Saw that FSS has laid off most of it's employees, and that subscriptions are no longer being accepted or being billed.... another one bites the dust?

San Francisco, CA (July 14, 2008) -- Flagship Studios has announced today that despite rumors to the contrary, the company is still operating.

“It is with deep regret that I must announce that Flagship Studios has laid off most employees. However, the core management and founding team members are still at Flagship.” said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. “The past five years have been an incredible experience for us, but unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain the size of the company any longer.”

Flagship Studios owns the rights to all its technology and IP, including Hellgate: London and Mythos. Due to the current situation, Flagship will not be taking any new subscribers for Hellgate: London, and all current subscriptions will not be billed.

Flagship wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to those that have supported the company and games over the past five years.

Saw this coming from a mile away. I forked over the 50 bucks for the initial game, but the game just didnt have the staying power of other games.

From my understanding, they're not having any problems still BILLING their customers..... it's canceling your account that's the real issue.

Real shame... got into it with the beta and liked it enough to buy the CE and a lifetime sub.

Not a MMG at all but good fun for the occasional blast through.

The main problem for me was the linearity of the game... if you "finish" one char and play an alt, even a different class, then you're going to do all of the same quests and all of the same "dungeons" again, it did not have the breadth of WoW.

But, the servers are still up and the official forums are still alive (although very devoid of official information) so fingers crossed :)

It's a shame. I had high hopes for the game. A friend and former coworker was the art producer. The market's just too saturated.

The market's just too saturated.I had high hopes for the game too, but I don't think market saturation contributed to it's lack of success. From my experience, it was buggy, overly repetitive and had a poor interface/controls. I tried REALLY hard to like it. I even paid the monthly fee for it. It had potential, but just not quite enough of a "spark/magic".
