna get a desend upgrade for dual boxing with no probs.

This is what I got in mind:
Intel Core2 Quad Q9450
Geforce GTX 280
8gig DDR

Any advice on current setup?
Also thinking about the ATI HD 4870 video card.

I have the ati 4870 and I am liking it. I am an nvidia fan but the ati was cheap and packs a nice punch.

I 5 box on a quad core.

You'll need a Mobo upgrade as well.

I´m just about to order one as part of my new rig having originally been thinking of the boxing standard 8800GTS 512

Can I trouble you to post what your full rig is please and what kind of performance you´re getting? Would be handy to know my expectations.

Thanks

I've got a 4850 and am more then happy with it :) It kicks ass. so a 4870 can only be worth it ^^

The only word of warning I would have is about temperatures.. my 4850 (from gigabyte) ran at 81C idle.. I didn't dare testing it at full load :S I have read that It is acctually expected to run as hot as that! :S so I got myself a new cooler ('http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr03gt/product_vga_cooler_hr03gt.htm') and it runs at 60C idle now.. and around 90-95C when under full load.. to be fair that was in our recent heat wave and with all case fans set to minimum, and my PC case in a corner under my desk with the least amount of possible ventialtion.. so I expect it to run a lot cooler over the next few months (it's brand new too ^^ so my thermal paste application needs to get worn in)

I don't know why they are running that high, but just don't freak out when you see the temps ^^ I've heard nVidia's cards run at around 45-50C idle under their stock coolers, so they may be stretched further when OCing imo.
But I hear the 4870s are running cooler then the 4850s so you may be ok :)

Also to use 8gb of ram u need 64bit OS...and a game that supports x64bit. WoW is not one of them. But DDR2 is really cheap, why not just get 8gb...

Quad core processors are great for boxing with Keyclone, because you can manually balance your processing loads. The Q9450 is becoming affordable, and the gx280 would pwn any video setting.

Im still reading up on both videocards, also the HD 4870x2 is comming out in august. one videocard with 2 HD4870's on 8)
I think price will be around the 280x...
I'm gonna run it over with my friend who will do the upgrade, see what he thinks.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Today I'm gonna try the 5 accounts on my current pc, see how he reacts on it :pinch:

Thanks Deceased although I´m finding it hard to pick between the 4870 or the 260 at the moment.

Comparisons I´ve seen on the net seem to indicate that in some cases the 4870 beats the 260 and sometimes vice-versa.

That´s understandable obviously, different games put different loads on different components but do you or anyone else have any experience with the 260 multiboxing with WoW?

(lol sorry to derail the thread slightly)

2/4 gb limit on a 32bit app doesn't matter much when you're running 5 copies ;)

Unless they changed the emulation in SP1, both of the above comments are inaccurate....

He will put it all together,You could probablly do it yourself, its remarkably easy to do - I started building my familys computers at around 13. Learnt by taking my computer apart one day when i was bored :P
