So has anyone preordered this? I won't kid myself for a minute. I'm going to get one of these! It seems this may be better than voice recognition software. Maybe.. who knows.

Looks like they will run about $150. Not too bad for us rich MBers I guess. :)

OCZ’s Neural Impulse Actuator (nia) marks a new era in gaming. Rather than being a substitute for a mouse, the nia is a pioneering new peripheral to be used in conjunction with your mouse for a more immersive gaming experience. The nia is compatible with any PC game using keyboard input… past, present, or future. Predefined profiles included with the software allow the gamer to develop their own nia—memory to launch the desired behavior of their character and shoot with the “blink of an eye”, without lifting a finger.

Play Games Using Biosignals
Translate electrical biosignals of your body directly into computer commands and take advantage of total immersion into game play. Customize behavioral profiles of your character and let your subconsciousness take over.

Hone Your Reflexes
Where others have to practice reaction times, you can use reflex-based game play to get the better of your opponents by cutting your reaction time by 50%.

Use Space-Age Technology
The headband uses carbon nanofiber-based sensors to provide the highest possible dynamic range for the recording of bioelectrical signals that are amplified and digitized and further de-convoluted into computer commands.

Become Your Character
Streaming biopotentials into the computer and witnessing real-time feedback through the game will result in a novel way to experience virtual reality. Enter a virtual world where abstractions like keyboard commands are replaced by intentions converted into tensions and translated into command structures.

Little confused on what it doesIt reads a combination of muscle movement and brainwaves to give you different controls which can then be bound to keys.

Pretty good review of the thing there, it's not easy, it requires practice and training, and I want one baddly... but I can't find anyone with them in stock.

WOW talk about complicated. It looks like it will be better for first person shooters. Knowing my luck i will be in arena or in the middle of tanking a raid boss fight when my wife asks me something and i respond and the next thing you know my pally bubbles... not good

Here is my hammer, and here

In all seriousness, I can see it being very useful for things that are commonly used and normally take fingers to do...

Basic directional control for the "herd" while you tank it free's you up to move the alts left/right/forward/back without taking your hands off the normal buttons... I'd be VERY curious to see if you could 2 box with it for your primary movement on the 2nd character... given enough practice you could handle the basics of movement and a few different attacks... suddenly a 5 boxer can control 2 of his alts fluidly, and choose which of the other 3 follow which of the mobile players, etc etc.

It does look good and the ideas with boxing is end less. No more hitting the spread out key. you can just "think" it. But the article that you link basically said it will take some time to learn. The other thing is that it will take a lot more concentration to do stuff and if anything takes your mind off the game you will be screwed. This would have been great if i was still in college, but now i don't have that much time to game so getting use to it will take about a year. The other thing is, that it is new, other companies will see how it does and if it works better stuff will come out.... Here is hoping that i will get to play a MMORPG like .hack//sign

Do your research on this before you buy. I was quite excited about it at first, but wanted to see some objective first hand reports about it. So far, what I've seen has been quite mixed on how well it works. We've had a couple threads on here about it and I think someone (Suvega?) already got one and it didn't work out so well.
Then again, it's only $150, so it's not a huge loss if it doesn't work out for you.

And thus, a generation who believes they can make the world do their bidding is borne.

Imagine the people who pretended they had Jedi mind powers after Star Wars came out.

Now imagine a colony of people who get frustrated at themselves when they fail to make your head explode after staring at you for 3 minutes, and blame it on your superior Mind Defensive capabilities.

Further speculation reveals that the Human Race, from this point on, will evolve into an armless species, as they have no use for such primitive tools. Instead, we will grow ears the size of a hat brim to support the newest technology in brain wave scanners. Our heads will shrink down to our shoulders, as our necks have learned its not worthwhile to support such heavy headgear.
