View Full Version : New shaman talents discussion!
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html
Few points of discussion:
1) Elemental Oath: Your spell critical strikes grant your party "ELEMENTAL OATH" which reduces their mana cost by 2% and increases crit damage by 2% (stacks up to 3 times)
I doubt this buff will stack (i.e. from multiple shamans), although there is always a chance. Definitely worth it to take the talent on at least 1 of your shamans though!
2) Thunderstorm: Put this ability on round robin, i'm guessing this ability will be a godsend for instancing with pure-shaman groups with no "tank", if you keep knocking melee mobs back they will never be able to hit you! I run a "trinity" group so I will probably just use it in pvp. (and maybe to regen mana)
3) Paralysis: I wasn't expecting this bit of awesomeness! a 15% chance to slow the opponent per shaman per lightning bolt, you end up with about 50% chance to snare with 4 shamans. Slows casting speed as well as melee and run speed. Basically whoever you are shooting will NOT get any casts off! =D

Woot! 56/2/13 for me. Its nice of Blizzard to put it on their web site. Though, its still likely to change before release. Its changed a lot since alpha testing.

storm, earth & fire gives you a 25% chance to root with frost shock -- so with 5 shammies all doing it, most of the time you'll root the target. Interesting!
I'm likely to go with this ('http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html?tal=35200515002150510250135100000000 000000000000000000055001031004000000000000000').
However, astral shift is something to investigate. And while normally I'd say elemental shields are lame, when boxing heroics you can make yourself crit immune with this talent -- hmm. Additional crit % is a diminishing return, esp if ToW still stacks, but I hate to give up tidal mastery.

I'll be going with this ('http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html?tal=35300015232103513253135100000000 000000000000000000005032031000000000000000000')
I know it's not the best for mana efficiency (regen) but the damage and CC talents were too much to pass up :) besides with water shield in PvP it should be fine ^^
Also I've been thinking of a little trick to use on melee :) Drop ur Fire Novas.. wait till they go off (does damage and applies that slow debuff) and then thunderstorm them away.. they will be 20yrds from you and slowed :)
btw I want to point something out to anyone interested in Ehn raiding or suchlike :)
This Spec ('http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html?tal=35303010230100000000000030205203 105001332311520125000000000000000000000000000') looks like it's going to be absolutely insane for dps
basically the 3 spells you will need for this spec are.. StormStrike, Flame Shock, and this new Lava Burst..
Thie idea is you start melee dpsing with SS, then shock with flame shock (you will have probably crited in melee, therefore you shock only costs 30% of it's base value), so now you have your flame DoT on the mob.. and you need only to wait until you have 5 stacks of Mealstorm Weapon, for an instant cast Lava Burst (high damage fire spell)).. what happens next is even better ^^..
Lava Burst has a condition that means it has a 100% crit chance against a target that has the Flame Shock dot on it (it will be consumed tho). when you crit with Lava Burst, you Elemental Devastation will proc (9% crit for 10 secs), which means your mealstorm wep loads up faster, and you can cycle those 3 spells over and over, maintaining an extra 9% crit whilst you dps..
An additional bonus is that Blizz are combining melee and spell hit, as well as melee and spell crit rating from your gear, so your shocks will have a higher chance to hit and crit, even from your normal gear :)
so basically, we are looking at a permanent 9% crit, and on the fly high damage spell crits :) (courtesy of Elemental Fury)
EDIT: comment on posters spec above me: do you rly want the 0.5 secs off Healing Wave? 5x Lesser Healing wave tends to heal most of my team up quite nicely.

If what I've heard about the 2 specs thing comes to pass, I'll go for something along the lines of the following on most of my shammies, 1 will be PvP/Heal, others PVE/Heal:
PVE: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html?tal=35300015232150510253135100200000 000000000000000000055200001000000000000000000#none
PVP: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html?tal=35300015232150510253135100200000 000000000000000000055200001000000000000000000#none
Heal: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents2.html?tal=35300015232150510253135100200000 000000000000000000055200001000000000000000000#none
(No expert on Resto Shammies though, but this could work in an Mbox group)

Basically I think the new Shaman talents are pretty awsome, but for a multiboxer of 5xShaman its FREAKING AMAZING! And a bit overpowered! But hell, I'm not complaining.
5x Thunderstorm
5x Elemental Oath
5x Paralysis
5x Nova Totem slowing effect

I have a theory on this ^^ .. back in the day hybs got the short end of every stick imaginable :S (cept for ehn shammies at lvl 60 just before TBC ^^
now that multiboxing is coming along more and more, and GMs have tried their hand at it, I get this incling little feeling that they are doing a few of these things to make it even more fun to MBox :P

Back in the day I was a hybrid, it was tough. But these day hybrids have it easy.
While multiboxers make up only a very very very small portion of WoW players, I do think someone at Blizzards looks at the talents/spells and thinks about how it would look/work in a multiboxing format. And I must say, I *LOVE* what they have done for Elemental Shaman this time around! If I wasn't already on Elemental Shaman I'd roll just to get 5x Thunderstorm :D

I'm a bit worried about what Thunderstorm could do to me...

For those of you not up on your Bernoulli Trials, for a 4x Shaman, you'll have:
47.8% chance to proc a Paralysis per lightning spell Volley
68.5% chance to proc a Frost Shock root per Volley
This will be dominating.
I think I'll be using a 52/0/19 build myself if these stay remotely similar to what I've seen in the calculator.
I'm a bit worried about what Thunderstorm could do to me...
lol yeah! Someone could run into the center of your group and knock you into disarray! Let's hope no one outside of our community thinks of that! ^_^

Blizzard giveth and Blizzard taketh away...
Yep, some of the new talents are pretty damn good. However I'm pretty sure we will lose a lot of totem stacking in the expansion since totems will be raid wide - Healing Stream and Totem Of Wrath I'd expect to see changed.
Cheers,
S.

Running up towers in AV is bad enough if someone deciedes to fear you. Knockbacks up in those towers would just be frustrating :/

At least when you are feared you won't run off a ledge (or roof, wall, high dangerous place etc), but with the knock back effect I think you're going to be at the mercy of luck. If you get knocked back off the side you're screwed - I LOVE IT! Immediately coming to mind is the summoning stone at Ramparts. Fly over, drop down & Thunderstrike - down you fall!
Fortunately, not playing on a PVP server make me feel a lot better about the mechanics of it. I can see the potential for mobs to get bugged after being knocked back to an inaccessable area.

Mboxer drops 4/5 imp Fire Nova Totems.. waits a second and cast 1 Thunderstorm.. melee class or AoE mage looking silly as they can't move and are 20yrds away from you :)
not to mention that 5xnova + Thunderstorm look like they might do in the region of 7k combined per target :)
I have to say I'm almost looking forward to a melee heavy team now ^^

The bridge into the alliance base in AV is going to be an endless source of amusement now. As will be anyone trying to cap the lumber mill in AB. Chained TS's and over you go! LoL :P

If yourself is playing a sham team then you shouldn't have to worry about that, if they get too close to the center of your mobs just use your to push him back. The new arena fighting you might have to drop the sham first before anyone. Well the good thing is that only putting a good deal of points into ele tree you can get that. So if the sham is ench or restro then you don't have to worry about it. It would suck if it was an ench skill.
