I've been five boxing on a older PC and Laptop and want to consolidate it to one machine. This will be about my fourth solo build but I'd like the opinions of others. In particular will the Raptor drive make a big difference?

Looks good. Just curious though, why the extra cooler and compound? Planning to overclock? The quad core will come with a stock CPU cooler.

The quad core will come with a stock CPU cooler.I planned on buying the OEM processor that doesn't come with a cooler or compound. You save $10 from the retail version that way. And if I wanted to overclock the CPU I could do it without burning it up with the after market cooler.

Looks like a great build. I would suggest going with a Zalman CPU cooler ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118003') , though. I have one and run my CPU overclocked with no problems.

I use the Zalman CNPS9700 ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019') running at 3.0 ghz, operating temp 48-50c

Thanks for the feedback. I'll replace the CPU cooler with one of the Zalman's.

It's been years since I've had a video card other than Nvidia. What are the thoughts on the new ATI 4800 series video cards? I've heard a lot about the very good price/performance on these cards.

if yeh gonna go with a 64bit operating system get like 8 gigs of memory. The only point in getting 64 bit os is so yeh can use over 4gigs of memory.

If yeh stick with 4 gigs , vista will eat 2gigs and each instance of wow will take any from 256 - 500 megs depending on setting and where yeh located.
if yeh hit a city yeh will lag with 5 chars.(assuming yer playing wow and have default install of vista...).

only time raptor might make a noticeable difference is loading into an instance

Hey,
I'm kinda bored with my 6lvl 70's. And thinking about Multiboxing (4-5 chars).
I also wanna play it on one pc. So I'm following this post with great interest.

Do you have your hardware allready and tested it?

Wowphreak is dead on. Skip the raptor, buy more RAM. You won't be sorry. My memory utiliization is usually around 5 GB when I'm 5 boxing using a very similar build. Resource manager puts most of my load on CPU and memory.

*cracks knuckles and presses hotkey*

64bit, Vista, 8gb ram and WoW: Don't bother, World of Warcraft is a 32 bit application and runs on a 32 bit emulator in Vist64 called Windows on Windows (Yes WoW-on-WoW) and is still limited to the same restrictions you are accustomed to. That said, ram is cheap, other games are 64bit compatible, hopefully Warcraft will be one day, but don't expect ANY performance increases due to using more than 4gb ram.

To test your theory about RAM utilization. Disable your pagefile.sys Since you have 8gb, and only use 5, there shouldn't be any problems... Don't worry, the bluescreen is not permanent, and re enabling paging is as easy as disabling it.
