New upload rules
by Blake Whitman July 21st, 2008
"The Vimeo staff has decided that we are no longer going to allow gaming videos on Vimeo. Specifically, we are no longer going to allow game walk-throughs, game strategy videos, depictions of player vs player battles, raids, fraps, or any other video gaming videos that simply depict individuals playing a video game. Videos falling into this category will be subject to deletion as of September 1st; new videos of this type will be removed.

-- snip --

Two questions you might have:

1) Are my gaming videos going to be deleted?

Starting today, all new gaming videos are subject to deletion. Videos uploaded before today will be hosted until September 1.

2) I make Machinima films! It's not the same thing! Am I banned?

We currently do not feel that Machinima films fall under the category of gaming videos described above and, therefore, assuming compliance with our site’s general terms & conditions, we will continue to accept such videos on Vimeo. We are not, at this time, banning films that fall into the Machinima genre."

Anyone try Xfire? Not sure how much you can upload at a time, but their capture program seems pretty decent.

I'm trying out GameVee.com -- seems decent, not as good quality as Vimeo but since it's a gaming video site it's not likely I'm going to have to move... again.

First Stage6, now Vimeo... *sigh*

The problem with wegame is that, much like youtube, it has a 10 minute limit.

That and they do not yet support my .divx files, which means I'd have to re-encode all of my videos.

Is it really considered "rape" if it was Jessica Alba?

anyone tried vreel.net ? It was the stage6 replacment, I placed a video on there but it never showed up so I guess they are having bugs/issues in some areas, anyone else have better luck?

Last time I heard about that they hadn't opened their doors to the public yet.

I'll try uploading something and see how far I get, but tbh with many of these generic video hosts, I don't really feel like seeing if yet another host is going to put the axe on video game hosting and me having to move yet AGAIN.

Oh theres two threads lol I was like wtf!

Vynd, whats the average size of one of your videos? What quality aswell? Do you know how many hits they get?

All I need is to finish this perl upload script and my system is basically complete.

Well, when they're .divx I believe they're all between 100-250 megs (depending on length), and they're all 720p. As for hits, I have no idea. Some people want speed, some want the full HD bit -- if you look at the hits on streams, particularly the fast-loading low-quality ones, it's far more than the downloads.

It's why I upload my videos to so many places, because everyone wants a different thing. Youtube for fast, low-quality streaming. Vimeo for high quality streaming. Self-hosted for full HD downloads.

My QQ more video averages 50-100 hits per day, 15.4k hits total. That's not counting the youtube hits, 11k hits total. Or warcraftmovies - 23.6k hits (313 per day). Filefront, only 883 total.
