View Full Version : Dell XPS M1730 8700M GT 512MB folks - dual monitors?
I'm 5-boxing on my M1730 and the screen is just way too small for 5 on Keyclone Maximizer -- 3 are at 640x480 and I cannot tell the difference between Pèw and Péw. One DE's, the other does not, loot gets wasted -- not to mention my eyes. XD
Do any of you run an external LCD off of your laptop? And if you do, do you just disable the laptop display, or run two displays? Is there a hit to your FPS?

i don't exactly know what kind of comp you are dealing with here but chances are, you are going to take some sort of hit using dual monitors...
i'm also not sure if it's prossible to "disable" the laptop's screen but you can try... if I were you though, i would just use the dual-screens cause you can spread the screens out or even use one monitor for you main char
i got the M1730 as well...i sometimes use a 26" LCD HD tv monitor for 2nd screen.
Run the main on that or even two side by side. Use the maximizer on keyclone to bring the edges in on the 2nd screen. I have done 5 on my dual monitors. split 4 on the 26" and the main on the 17" screen. Whatever you do it can be done with your M 1730.
good luck

Hi, does anyone know how to run 2 external LCD's from my XPS M1730?
Had it delivered last week with 6 hardware faults! Dell eventually agreed (after 11 phonecalls) to send a new one. I was told by 2 sales guys that it came with an adapter as standard to allow me to use 2 external monitors (as an extended desktop, not clones). When it turned up - nothing!
Also, after 8 phonecalls to sales, parts, escalation team and technical support, nobody seems to know how or where to get the adapters to achieve the following:-
a) How to run 2 external monitors (maybe through s-video out port but surely this is not digital?)
b) Where i can get the dongle mentioned in the specs that allows S-video - component, composite and S/PDIF
c) Whether if I buy a DVI - HDMI connector, if it carries audio as well? I know HDMI does normally but audio is not carried by a DVI port?!
Help needed!
Thanks.
