Hello everyone,

So I have a question for the community. I recently created a guild for boxers called "playing with myself". It was fine until I came back from vacation and the powers that be changed my guild name and sent me a letter saying it was against the ToA.

Can this be true? If someone reported me because they have a dirty mind is that a legit arguement? How can I try to get my guild name back?

So far I have contacted WoW via email and explained that I box and there is no ill intent with the name.

Any help would be great.

To be honest i dont think you would get it back.... because obviously its a funny play on words that GMs just assume is bad. So i would think of a new guild name and have it ready for when you petition. That way the GM can change it to something new on the spot and you dont have to contact him 2x cause you werent ready for name change.

As far as getting it back to the old name.... obviously people have already petitioned you enough to catch GM's attention so i would avoid wasting time arguing the point its not what they think it is... and avoid a future incident.

Well I have to talk to people in the accounts deparment. It is not a GM so I am not sure if what you are saying is correct however I am leaning towards me not getting my guild name back.

What happens if I create a new guild with the same name? :P

Using characters on the same accounts? Trouble, I would expect.

Think you will have to just take this decision on the chin. Of course you could appeal the decision (cant remember the e-mail address sorry) but if they still say no, I wouldnt look for a problem with the GMs.

Keep in mind through all this that _intent_ does not matter one whit.

When I first rolled Horde on Feathermoon (RP server), I made a rogue named 'Dirtydeeds'. He lasted a whole 2 weeks before the powers that be changed his name. I got an email from Blizzard saying that name was innapropriate for a RP server.

I deleted him and remade using the same name. Never have had a problem with the name since.

As far as innapropriate name, I thought 'Dirtydeeds' was dead on for a rogue.

Well indeed and like so many of these things you may never ever have a problem again. But were someone to report your name again, its clear that against your account you were given a warning saying it was inappropriate. And the course of action they take against you would escalate up from a name change instruction. Either a warning against your account or a temp ban and a warning.

I think with Blizzard its like this. If you break the law IRL and you go to court, the court will tell you that ignorance of the law and not knowing you were doing anything illegal is not a defence and wont be taken into consideration. With Blizzard they accept that there are grey areas - for example you might be from a country where a potentially offensive name isnt slang where youre from. So they give you the chance to change it and are lenient. You get the benefit of the doubt.

But if you then go back and repeat the same offense (what they consider an offense) they tend to take very very unkindly to it because they have given you their position before and you dont have an excuse. They have already done it the nice way and given you a fair chance.

Not judging anyone or anything they have done just outlining the risks you take. In these situations, Blizzard is God and their judgement is final. You wouldnt want to make God angry now would you? :P

it all comes down to perception. Names used to be changed over the same thing (Lovechild, etc)

One of my guild names is reported as Against tos changed and I moved on.

sorry

I guess that means the <Whorelocks> that I suggested in the other thread is out the window.
