View Full Version : DDoS threat against dual-boxing.com in Multiboxing QQ thread

Anyone else see this? If by chance this site does get DDoS's might want to make note of this person that posted. The people he refers to are evil ones and do this kind of thing so I imagine it isn't just an empty threat. I reported the thread to blizzard and perhaps others should as well.

DDOS attacks are against Federal Law. Ellay, if I were you, I would do the following, to protect yourself:
Contact the GMs in the CSF forums and see who to talk to, regarding that poster. He needs to lose his posting rights permanently. Even if he's just running his mouth, and I suspect he is, it's still illegal to make threats like that.
Take screenshots of that post, and send them with some background info to your hosting company, so they're aware.
IF there's a DDOS attack, then the hosting company and Blizzard can file accessory charges against the person who posted that.
I'm all for flame wars, but when you start making real world posts, then you need to be shown the error of your ways in a very real, harsh way, like the Feds showing up at your door early in the morning with a subpeona for your hard drive, and nice shiny handcuffs.
It's probably hot air from some antisocial teenager who idolizes the group he mentioned, but, you never know. I have ZERO tolerance for threats, in real life, and online. You want to start throwing the word lawyer around, fine, here's the number for mine. In my line of work, I've had to use lawyers many times to protect my interests, and I havent lost yet. Call to cops? Here's my cell phone, call 'em.
Going to threaten a DDOS attack? Go for it, and then enjoy your stay at Club Fed - I hope it was worth it!

The irony - Multiboxers are terrible cheats.
So let's break the law to stop them.

Wiki ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack')
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted, malevolent efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet') site ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Website') or service ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_service') from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.
Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even DNS root servers ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNS_root_servers').
One common method of attack involves saturating the target (victim) machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consume its resources ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource_%28computer_science%29') so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.
Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Architecture_Board')'s Internet proper use policy ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_ethics'). They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_crime#Applicable_laws').[1] ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack#cite_note-SANS-0')

myg0t. Haven't thought of them in awhile. Douchebag hacker group that destroys multiplayer games by widely distributing cheats - especially in FPS games of the past..
It's probably an empty threat and this idiot has no connection with them at all, but it's a threat worth making this guy suffer for.

I have to give the OP credit in that thread. He was better than most anti-multiboxing rants. I don't think he deserved the flames he got (although, I could only stomach to page 4 or so).
Anti-multiboxers are certainly entitled to their opinion and he recognized that boxing is legal, actually wrote coherent paragraphs and tried to offer some middle ground solutions. MUCH better than most. Even if I disagree.

Exactly - what do you think the odds are of a continuing successful WoW career if he has to explain to Mommy and Daddy why their internet account was closed, and the Feds were at the door wanting to take their son and his computers - and possibly theirs - away?
Or getting to find a new apartment when the landlords throw him out because they don't want tenants who have the Feds showing up?
What would be REALLY funny is if the mouthbreather posted from work - then he gets to sit down with his boss and explain why the IT department got a call from a Federal Agent asking who was posting from their IP. Oops!

intense. i was just going to post on this. the server this poster is on does not seem to be U.S. or Oceanic, but I may be wrong. I was about to make a toon on there...but i could not access it.
i will also report this, blizzard probably couldn't do anything about it but it WILL be a help if any attacks are made on the boards.

I also find it very ironic that someone would ask a known hacker/cheater group to punish another group for what the complainer calls 'cheating.' Anyone else see the irony in this? :)
When would myg0t ever try to enforce a developer's rules? Lollerfuckinskates.

Shame. I would've reported him to Blizzard -- I'm pretty sure they don't take threats against other folks kindly, particularly when they're illegal.
That being said, I've had to deal with DOS attacks on my website ('http://vboxing.net/blog/webs.php?title=first-dos-attack-and-more-hardware&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1') in the past.

I only listen to the first couple minutes, probably listen to the rest later, but at the start didn't he say like "some people like it, some people hate it like me, and some people don't know about it".
Edit: he said "against" not "hate"

It's difficult to tell if he's asking questions for the lowest common denominator listener (probably) or he's just ignorant. The "downloading packs of macros leading to automation" question had me scratching my head.

By the time I reported the post, the bio-hazard symbol was already gray. Which means that he probably got a lot more attention than he intended to.
Simplest thing to do would've been to remind him that he was talking about committing a federal crime. Many times they will publicly laugh it off as if to show that they're not scared, but they won't dare to actually do anything. Young kids don't always recognize how certain lines, even when not used with serious intent, are going to be taken very seriously.

I mean really, we are the closest things myg0t has to "brothers in arms" We both have similar goals, to make people QQ on the internet.

I actually know someone who posted crap like that on another clan's boards from work and he got canned. Having defended multiple sites from DDOS attacks in my careear it is a lot of hard work and usually a lot of money spent or lost and most importantly my time. The FEDs take threats like that very seriously and actually prosecute them pretty aggressively, at least in my experience. That to the Patriot act you can also attach a "terrorist" label to threats like that and get some one put away for a long time.

It is blocked... something about malicious code...
Reported Attack Site!
This web site at www.wcradio.com has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Attack sites try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.
Some attack sites intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.
There was a button that said "Why was this site blocked" or something to that effect and it led me to THIS PAGE ('http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?client=Firefox&hl=en-US&site=http://www.wcradio.com/archive/Octale%26Hordak/wow-OnHVW-04272008.mp3') .... interesting.
Anyone have a clue what went on there?

From wcradio's main page:
WCRadio hacked? Hosting Malware?
Wednesday, July 9th 2008 by TotalBiscuit
As many of you will have noticed, specifically those using Firefox 3 or getting here via Google, WoW Radio has been flagged as an 'attack' site. Basically what happened was, a hacker attempted to insert malicious code into our forums sometime last week. He was quickly headed off and as far as we know, nobody was infected. However, in a stroke of fabulous bad luck, Google was scanning our site at the time for malware, as they do every now and again, and flagged us. We can assure you that there are NO trojans or malicious software on our site at all, and we have already submitting a petition to Google for removal from their blacklist. Until that is approved, we ask for your patience. The attack message can be bypassed by using another browser or previous version of Firefox. Please let your friends know what has happened, and thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter.
If you wish to turn this warning off, you can go to your Firefox 3 settings under Tools > Options > Security and turn off 'tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site'

That they have morons also making threats of DDOS attacks over it only makes them look that much worse, especially in Blizzard's eyes.
What would be AWESOME beyond belief is if they force Blizzard's hand to legitimize MBing more, in official ways, like putting in the UELA and TOS that it's allowed. This is not an issue that's under debate, Blizzard has spoken on the issue, and I could see them doing that to end the issue once and for all.
I know, it's a dream, but damn it, it's mine! :)
