Activision Blizzard...

Activision bought out Vivendi, which owns Blizzard wholly. The new company's called Activision Blizzard, with Activison at the helm, but with Vivendi shareholders having a just over 50% of the shares.

In other news, EA has been wtfpwned.

I think of it more as a merger... but with vivedeni owning the majority of the shares and the reason they have so much money is because of blizzard... yeah.. blizzard eats all.

yay, thx. hope that wasn't sarcasm. when we overtook EA in sales this year i assumed that we'd start accruing bad rep as the new 'death star' in the industry. now that we mated with vivendi we are ridonkulously huge. that said, atvi has always made much more of an effort to foster its studios individuality, which has clearly proven profitable, so i don't think that will change. i can only hope that some of blizzard's 'we ship no game until its time' culture trickles over to us, since i would looove to have their schedules.

also worth noting that all the other vivendi entertainment brands may get a chance at rejuvenation under activision. still have a warm place in my heart for a lot of those old sierra licenses especially.

leisure suit larry and the world of loungecraft, anyone?

I thought Blizz was merging with Activision and Blizz/Vivendi would be the one "on top"...but from what I read on the news sites at work today it's vice versa..Activision bought Vivendi.

As stated in their press release it is a "merger" and one they state as a mutual merger, to strengthen the growth of both companys and there game development abilities.

One link to a Press Release http://www.vivendi.com/corp/en/press_2007/documents/PR071202SegoSnow.pdf ('http://www.vivendi.com/corp/en/press_2007/documents/PR071202SegoSnow.pdf')

As in the press release above, there will likely be no major affects to the current affairs of both companies only to affect things to come.

In the end, you have 2 very, very profitible companies merging into one single entity, instantly making them worth a cool 4.8 billion bucks more than EA.

Some of the stuff that amazes me is comparing the $$ these companies make. EA for example, made 4.02 billion last fiscal year, roughly 339 million profit. Activision, while reporting "only" 2.9 billion during the same time, made a profit of 344.9 million. Make a billion less than the largest competitor yet take home more money? Someone's doing something going right for them.

On the other hand, Blizzard made just over 1 billion last fiscal year (no idea on profit), yet they have only released 1 game and 1 expansion pack since 2004.

Mow the merger of these two? Yeah, I am glad i got plenty of stock in this new company.

This will be good , maybe both of them together will make WoW live on and not die down after WoTLK like i thought it would.

I don't really care which way bought out what in what form, just as long as the Blizzard development team continues to put out outstanding games.
