I’ve been wondering what to do next since hitting 70 over the weekend. My goal to begin with was to do the horrid BG honor grind, get the gear then from that point hit arenas.
I’m at least sure the new Expansion will be available before Christmas. That said, it doesn’t leave much time to enjoy the fruits of my work on that grind.
So looking at my options, there are some pros and cons.
Grind the gear
Pros: Play 70 on god mode x5. Level cap raises, perhaps have a edge starting out, lots of world pvp since everyone is leveling. Would be nice to have decent resilience for those fights.
Cons: Most likely by 75 all gear will be replaced, all work gone with nothing left to show for it.
Other Stuff:
Pros: Well I haven’t tried quite a few instances yet, or for that matter heroics! Would be interesting to see what this team combo could do, as a reference for us all.
Could 5man ZG for the cat mount. Is it possible to 5 man MC and BWL, NAXX? And all those? Never saw them because of the times I played. Worth looking in to.
Could work on getting 5 epic flying mounts, cap my crafts and grind some cash for the bank.
Potential to find world PVP for a new movie. Don’t see many out in the wild like I used to but perhaps killing a few will provoke a group or raid to come after me, it normally always does.
I can avoid the painful honor grind for now, and only have to do it once at 80.
Cons: Not as powerful as I could be, gear makes a big difference, just hitting 70 420+ damage isn’t great!
When the Xpac comes out, I could be at a big disadvantage without the gear fighting groups of people to collect content for a new video.
Level alts: Well I could level alts; I have 5 level 16 shaman I was testing out.
Pros: Get to experience something else. Plenty of content to collect for movie on the way. If I make it to 70 I could potentially decide to 10 box.
Cons: Back to the grind, would have to change my entire configuration and key mappings to do it the way I want it (least I can just copy the WTF and interface folder to keep the lock settings intact).
Wouldn’t have epic flying mounts or any other bells and whistles finished by the Xpac.
Also a bit crowded in the boxing community (I like being the underdog on class choice for something different).

Well if history is any indication, wrath beta will last 4 months, my guess is November release. I'm in a similar boat, my group is about to hit 68. I'm just going to pretend no expansion is comming and enjoy the game. :D

My plan is to spend an hour or so doing dailies as often as possible with my 3 groups of 70s until I have epic flying mounts and PL maxed tradeskills on my guys. Then I'll slack off and do the easy peezy dailies and level my hunters and druids until the expansion. Then, I haven't decided yet whether I'll start a DK group immediately or level my shammies, locks and mages to 80 or what.
So many choices, so little time. :P

Even though I started multiboxing months ago and I am somewhat of an expert leveler, I slacked off and my main group is just now 40. I'm trying to hit 55, which from previous experience, should be cake now. Until then, all bets are off. I have characters that I could transfer to the other accounts to make all of them have 55+ characters, but I'd really like to avoid the costs associated with that.

I plan to tweak my gear a bit, take a stab at completing all bosses in all heroic 5 mans, and then just farm golds or work on alts until WotLK. Might level another team to 70 to split off onto a 10-man, or alternatively level some teams of alts to 60 -- banking that they make easier leveling from 60-70.

Do a few of the easiest dailies every day, get in some arena and start saving points till capped, only do bonus honor weekend battlegrounds for your s2 weapons, and level some alts the rest of the time. Dailies, arena, and BG's will only need a little bit of your time, and leveling some alts would be the majority.
i'll be leveling herbalism on most my profession-less alts.
I believe inscriptions (the new coming prof) has to do with herbs. I'll be ready when the crowds hit the AH on release day

MC can be 5 manned (although you'll need a tank most likely so make that 6) ZG can be for sure, I 2man it for the tiger/raptor mount each week (doesn't drop >_<) polymorph book is also easy to farm and sells for loads on my server(i do it with a feral druid in T6 though so he takes like 500 damage at most a hit :P )
Bwl ... well never tried with less then 15, and even then vael proved to be annoying, remember bosses are still boss level so they do still hurt, and vael is a race against time, naxx you just cannot 5man in my experience you'd have to have a good tank and i doubt he can do it alone.
pvp side: afraid it's a long grind and indeed when wotlk comes out the gear will be replaced: i'd still suggest you get that resilliance though, i personally went outlands in T1/2 gear with the T3 boots, when i dinged 70 i still had my T3 boots, T2 shoulders and helm, and didn't replace those before karazhan drops so it might just be that you do keep some pieces for a good while.also epic flyers aren't that hard to get, do every quest you haven't done yet (it's like 9 to 11G a quest) and do your dailies, while it's boring as hell it's good money and can easy earn you 2000 gold with your toons a day (even though you need about 33000 >_<)

The things you can carry with to 80 is only really:
- mount skill level
- tradeskill level
- gold (but if inflation is similar to TBC, no point in saving up)
with that in mind, the most productive would be to farm epic mounts for as many characters as possible - what's most fun though, I guess that's up to you - for me it would be pushing to complete heroics.
I just hit 69 with my team. My plan is to hit 70 on my paladin, get prot gear and Figurine of the Colossus, then it's boosting time ! :D
Gonna boost all my alts to 58 in ST.

I've been doubting a lot about what to do when (/if) I get to 70 in time,
I'll do some dailies to get my epic mounts and I want to try to finish all the instances before wotlk hits the streets (preferably heroics aswell)
But alts could use some leveling aswell.
:s
Just do what you feel like,
it's a game, it's entertainment,
so treat it that way.
But hey, it's an mmorpg and the competition forces us to improve ourselves.

Things that will help you when WOTLK hits, max profs, max riding, experience in dungeons. It looks like your team is setup for pvp, why not just get the rep blues and get your ass handed to you in Arena and get some experience. Then just do AV for your honor rewards.
I am leveling alts that I want to have ready when the expansion comes, once they are 70 with max profs, I'm just gonna BG/raid cause that's fun.

I wouldn't wait to do arenas.
You really should have no expectations in the beginning, and use your priest as well, to 5-man arenas. It's easier to lose 10 matches a week by yourself rather then drag someone else down with you (at least, this is how I felt while 4-boxing my shaman in the beginning. It was tough to stick with arenas because I felt bad for the guy healing me).
This way, you can at least get some free epic pvp gear. You will still collect at least 250 points per week with the lowest rating, and at least at that rating you can find some challenges that you can overcome!
Key point: Get all the arena points you can and swallow whatever pride you have regarding Arena Ratings. Missing 10 matches per week = taking longer to gear up.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in detail is Rep Farming. Does anyone think that "old" reps will unlock anything useful in WotLK? Argent Dawn and Timbermaw were mostly useless after TBC and I'm guessing most of the current Outland reps will also fall by the wayside. I'll admit I haven't read up on new factions, but I've debated about running instances or even heroics to get Revered everywhere, for example. I'm leaning away from that now but would be open to suggestions as well.
@ Bradster - I'm in the same boat, as I'm about to ding 70 this week, so I love this thread. My current plan is to find a set of dailies that I like and gradually work on instances and heroics (if possible) and some Arena.

I would at least get honored everywhere so you can do heroics, even when the expansion comes out there might be some stuff in heroics, plus it is fun to beat the piss out of a hard heroic with tier 9 stuff lol.

I just dinged 70 on my shammies 5 days ago, and I've been focusing on dailies for SSO rep and gp for the epic flyers. At about 3500g per toon already (helps that I found some BoE blues etc that sold quickly, and am swimming in enchanting mats to sell off) and dinged honored with SSO after only 3 days of dailies. SSO offers 3 quite nice rep items I can buy to jump start the gearing for eventually grinding out some heroics. I don't care for PvP in WoW (shooters are the place to go for pvp imo ;) but I do plan to do a bunch of instances, both as a 5-box team and 4 boxing with a r/l friend of mine tanking. This is mainly for fun, as I like the dunegons. Gearing up this close to Wrath probably isn't super important, but then again any leet gear you have to start with makes the new 71-73 instances that much more doable so it's not a total waste.
I'd bet real world money current faction rep will be largely useless when wrath comes out (tho, more useful than old-world rep, due to faction mounts). From what I've read there is, for example, an argent dawn faction in Northrend, but it's an offshoot with a new name and is a whole new rep grind. That's how blizz does things, they basically give you new types of money to grind out (badges, rep, primal nethers when they mattered a lot, etc) as a way of keeping the "economy" working somewhat smoothly and give you something to do without having to build truly new content like dungeons all the time.
I agree with above posters about tradeskills, mats to get skills 350-375 will likely get very pricey when wrath first ships when people go into panic mode to get their skills up for some sexy new craftable. Also, when BC came out, copper bars and ore were crazy expensive as everyone went to train JC and all the mining nodes were camped. So, stock up on mid-level old world herbs for selling to people powerlevelling inscription the first week wrath is out!

Thanks all for the suggestions.
I’d love to run instances and play around, but void walkers don’t seem to cut it at 70. Last night as an example I decided to try out one of the instances in Area 52, I think it was called Bontica or something like that.
The mobs in here do aoe damage, and a great deal of it. I did 3 pulls in this instance and left. I’d send the pets I’d fight the big mob, and it would explode. If I tell pet/tanks to come back it aoes everyone. If I have the remain in place the damage if the AOE takes all the pets down to 10% health. If I wanted to do this instance, least just the trash I’d be using Shards on every pull, which would make for a really long run. Least I didn’t need to go there I was just messing around.
Have to have a tank, that’s really all there is to it. I began to realize this around BRD, once I hit outlands it become a reality. I cannot gear out a void walker, it cannot be crit immune or uncrushible, it will never scale up or be any better then it is now. It can hold agro for a short time, it’s good for leveling but this wasn’t what it was intended for.
I was kind of depending on my friend who loves to tank, and is a Prot Pally on a PVP server no less , to share in the fun with doing instances with me. But he simply has no desire to play anymore.
Last night I grinded out another 2k honor and pickled up the shoulders on all my guys, looking pimp! But I think I’m done on the honor grind for now. I really dislike the honor grind more then anything else. So when I do it, I just want to do it once, so at level 80.
Think from this point I’ll work on making some gold, run ZG for the Cat mount and leveling my alt shamans. What’s cool is I already have a 70 Shaman. So I’m going to run 1 Prot Pally and 4 Shamans. When I want to PVP I replace Pally with Shaman, when I want to PVE I use the pally. Really that should work out perfect. If I do manage to make it to 70 again, I might just have to start 10 boxing.
