Why is it I can run 1 copy of wow or 5 copies of wow and get about the same damn performance?!

Anyone know of a way to unlock this potential... I just dont understand why my machine doesn't absolutely fly when I am single boxing and raiding...

Spec's:
Athlon X2 6000+
2GB DDR2 (Crucial)
nVidia 7900gt (Dual head in use) (256mb)
nVidia 8500gt (Dual head, not in use at this time) (256mb)
Onboard Sound

I've considered buying a soundblaster to offload the sound, but does it make that much of a difference?

Um, your performance with 5 loaded wow is as bad as 1 wow loaded?

I wouldn't mind a little more information. What do you mean by "fly"? Is your FPS low or high somewhere near 60? Remember, anything above 30 FPS is still pretty good. Based on what you have listed, I would suspect network latency if you're not getting the performance you expect.

Try disabling some of the "special" features of the 7900, from my experience that increases FPS by upto 10-20%

With a single instance of WoW running, I get anywhere between 20 (Shatrah) and 100+FPS (flying high in the sky with little on screen).

I can dual box with no performance hit. The game is mostly smooth but I can certainly tell the difference between when it's running 50FPS and 20FPS.

I regularly run 3 instances of WoW (from 1.5 installations using Simlinks for most of the folders). The other day when I fired up 5 for the first time, I was stunned that the performance didn't tank... I was still getting 40+ FPS on all 5 boxes in the undead starting area...

Basically I'm not unhappy with the performance, but I'd be a lot happier posting some bigger numbers because there are times my framerate tanks.

Can you expand on that?

Just a note I thought I'd toss in here...

I have a 2nd system that is nearly a clone of the first, it's an x2 5600 with a nvidia 7600gt... I've been using that to run 4 of my 5 box team. Yesterday my girlfriend left a lot of browser tabs open with her job search, so I didn't want to close them... but once I got all copies of wow running 3 of them ran fine, the 4th ran like crap.

I closed out the unneeded applications and boom, everything was smooth again.

It's pretty amazing that it's that borderline!

I've got interesting note about internet browser as well. Thats pretty funny and weird. I run 2 monitors and 1 PC.
When I have IE opened on one monitor, sometimes wow clients on that monitors disconnect.
When I have IE opened on 2nd monitor - clients opened on that monitor disconnect time by time.

lol :?
