View Full Version : How are you gearing your teams?

I'm not sure if most or all of us are working on our 5-man team solely for lvl 70 end game stuff, with the looming WotLK probably within the next 9 months, how are you guys gearing yourselves? Is it really that easy to get high lvl arena equipment? Is there decent enough drops in Heroic 5-man instances that my team could get near tier-6 quality armor and weapons?

I plan on doing A LOT of instances once I hit 20 just because I want to train for the outland ones. My main goal is to hit exhaulted with as many factions as I can (except for the insane ones who go for the bloodsail buccaneers), so I see a lot of instance grinding before I ever do a quest in outland.

Anyway.... let me know what you guys (and gals) are doing. You just can't be a lvl 70 hardcore multiboxer, but then decked out in blues and greens... right?

Heroic drops are barely near T4 let alone T6.

I wouldn't worry about gear. Level 74 BoE blues are already better than their T6 counterparts.

Also, oldworld instances don't give rep.

If I was in your situation I'd predict hitting 70 around 2-3 months before Wrath. Now in that situation, unless you are pretty dedicated, you're not gonna get much chance at running Kara+, so what to do?

I'd do the same as I am planning on my (currently shelved) shammy/pally team. Gather up 75,000 honour, 5,000 arena points, and as many PvP badges as I could get my hands on, then wait patiently. Starting so late in the game you'll never be able to catch up to the well geared guys, but you can put lots of "points in the bank" for a great head start in Wrath. When you hit 80, you can trundle off and get a couple of bits of the new Gladiator Equivalent gear and some of the blue PvP bits with all those hard earned points, and a nice head start.

The above is thoroughly possible even loosing 10 arena games a week with the blue rep based pvp gear.

I wouldn't worry about grinding to get exhaulted in all factions, just do all the quests and a few instances and that'll get you Kara entry level gear anyway.

This I think is the most "efficient" use of your time given the situation.

Also, oldworld instances don't give rep.Argent Dawn Rep is what I'm talking about mostly, but drops from BRD give rep with the Thorium Brotherhood.

I plan to get the best gear I can get with minimum amount of time, even if I know it will be outdated at level 80.

However, having the best gear I can get at 70 will be useful until I get green upgrades while levelling up.

That said:
- At least S2 armor and weapons.
- At least S4 gear obtainable with 1600 PR, that includes honor gear neerding PR.
- At least 10 games per week, resetting team at 1500 with whatever loses I get. So far, Im 2-8 the past 3 weeks.
- Keep doing "easy" heroic especially if it's the daily heroic for badges to get heroic badge gear upgrades.

My priorities in order:

1. Get team to 70
2. Finish quests for gold
3. Raise tradeskills to 375
4a. Bank 75,000 honor 4b. Bank arena points
5. Bank PvP badges
6. Grind instances

(I don't know what you'd actually do with said rep tho)

If you get exulted you get a free key to the 40 man raid Naxxramas .

So I stand by my post, forgo the imba gear for now, save up as much as you can that will actually "keep" for wrath. It might be worth getting a couple of S2 bits along the way to help with the PvP grind, but unless he levels super fast he's going to have "missed the boat".

Agree with the arena stuff though....

Wont arena points be reseted? kinda crazy if not...Well I'm making an assumption here that they wont. Badges and honour dont so why should points?

I think I'm going to lvl pretty quickly, especially once I get some tactics down. My main tactic is to get all the quests for my main (paladin) and all the kill count quests for the alts. I'm 17 (almost 17 with the locks) now and once I clear out the deatholme quests I'm off to do an experiment in Wailing Caverns. I'm going to use this to see how much experience I get with a full clear, probably be around lvl 20. If it seems to be a respectable amount of experience for the run, offset with the simplier kill count quests, then I should be able to lvl pretty quickly. I'm thinking 70's sometime in late August.

They will probably either make a different type or currency for badge gear, meaning you can still farm the old stuff (but why would you, if northrend greens and blues are better?) and for arena/honor, they can simply inflate the prices, and let you earn inflated points at max level. They will piss off too many people if they just delete everyone's hard earned points.

My plan was originally to get my locks and other pally geared in quest rewards, and whatever instance drops I find, and then try out heroics. I still might try heroics, but I'm not going to do it too much, with WotLK coming out soon. I will most likely just get as many 70s as I can by the time wrath goes live, and then level those teams up and then do the hard stuff. I should really get going on my shammies. Luckily, my second paladin booster is on the same account as my other shammy, so I can boost 4 more and then have a crazy amount of toons to pick from for wrath. Hopefully my choices of teams will be:

Paladin tank 4x shaman (1 resto)
Paladin tank 3x shaman 1 holy priest
Paladin tank 3x shaman 1 holy pally
Paladin tank 3x shaman 1 resto druid
Paladin tank 1 holy pally or 1 resto shammy 3x locks
Paladin tank resto shammy mage druid spriest (or sub in a lock for any)

Maybe i should look into other tanks? I have a 19 warrior, and i could always use my druid...

For the life of me i cannot remember if they reset points when BC came out...

My team is now 56 and with a weeks leave coming up i plan on hitting 70 in the next 4 weeks. i am aslo in the frame of mind that screw going for the H gear but just get the blues, get my 10 games a week and save my points and badges.

BUT if there is any chance of point reset then i may just go outside and visit the real world till LK comes out ;(

They definately didnt reset them no. I took about 30000 honour on my old main into TBC.

For my first team which was mostly cloth, I went for tailoring. For the second team, I was much more deliberate in my planning.

My advice is: look at the rep needed to get the PvP 'of the noob' armor for honored rep with Sha'tar, Honor Hold, Cenarion Expedition, Lower City and Caverns of Time on your way to 70. If you do look at rep granted for quests and do the one or other dungeon run, you can get that rep easily while you are collecting XP for leveling. Once you hit 70, equip your blue pvp noob armor, put green gems into it and go pvp. PvP your heart out and get the S2 armor and weapons together with vindicator/guardian accessories. You will end up being about T5 equivalent equipped within a short time. This is much more effective than heroics because you get the honor and tokens on all chars, rather than a drop only on one char. I would also advise to start doing arena as soon as you are 70 to accrue some points.

It's really not that bad... mix of heroics / honor / arena and you can get geared very quickly, I made the toons in my signature in March.

There was the Highlord/General PvP Tank to get the "uber" gear/weapon.
However, greens items from Outlands, and the initial green/blue gear from quests in Hellfire were obvious upgrades from most of the top gear in 60.
Only a few of those epic gear from BWL, Onyxia, Rag, and Naxx were worth keeping until level 65 gear matched them.

However, wearing epic gear from Molten Core allowed me (my warrior) to tank Ramparts at level 60-61 much without too much of a problem.
When my Paladin levelled 60 as prot, my gear was not quite up to par in tanking Ramparts with the same "ease" as that of my warrior.
