View Full Version : How to handle loot effectively

Hi,
I'm just trying out a 4 shaman (what else ^^) team and have just started running rfc. Now while I think I've a good idea about how to do combat / setup macros etc I'm pretty much overwhelmed by how much effort it takes me to distribute loot between the toons (and equip it etc). I'm running with ffa loot and loot with my main, then have to look around through my other chars and trade the loot to this char / equip it etc.
Now, does someone know any add ons that might help speed that up? Like an addon to compare the looted item not only to the one my main toon has equipped but to all the other toons also?
It just feels kind of strange that I can destroy rfc but spend almost more time looting / distributing than actually fighting :)
kind regards

Get a software app or wifi mouse that'll let you click x5 on all clients. That way, you just right-click the mob and everyone loots it. Keep clicking until everyone loots their pieces and you're done. :)

I'm not so much concerned about picking up the loot, but more concerned about distributing it. Basically I'll be rolling with master looter set to green (main is ml) and all slaves also passing on loot (so my main picks up everything and can also ml bop stuff). What I'm looking for is some way to 'decide' who shall get what (greens, blues, bop stuff) without manually inspecting the toons. Because thats currently whats taking me a long time to do.

Ah, gotcha. There are loot/inventory addons that will help but they're almost more trouble than they're worth. :P

Ah, gotcha. There are loot/inventory addons that will help but they're almost more trouble than they're worth. :PYou would not happen to have any names? I'd be mighty happy to have an addon that shows me what my other toons have equipped in a given slot or something like that.
I'm thinking that once I'm past getting basic equip for all slots on all chars things will ease down, but at the moment it really sucks.

Look up "mouse broadcasting" for ideas on that. I think it's discussed in threads about accepting quests and such. Octopus is what I use for it. Wireless mice is what I used to use for it. Both of those work fine.
Regarding the addons for group wardrobe and such, I looked but the only one I can find is Multiboxer V2 ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Addon:MultiboxerV2'). I thought there were others but that might be what you're after.

I use an addon called Examiner ('http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7377-Examiner.html').
If I understand what your are looking for I think this addon will help you see what your other characters are wearing.
It caches the inspect of another player and lets you compare different inspections also.
"Examiner ('http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7377-Examiner.html') is an advanced inspection mod which you can use to check other players gear, talents, honor and arena team details.
When you inspect someone, it will show a stat summery of all their equipped gear combined.
Please note that these values are from gear alone, and will not include bonuses from buffs, talents or normal base stats.
Each player you inspect, will be cached so you can look them up later, even when they are no where near you.
This option can be disabled if you prefer not to cache the people you inspect."
Examiner sounds really cool
I wonder if there's someway you can extend EQCompare so that it'll show party members items too, not just your own. That'd be cool. :p

I run with FFA and pass on all for my alts, then just loot everything with my main. After my loot bags fill up is when I start handing things out... an AcceptTrade() macro is invaluable. :)
Sometimes in instances I do Master Looter and then give greens directly to my enchanter or drops to whoever uses them, maybe try this out.

Not sure if it still applies or not, but equipcompare used to work with CharactersViewer so you could use CV to rotate between all your alts and compare their gear too... although that'd be different from having it be the people in your party... and... yeah... that's not EQcompare...
*sigh* nevermind.

I've been wondering about a similar addon,
I used to use an addon which came up with comparison numbers in the tooltip which calculated your talents and all to see which item would be better.
I've got no clue how it was called tbh,
February is to far back ;)
Basically what I use now is Recount,
I check who did the least damage and hand them the item if it's anything less then mail.
I also consider their mana pool to see if one is behind on the rest.
My main usually takes more damage, so he gets all the mail stuff first.

The addon I use that compares stats is Rating Buster ('http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5819-Rating_Buster.html').
It works with EquipCompare ('http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info4392-EquipCompare.html') here is a pic of the tooltip with Rating Buster ('http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5819-Rating_Buster.html') installed.

yep -
I set my main as the group leader, then use MasterLoot. I also have a macro that sets it up so that only mobs with greens/blues "sparkle". That way I only loot the mobs that have greens/blues, and don't spend too much time looting.
Of course I'm boosting right now, so I'm not interested in anything but XP and "free" gear for my alts.
You might also consider "LootFilter" as a way of deleting grey and white loot items. It will take some setup, but you can set it so that it will automatically delete anything below greens, open clams, auto-vendor greys/whites, etc.

I'd love to know what macro you use that only sparkles mobs with greens or blues. Can you share please?

I'm on the road right now and won't be at that computer until tomorrow night. I saw it on a blog someplace, so I might find it before then.
edit: found it!---> http://www.wowwiki.com/API_SetLootThreshold
/script SetLootThreshold(2)
that will set it so that only the mobs with green or blue loot will sparkle. If you want blues only - the change the 2 to a 3

I came across this thread while searching for the same thing, and just thought I'd bump it in case anyone had come up with anything in the last few months. I just found out that my lvl 24 mage was still wearing Woven Boots and I'd love something that would automatically tell me whether a given piece of loot was an upgrade for party members.

Why not just look at your alt's health and/or mana bars? That's what I do to make sure they're all wearing the items we've come across.

Not sure why people have this problem. The only drops that are worth wearing are blue or purple. Green drops are almost always worse than quest rewards, and for quest rewards all 4 of your shamans will be wearing the same things most likely anyway.
For the blue/purple drops in instances, it only takes a second to see who needs it, and with 4 shamans you should really know before you even look at them (most likely they'll all need it, or you'll know who already has that piece off the top of your head anyway).
I've never had to inspect more than 1 shaman to determine if I need a drop, and pre-80 I never had to inspect any because I only really used quest rewards anyway. I don't use ML because its a waste of time, I just set FFA and loot EVERYTHING on my main unless its a BoP item which I'll usually loot on my enchanter to DE it, or another shaman if I know one of them needs to wear it, but 99% of the time I never have to switch windows because I loot everything on my main.
Also, by sparkling only on green/blue drops you're passing up mats and craploads of grey drops that sell for a small fortune. I'd say every instance run I pick up at least 30-50g worth of greys, probably twice that much.
