View Full Version : PvP Server Mentality... Where Do You Rank?

So many times I face this inner question. I will always hesitate in this situation and survey the possible choices. If they see me and run I feel that predatory instinct boil up in my veins and I want to give chase.... but if they look at me and sigh to the fact that their demise rests in my hands... I start to think of pity.
Curious what other multiboxers on a PvP server think in this situation?

"if provoked.... except if its a fucking rogue. Rogues are KOS regardless of level"lol... true enough.

I agree with the rogue part. Too many rogues have camped me and it seems I get ganked by every one of them I see (well the good ones could just be in stealth. :) ). I'm new to PVP and took the approach of I won't bother Horde if they don't bother me but have since then learned that the Horde will pretty much make my existence miserable any chance they get. Those that I have left alone and even waved at called others to come kill my group. So, I vote for Red is Dead.

"if provoked.... except if its a fucking rogue. Rogues are KOS regardless of level"
I actually killed a rogue today .. he was in his low 50's in ST. This was the 1st time I have actually killed someone that was well below my level in a long time. But after having my alts camped by a hunter the other day I think i am going to put those guys on my KOS list as well.

Eh.. since I'm still questing, I don't bother unless provoked. Usually it's more than one lvl 70 that provokes me, and when that happens, I fight back with the lines of Brad Pitt in The Mexican going through my head..
"Give me a good reason why I shouldn't fight... If it comes to that, someone will leave here missing an ear or not being able to fuck any more. One reason, now that you let me know what you think I'm made of."
You didn't have an option for "it depends on my mood." So i chose red = dead, that seems to fit best from what you have there.
I have always been on a pvp server, so I have encountered just about every kind of pvp scenario you can think of, for the most part, it just depends on my mood.
I have attacked higher level, better geared, and when I was outnumbered just for the hell of it to see how I would do. I did that a couple days ago in Tenaris, there was a 70 lock I killed with my ( I think they where 43 at the time and was happy they where able to do it). There was also a 45 warrior there who was hanging around gawking a little too long that I blew up for the hell of it, guards killed my group, but it was fun to see him go down. I rounded the corner in mara last night and a 70 pali was escorting a 51 mage and 47 shaman comming the other direction ( my guys are 47 now) and I unloaded on him, he bubbled and survived and they killed me, but it was fun to see how that would turn out, I like testing my progress like that.
I have ganked toons that where grey to me begging and dancing to keep from getting killed just because that is kind of annoying to me, I don't have too much respect for people that show weakness like that, beg = dead. I have killed lowbies and people my level just because I wanted to see how they would die. I am not the type to camp though. Usually I will just kill and ride away, I don't emote /spit or /rofl or anything like that. I will just kill them in a cold systematic way and carry on with my business.
Sometimes I will just ride right by people who are red. Sometimes I will stand next to them when they are fighting a mob and having a hard time, and I will help them kill the mob, then let them heal, then do a /wave and kill them just because. Sometimes I will help them kill the mob /wave and ride away. Sometimes I will kill them when they are on a mob and low on hp just to save them the repair bill they would get if the mob killed them ;)
However, like the time a mage tried to gank me while I was fishing on a bridge, I spent most of the evening camping him until he spirit rezed. One time a druid ganked my rogue alt who was grinding timbermaw minding his own business and I logged my main and camped him until he logged an alt and asked me to stop, I told him ok, let him log his main again and ganked him one more time for good measure. But for the most part I don't waste my leveling time like that unless I'm in a mood to do so.
I usually have something to do, I don't really ever log in and think, ok, i got nothing to do, I'll just go to this zone and gank lowbies today, its usually something I do on my way to something else.
But ya, depends on my mood.

You didn't have an option for "it depends on my mood." Ditto.
or the option "If it gives Honor it's as good as dead" but at 70 I'm not sure if a 60 gives honor...
na, doesn't matter, i'd kill em anyway unless I had something better to do then to chase him down.... boils down to mood.

I play on a PvE server so the option rarely comes up....
However. Last night I was running my guys through a Jadenar Cave and came accross a level 51 Horde drinking. He was flagged. Then he was dead.
Didn't camp him or anything stupid like that but I kinda felt bad afterward. I mean... he didn't do anything... right? But then I got to thinking... fucker was flagged. Why was he flagged? He either flagged himself in hopes of PvP action... or he what? There is nothing to attack out in that area that would get you flagged unless it was some Alliance that was flagged.
Anywho.... bet he was thinking "WTF hit me?"

Heh, rogues are so funny now with the cheat death change.
Also I generally don't attack people. I will if they are attacking another horde or if I consider them a serious threat to me and attack me. If they attack and I don't consider them a threat usually I'll just ignore (unless it is a rogue because the chain sap/distract/etc nonsense that they pull).

I play on PVE as well, and this is my philosophy. If I see someone flagged, I assume they ganked someone of my faction, so they're toast.

I will go as far as help an ally if they look pathetic, which most do.. I have helped a group of ally do ring of blood cause I watched them wipe twice. However, I do have a list of asshats and their guilds that messed with me leveling. They are pretty much KOS. Also I was ally on my server for 2 years before rerolling horde, I founded one of the more known guilds on the server, so if I see any of them they are usually KOS too. Red is dead on the Isle without question, and I often go to the summoning stone in Hellfire and wait for Heroic teams to come by and take them out. Sometimes I laugh so hard after wiping out a Heroic team at Ramparts that my wife gives me a dirty look and comments at how evil I am. Its not that I'm evil, its just that I must fullfil my calling of bringing the Apocalypse to the Archimonde server.

When I first started on my PvP server, this being my first time PvPing where I couldn't unflag myself. I stated that, I would not bother anyone under my level, even around my level. I figure PvPing while leveling is a waste of time that could be spent getting to 70. So 10-20 no problems at all, go figure huh :P 20-30 Alot of ganking around Tarren Mill ... 30-40 range is where it all changed... My 5 man group has been killed so many times by Skulls that I can't even count how many... Now how many times my group has died from people my level and under ZERO! I guess after awhile I snapped.. and just started killing all REDs everyone of them.. even if they were way above my level.. So now.. maybe I see why I was ganked so many times by skulls. Its what you become after trying to level up and being killed so many times.. you just pass down the ganking to all the lower levels.. to get some pay back for your troubles leveling

I was on my main (70 Healadin) in westfall to run some of my alts through VC, and some 65 horde hunter keeps griefing everyone, so I go and (to my surprise) kill him, and proceed to rez my alts, and go to VC. Apparantly losing to a paladin didin't set well with this hunter, and he kept rezzing and killing my alts, over and over. I didn't even have to do much, his gear must have been crappy, cause I basically just holy shocked him to death, and bubble healed through his dmg. This went on for a while, and eventually I had like 5 alliance lowbies following me around, cheering me on. It took me a while to put him on KOS, i kinda felt bad for him, but when he wouldn't stop, I camped his ass (and got a wee bit of honor too) until I got bored, and he eventually ran away to lick his wounds.
Generally though, as a healadin, I tried to stay away from world PvP, cause I was usually a sitting duck, and could never do enough damage to kill anyone. Once I get some more dps toons however, I will be doing a bit more world PvP. I don't think i'm gonna be "if its red its dead" but if they provoke me even a bit (taking resources, etc) they are gone. 3 locks and 2 paladins should kill em quick, what with 2x HoJ, and all the DoTs? I don't think they will even get a hit off...

i KOS pretty much anything unless i'm tired. Also gnomes no matter what are KOS. I will go clean across a zone to kill it.
I normally ignore Pallys, because every one bubble hearths. But last night I found a tactic. I used drain mana x4 with my locks and by the time he realized someone was wrong he had ZERO mana. No Mana no bubble hearth? I dotted him up afterwards and continued to keep is mana pool empty and he never used his bubble. So I’m assuming this worked. Stupid Dwarfs... :P

I've actually got a routine of ganking, and it's soo popular that I have people begging to join me.
Right when I finish my sunwell dailies, I send out the invites and we "clense" the island. Doesn't matter who they are. If we can attack it, we do. In town, out of town... everything dies. We make about 3-4 passes of the island... right round the time that they've all called on their friends/guildies to help. At this time, we use our Scroll of Teleportation to avoid getting camped by 20+ alliance.
We make lots of enemies. Loads of fun.
[edit]:
Oh, almost forgot... If I'm in Gadgetzan, everything dies! Including the guards and the flight masters. I own Gadgetzan. I'm the judge, jury and executioner. I love it when people try to run away from me, and go to the [dead] flight master. Ohhhh, now what!? Muahahahaa. dead. Yeah.. you lose 150 rep each time you kill a guard. I'm almost hated in Gadgetzan.
Did I say you could talk to the Noggenfogger guy? No, I didnt. For your crimes, I sentence you to death by earth binds, frost shocks and searing totems.

i'm such a damn carebear, nothing gets me more than saving an alliance's life or those rare times you wind up helping someone of the opposing faction for a good amount of time. and let's not forget the crystal cave in the un goro crater, where nude dance parties might happen and then spontaneously turn into kill fests.
this one alliance hunter transferred and my whole guild was torn up over it, her and her friends saved my friend's life more than once. and once i found her shadowmelded in that same crystal cave where multiple horde where ganking her, i lead her out and got her spared and yet another dance fest occurred. of course "she" was probably also a weird dude RPing but....it's all good!! hahaa
then again, when i get ganked or attacked i usually retaliate in a harsh way. for example if a 70 ganks my 3 locks the next thing they see is a summoning portal popping 70 rogues out like there's no tomorrow. a 70 killed them in ashenvale and was hiding behind a tree to camp them. i summoned my main through and killed him/her a good 15 times. the message is, do not f**K with my triplets :}

I only single-box on a PVP server (Human Warlock), but, I generally:
0. Always attack people on my KoS list if it's prudent to do so. If they are guard-humping or if I'm grossly outnumbered then sometimes I'll hang out nearby and wait for them to move. I do occasionally fearbomb raids outside SSC and things like that, though. Managed to drown someone who was AFK before that way. :D
1. Don't attack if either of us are just traveling through. I won't generally dismount to gank someone grinding something I've got no interest in, nor will I jump on people who ride past me. If I've set up camp somewhere and they stop long enough for me to finish whatever pull I'm in, or start targeting me, then it's on like Donkey Kong.
2. Attack anyone competing for things I want. If I think there's a good chance of me losing the fight, and whatever I'm after isn't really competition limited I may move on and get what I need, and *then* come back and attack them. But if it looks like they are going to initiate combat then I'll jump on them first anyhow. Initiative > any other factor in a lot of cases. Especially when you can fear someone into some helpful mobs. :)
3. As a general rule I don't attack greys unless otherwise provoked. I have even on occasion "helped" them by putting seed of corruption on their mobs!

I love SoC in PVP, its so much fun. Cast it on nearby critters then just wait for fireworks!
Myself and a Paladin friend got all kinds of free kills while farming the Demon Hunters on top of BT when people would swoop in and try to gank us. Funniest one was the Rogue who shadowstep'd in about 1 second before 4 SoC's went off, then did it again 2 minutes later.

The other day, I was short 120 honor for the Honor Ring. I did not have any extra marks to hand in and I was not about to go wait 30 min in a pug, so I went to IQD and slaughtered allies until I got my 120 honor and I rolled out.
fake edit:
Most of them were gnomes.
I Feel that I am adding to the alliance's enjoyment of the game. Do unto others & all that.
If I didn't have t look over my shoulder while leveling, I would die of boredom. Killing red names & the chance that the same might be done to me adds spice to the game.
My guild MOTD for the last 6 months has been:
Do the Alliance a Favor, Give the gift of world PVP!
If a red 70 is in a zone lower than 68, i will kill & camp over & over & Over to protect my factions lowbies (Or maybe to stir up a hornets nest, not real sure here....)
IF a 70 kills my alts or alts of my friends
If they are gnomes of any sort.
Other than that I will just 1shot lowbies as Im passing by & move on. They should have been watching their 6.

If they're low, I just scare the crap out of them. On my priest I loved playing with Mind Control. MC them, then fort them, and their health goes down and they freak out... then put a low rank of SW:P on them so they start to die... then MC them again and renew or prayer of mending them... just keep effing with them like that...
Me and 2 other priests once MCed a 60 gnome rogue (at 60) into Thrall's room... we'd take turns MCing him while the other two healed/regened mana. He had to corpse run like 3 times to get out. (he wasn't about to spirit rez, he was in T2 with TF lol)
I wish every group of 5 I made could have a priest... just for MC shenanigans lol.

"if provoked.... except if its a fucking rogue. Rogues are KOS regardless of level"I multibox three rogues, i was thinking about this the other day
How great would it be to gank a lowbie, in stv for ~9k dmg of ambushing power.
Or even a fellow 70 trying to protect a lowbie, Shadowstep, 3x ambush, dead.. then /lol at twink and ss him in the face.
Oh the possiblities i will have.

Ive had to joy of questing in Hillsbrad for the past day or two and I have a habit of targetting any alliance without checking their level...there was a shaman standing outside my LOS and I could see the red name but not the shaman themself and I targetted etc and it was a ?? level so figured it could of been a 30 something going to SM and as I ran around only 1 of my earth shocks hit and then I realised the S3 shoulders!
Luckily they were afk so I quickly ghostwolfed and ran away :D Hopefully this explains my mentallity.

I usually go about it like this.
S3 or higher toon = KoS
multiple players, especially if S2 or higher = KoS (had my first go at some halaa PvP and was absolutely amazed I managed to take out a lvl 70 Hunter S2, a warrior full S3 and a mage (coudn't tell what Season, but definitely had very high Hp) on my little lvl 66s :) (one of em wasn't rly doing anything either ^^ (silly melee pallies)
Random alli that is overwhelmed by fear but simultaneous curiosity = /pat (and I usually pop my macro that uses my trinkets and EM and LB (rank 1 LB).. U can just see the looks on their faces..
wait.. what the.. OMG noo.. run away!!!.. *closes eyes*.. *peaks out of one eye to see if the PC is still standing* .. *notices only around 500 hp gone* .. *gains unquestionable admiration for multiboxer and kneels infront of him/her* (as long as you kneel just after launching ur attack :P )

I tried last night to just do some questing in the badlands and wanted to see if I could take out the lvl50 elite named dragons for the quest.
Well after clearing out some baby drakes on the way to the elites I came across 2 NE hunters, one 54 and the other 42. They were killing some stuff so i decided not to rogue-style gank them and just ran right by them.
Well I thought it would be that easy. I see in my combat spam that the hunters gained cheetah apects and the fact that it showed up told me they were closing on me. I position my group to face back in the direction I had come and sure enough they cross over the apex of the hill i was near and now starts the stare-down. After about 5 seconds I'm like the hell with this. Elemental mastery pops and in go the chain-lightning into the lvl 54.
That 54 had some health i tell ya. It took like four salvos to burn him down but he went down and then the other hunter who backed out just before it started comes up to die.
I love these experiences, they tell me I need to further upgrade my gear but they only got my paly and one of my shaman past 40%.
Only thing I wish I had done was make my BE paly dance during the fight since he didn't do jack anyway.

i play on a pve server but im one of thise red is dead people, played alliance for 2 years then switched to horde, and got to say ally on my server are so childish, so many times they attack xroads then run when 70's arrive, annoys meso much that i just became a cold hearthed person and kill everything that I can. i never camp though unless he/she really annoyed me (usually by doing /spit emote, really hate that emote >_<)

killed a dude 3 times while he and me was questing the same place, where there came some 70 or ?? hehe, and wooped my ass 8)
I have a well maintained KOS list and I generally let people add themselves to it before I attack them. There are several ways to get added.
Ganking or camping any of my friends or guild mates
Using terrain exploits to gank
Random sapping
Random sheeping
Fear bombing
Interferring when I'm killing someone on my KOS
Tough talking on the forums
Alts if I find out about them and I try to find out peoples alts when I add them
If a ganking raid takes me down and doesn't move along fast enough, added ;)
Generally I don't bother anyone unless they do one of the above.
