So I have noticed several people mention in the "banned" posts that in a lot of these situations a questionable ban will stick because of an account name issue (i.e. its not your name on the account). So I am a little concerned and was hoping some of you guru’s could shed some light on this for me. Before I started boxing I had 2 accounts. My original second account got banned when it was hacked. At the time I was concerned that someone had my personal information. So after the account got banned I bought another copy of the game and re-setup my 2nd account. Because of my personal information concern I put for the first name on the account my middle name (not horribly original I know). All of my other accounts have the same information. This one just has a different first name. So, if I were to get into trouble do you think that would cause any problems? If so is there a way to correct it without getting an account ban?

Thanks

I would call Blizzard and have it sorted out now. Be proactive about it. If you ever get banned incorrectly in the future, this will be one less thing to worry about. You may have to jump through some hoops (like faxing in copies of birth certificates or something) but you should be fine.

But yes, you want your names on all your accounts to match EXACTLY. They wouldn't know if the other name was your middle name or brother's name, for example.

Ok so forgive my paranoia but would I get in trouble or a temp ban for even calling about the issue? If not should I just call and say hey I need to correct an problem with my account information?

Thanks

I wouldn't think so. If it really is your middle name and you are able to prove it is, I can't see why you would get in trouble for what you did. I would expect the same thing if someone used a nick-name (i.e Robert and Bob). But to be upfront, I don't have any actual experience with this so maybe someone else can chime in with more concerte info.

I wouldn't think so. If it really is your middle name and you are able to prove it is, I can't see why you would get in trouble for what you did.

If your last name matches, and you can prove that the first name on the account is indeed your legal middle name, Blizzard is likely to believe you.

The people who have little to no hope of success from using false names are the ones who can't prove that the name is, indeed, false. Such as "Joe Smith" -- Blizzard isn't going to assume that you own Joe Smith's account just because you say so. But if, for example, you used "Santa Claus", they might just roll their eyes and accomodate you.

Regardless, make sure not to use fake names in the future. The EULA/ToU clearly states that if you do not use REAL personal information the terms/eula is considered null and void and Blizzard does not have to honor their half of it (providing access to the WoW servers).

I did the EXACT same thing as you. I called customer service, and they faxed me an affidavit that I had to get notarized. It stated my full, and my request to change the account holder name to my true First+Last.

Faxed it back with a copy of my drivers license, 7 days later the change showed on the account admin site. Done.
