Haven't been around much in the last two days except my laptop because my comp died.

I rebuilt a new comp, very nice etc, but I cant find the vista x64 discs that came with my other computer. I dont wanna use the 32bit discs I have , as i like running 64bit much better since im using 8gigs of ram.

I was wondering if anyone had a x64 disc I could borrow, or burn me a copy?

Well, I'd hate to send it to ya and prolly lose it on the postal way... the chances are high... I think. But I could burn it though.... however, I'm not sure, if that's legal...

Anyway, can I use a key from a 32 bit edition for a 64 bit edition?

Depending on the version of vista (OEM or Retail) you might not be able to use a 64 bit key. Retail copies work fine either way, but the OEM ones are tied to the specific version.

I've used a OEM Dell key on a downloaded 64-bit installation of Vista. Works fine. Even student-license keys work on both versions.

Where did you download it though? I can't find a secure source.

Ill use a torrent if you can give me a secure link that works 100%

You can request a 64-bit DVD from Microsoft if you have the 32-bit key.

This might be a be a n00b question, but. Do you need different Hardware to run the x64 vista? I have Vista 32 now and I got 4gigs of ram just sitting there on my desk.

Hardware requirements are the same - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/system-requirements.aspx

The OEM / retail / volume licensing keys are all different. As are the 32-bit and 64-bit keys.

Hardware is the same, but you NEED a 64 bit processor to use it.

First part might be true (although not in my experience) but 32-bit keys do work on 64-bit installs. Unless you have some very specific key. I've re-installed several pc's that were shipped with 32-bit; installed 64-bit version and used the same key. I've used keys ranging from Dell to student-licenses.

If you're in the EU I can send you a disk.

Do take note of the the atikmdag/nvlddmkm errors Vista 64 might throw at you.
The only way I've been able to "fix" it was by disabling my secondary screen.

Well we're not exchanging keys or anything. And you basically pay for the key, not the physical disc ;) Worst case scenario we're screwed MS out of the (shipping) cost of a 64-bit install disc. Meh.

They could answer the question asked though :) I'm kinda curious, will ANY key for any version of Vista work on both 32-bit and 64-bit installs? In my experience so far, it will work.
