I've gone from friendly to exalted trying to farm this for all 5 shamans...and has not appeared ONCE in the damn cache of the legion! INSANE!!!!!! Does this thing still even exist in the loot table zomg?!?!

Oh man.. I feel for you. I got all 5 of mine in 9 runs. No joke. The first 3 times I ran it - it dropped 3 times in a row. It's really just luck.

Yea blizzard drop rate is annoying some people do not comprend but it works like this

Took me 32 runs to get all five (on normal), but it does drop. Are you sure you're looting the cache and not some boss? :P

Btw, assuming drop chance if 15%, the chance of not getting one in 25 runs is like 1.7%

Assuming there's a 20% dropchance, the chance of not getting one in 25 runs is in the 0.75 pct area - or in other words very rare but also (unfortunately) possible.

I'm not sure what you mean by "that's not the way it works" - there's been a lot of conspiracy theories of drop chance being based on class composition in the group, level of equipped items etc etc, but there is really no evidence of this. Basically theres a set chance of the item dropping each instance - it does not depend on class/gear/faction/race/etc, just on chance. The chance of not getting the totem in any given run is 80% (or 85%) and the chance of not getting the totem in 25 runs in a row is very very slim, but it's a possibility (a 0.75 pct one, but never the less a possibility).

The number 25 I just grabbed from thin air (one guy mentioned 23 runs. The original poster didn't mention a number, but I'm assuming it's more than 25 since I took 32 runs and still wasn't exalted in spite of having done a good deal of sha'tar quests before the runs. The exact number isn't really important - I was simply trying to establish that while the chance of not getting one in x amount of runs (25 being the random choice) was very small it was still an possibility.

I did 3 more runs this morning before I went to work, I keep getting those damn cloth robes, cloth shoulders, or the friggin boots. I've seen the cloak twice...

I started at about half way through friendly and soon as I hit exalted I threw my hands up and thought WTF?! All I do is kill the 2 mini-bosses and the 1st boss, then open the cache, I stopped keeping track of how many runs I've already done lol.

And I will continue to run mech up to the cache until I DO get all 5 needed lol. On the plus side I've built up a ridiculous amount of enchanting mats.

I too went from Friendly to Exalted and I've only had it drop twice for me. I've given up trying to farm for it now.

I tried farming for it, just killing all the trash necessary (and the first boss), zone out, reset, rinse & repeat.

Unlucky. I farmed 5 for me, and only went to half honored/revered, missing 6k to revered.
The first 4 totems dropped in my first 6 runs.
The last totem dropped in the following 10 runs.

all items are supposed to have almost the same drop chance of 15% or so. I must have run this 30-40 times and had 12 pairs of pants,12 cloaks but only 5 totems.

now that I don't need it anymore it's dropped at least 3 times, which is the sum total of times I've gone there since I burned myself out on that instance.
and it won't let you loot a second totem of the void, says you already have one and can't carry anymore of them.

I have to say i really feel for you. I must say though, that with all the runs I've done with my main (normals & heroics) i can't remember seeing this totem. Ever. Good luck gathering the remaining 4!

I got my 5th tonight, so no more farming Mech for me :thumbsup:

Didn't see any for the first ten or so runs, then five dropped over the next 12 runs.

As for drop rates...... 15% means it could fail to drop 85 million times in a row, and then drop the next 15 million times. That's still 15% and it's within the realms of possibility. That's the joy of probability.
