View Full Version : [WoW] Dual Logging advise?

I don't really have 2 systems to put together at the moment so I'm more looking at dual logging then boxing. Wondering if there are any applications that work for dual boxing that would work for logging as well.

What I basically have in mind is just to run both games in window mode, but I wonder if there are macros that can cut down the amount of time I'm switching between windows.

I'm looking for help on things like
--grabbing a quest on 1 toon and getting it automatically to the other.
--looting on both characters (I'll just set master loot if it becomes a big deal)
-- misc other things that are just somewhat bothersome to go between 2 toons.

My specs
Intel Core2 Duo 2.4ghz
2 gigs RAM
512 meg video card GeForce 7600
Logitech G15 keyboard
Fang gamepad
19inch viewsonic CRT monitor

I have glanced at programs like Synergy and SolidIce KeyClone. I'm not too sure if they're good for my purposes or not right off.

Sorry if I sound like a complete noob here. Just trying to get an idea of the quickest and best direction to go.

I sorta have a feeling I'm just going to be having 1 toon dragged behind another and "solo" quest while the other gets credit for kill counts and such. I just want to see how far off I am or if there's more I could do that I haven't thought of.

KeyClone and AHK would both work fine for that setup. There are macros in the UI and Macro forum to accept quests/resses/group invites/etc on the second account. Looting you'll have to do manually.

What's "Dual Logging" btw?

Dual logging is actually the core of the above post. :)

Dual boxing is 2 accounts 2 computers 2 monitors 1 control (keyboard, mouse, etc..) right?

Dual logging is 1 computer (and single devices), 2 accounts. Usually alt-tabbing or something else like that.

So instead of cloning keys across 2 different computers, I really need it to cross 2 different applications of the same software (in this instance, WoW - one being the active window, one not).

Edit:
On a side note, I'm guessing I didn't glance hard enough at Keyclone.

above: 5 WoW, 1 machine... 1 keyclone

Guess I really should learn to read it all up front. Just intimidating myself with thinking there's much more to deal with then I thought.

Ah, I always just thought of "Dual Boxing" as playing two accounts at once, with 1 or 2 computers being irrelevant (since in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really make much of a difference where the second account is being run from.)

KeyClone sounds like exactly what you want. AHK can do the same for free, but KeyClone is supposed to be far easier to get set up.

That's my problem too, I'm intimated by all the information. :)

This weekend I plan to get keyclone and play around with two accounts on one computer, and maybe get a free trial for a 3rd and see how that goes.

we already had this discussion...

multi-boxing is multiboxing whether on one computer or ten.

yes dual-boxing is more specific as it is only 2 accounts but can be on one or two computers (I don't think anyone with 2 or more clones considers it dual-boxing but I could be wrong)

dual-logging however is used by some outside this forum but very little here... we don't tend to make the distinction.

Sorry to necro this (not that it's ancient).

I guess in my mindset that how can it be multi-boxing if it's one 1 computer (one box)? :) If the distinction isn't a big deal here, then great, saves me from having to double everything up and over explain what I'm trying to do.

Anyway, for a heads up. Keyclone does seem to be working great to what I'm doing here. :) Only got to play with it for a little last night before I had to do a raid, but it really felt very straight forward.

great to hear perenor... i do what i can to make your lives easier. if you or anyone using keyclone has any suggestions, i'm always listening. drop me a PM here or email me (keyclone at solidice dot com)... you could call, but weekends during football season are going to be a bit rough to reach me ;)

and for the record... multiple logins on a single computer would be called multi-instance... when you involve more then one machine, multi-boxing. but as a community, i think the term everyone settled on was 'multi-boxing' since a person can shift from one box to multiple and back. (besides... it's best to use just one term anyhow)
