View Full Version : Problem with Alt-Tabbing and/or PiP feature...

Hi guys. I just recently decided to try out multiboxing and have been doing my best to learn. I am just starting with a dual setup right now (two chars on one machine) and making progress. I got Octopus and am very happy with it so far. It seems that it will do everything I want it to do, however I have run into a strange problem...

Basically, when Octopus is running, I cannot Alt-Tab to any other window. To elaborate, I can press Alt-Tab, the Windows task switcher pops up, and I can tab over to the window I want. However, when I release the tab key... nothing happens. The selected application does not come to the foreground. Of course, this is only a slight annoyance, however may present problems if I need to do something on my alt (gather quest, etc.). Also, I cannot get the PiP feature of Octopus to work either (which would seem to be the obvious solution to Alt-Tabbing). I have tried a plethora of different keys to use for PiP, but nothing seems to happen.

Also, my apologies if this issue has been dealt with elsewhere already, but after 2 hours searching the forums + Google, I've come up with nothing.

Thanks!

Strange. I don't see that on my PCs here. What's your system setup like? And how do you have your keys set in the whitelist section?

Thanks for the reply.

So far, I only have one key (the number '1') setup in the whitelist. :) That is as far as I got before I noticed the Alt-Tab issue. I had experimented with some Click assignments, but removed them once I discovered the problem. So, at them moment, there is only the single key set. Also, the issue is present regardless of Broadcast settings. If any, all, or none are checked, I still cannot Alt-Tab. As for the PiP issue, I may have something setup wrong, not sure, but I cannot get that to work with any key binding.

I am running two copies of WoW, both maximized. I don't need to see both at once, although I may have to consider that if I cannot fix this issue. At the moment, I just run the alt behind my main.

My system specs:
Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz
Geforce 8800 GTS 512
4 GB RAM (only ~3.3GB recognized by 32bit Windows of course)
WinXP Pro (SP2)
Logitech LX710 Keyborad/Mouse Combo
Nostromo N52
Soundblaster X-Fi Gamer

The problem goes away (predictably) when 'Bypass' mode is checked. But, even when WoW is not running, if Octopus is active, I cannot Alt-Tab successfully.

Thanks.

Another strange development...

I assume this is probably related to my original problem... It seems that my basic issue is I am having strange behavior from the Alt key. After experimenting in game, I discovered that my Alt keys are basically acting as a toggler for 'Pass all keys' mode. At least, that is what appears to be happening. I do not have any toggle set for Pass all keys (I even tried setting one to see if this issue would go away), however I discovered that when I hold the Alt key, and press other buttons, they are broadcast to both instances. For example: at the moment I am using a Blacklist, rather than Whitelist setup. I am broadcasting all keys except my movement keys: Up, Down, Left, Right. However, the strange thing is, if I hold the Alt key and press Up, Down, Left, or RIght, BOTH chars move. 8| Once Alt is released, back to normal; movement keys only move my main. So, somewhere that I cannot find, Octopus has reserved the Alt key for itself as some sort of modifier, and that is why I cannot use the Alt key for normal tasks, such as Alt-Tabbing. Or so it seems...

Plus, just to further experiment, I went into my keys list and in the 'enter key combo' box I pressed the Alt key, The result was that it added an entry to my list, but the added entry shows blank... I can click it and delete, but it appears blank.

Any ideas? ?(

one more build is on the cards - I will have a look at these things - the Alt key is broken in the last build or so. PiP and alt tabbing obviously are working AFAIK - I will have a play around i supose.

by the way, your black list says direction keys aren't sent, you'd need to add alt+direction keys to blacklist them too.

Yes it's really a matter of so it seems because it's more that .NET did something funny with the alt key in my event handler :)

All these issues should be addressed in 1.3.5c (well not the PiP but I don't see how that is possibly not working ?( ).

So far so good!

Thanks so much skarlot for putting the effort into fixing these things. I downloaded the 1.3.5c build and everything is going great so far. I can Alt-Tab and my Alt key is recognized in the program. I'll be diving back in tonight to experiment further so I'll update as I progress.

Thanks again for a great program!
