View Full Version : Is dual boxing even worth it? Or should I just step it up and go with the 3way?

Hey! So I've been messing around for quite some time dual boxing with guest accounts and what not. I'm finally to the point where I'm going to step it up and follow through with a project. My question is...
-Is it even worth it to box two toons, or should I just step it up and do three?
-Isn't there a huge XP advantage doing three over two?
-Do you tend to have more fun boxin' three toons vs. two?
I've done a few searching and nothing specific came up about which is "better"

As many as you can run. Dual-boxing is nifty but isn't spectacular. Go with 3+ and things just start going nutso. You'll be crying for the other 2 before long. :P

Several things to consider...
FInancial: It "may" only be an extra $40 (Battlechest) and $15 a month extra for the third, but for some folks, that is a deal breaker.
System: WoW isn't the most resource/graphics intensive game around, but some systems that can handle it with one or "maybe" two instances running concurrently may puke when you add the third one.
Game Mechanics: You WILL get the group XP bonus as long as you have a MINIMUM of three in the party, so yes, there would be a bump in XP...I think when I started my 5 man team, the group bonus in the starting area was an extra 5XP per mob (quoting from memory here).
Fun: For the first 3 1/2 years of the game, one account was "fun". I jumped from 1 to 5, not that it's for everyone due to the points mentioned above. I would think that 3 would be a nice "middle of the road" experience. You'll still be missing out on one of the best aspects of boxing...that is NO LFG. However, you can also create your own Arena Team with 3s (look up top for Ellay's Orlando MLG Tourney post) and go that route. Simply put, whatever is "fun" for one may not be for another.
Just my 2c.

I started boxing yesterday. I had 2 accounts and i played all last night 0 SLEEP!!!! and today i was like hmmm, so i just got home from walmart bought my 3rd one, made my window in maximizer and now am lvling trip shams on kalecgos! whack,whàck, and whåck! My opinion.... Go three it allows you to enjoy the benefits of boxing like 1-2 shotting mobs, and you have more fun in the mix. so yeah definatly go 3!

Howdy slowcow and welcome to the forums!
if you're not sure... no need to stress.. just try it out. go to the blizzard site and create 3 free 10 day trial accounts. this will allow you to try 5 boxing (total madness!) without having to pay right now. your limitations? with the trial accounts you cannot use the mail, trade or use the AH. you are also level capped to 20.
oh.. and if you want to shave a few $$ off the cost... click here:
to save money, before you buy a new account, remember to do a recruit-a-friend from your main account to each of your new accounts. this will save you 1 months fee per account
:D
as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note and i'll see what i can do to help you out.
have a great night and welcome to our addiction!

Thanks for all of the replys guys!
I think I'm going to go ahead and try my hand at 3 of them. I've got dual monitors and enough CPU to do 6 so I might as well have fun with it. But now the REAL decisions start... What classes? lol! 3 Warlocks?

That really depends on what classes you like to play. Questing will be a breeze almost regardless of your choice. If you're new to boxing, pick 1 melee char at most (for the main - its harder to control melee chars as slaves). If it was me, I would probably choose something that would blend easy with other classes for group scenarios. A priest/druid and 2 caster dps. Three locks would be fun too - and good for pvp as well, but might be harder to find a group with.
My suggestion: Go for 5 accounts and make 5 shammies or 1 priest 4 locks :P
