Hi all,

I started experimenting for a while with my girlfriends and my own account in leveling together using various software setups basicly by using 2 computers with a shared imput device (KVM). But at time my intrest in WOW was quite low and Age of Conan was about to release so my expierence ended there. Age of Conan required a brand new computer but after 2 months I decided this game was a waste of time and yesterday I returned to WOW. But it wasn't the vanilla-wow (1box) that brought me back. Since I had a brand new machine left over from AOC I could now run multiple instances of wow on a single machine. So I went to the store bought 2 accounts so I could play without my girlfriend interfearing when she wanted to play her own account ;) .

FINANCIAL TIP:
Before registering a fresh account.
1. Go on your main account management.
2. Send out a trial invitation to your own e-mail address
3. Create new 10 day trial account.
4. Go on your trial account management.
5. Upgrade into an existing account (wow classic key).
6. Upgrade into an expansion account (wow tbc key).

Gained:
- 10 days free time (trial), but with TBC access.
- 30 days free game time on your main account if you start paying for your new accounts. So here I am, playing with 3 shamies (only level 3 :D ).

I enjoy the setup and out of the vanilla-wow box thinking but still looking for a few software sollutions. Been experimenting a bit and after watching a friend showing me a demo with his keyclone and I think i'm going to give it a try as well.

So far I encountered 2 problems:

- Looting questitems / using gameworld items / interacting with npc's. In general, everything that involves mouse imput. This is one of the standard issues I read on these boards so far.

- The second one concerns my screenlayout. I have 1 big (main) window on the left side and 2 small windows up on the right side of my screen. I want to use [a low resolution / less video detail / diffrent interface and addons] on the smaller screens. I was brainstorming this morning and thought: Would it work if I made a seperate WOW folder with other settings? And if so, would keyclone still work for instances of wow started from diffrent folders?

Anyway, it's nice to be on these forums. Seen a lot of info and expierence shared here. Will try to contribute myself if I can :)

Hi Care, and welcome to our little corner of the world. Congratulations on getting yourself up and running - we all like to help those who can help themselves :)

Yes!

This is pretty much the standard MO for sharing instances on a single machine - one copy for the main, and one copy for however many drones you have.

KC will either launch WoW for you (and position the windows), in which case you just have to tell it to launch from your drone directory, or it will add applications by window name. Either way, it's entirely agnostic as to where the executable comes from.

There's anecdotal evidence that running more than one WoW from a single directory may cause any one of a number of reported problems, but I've been running that way for the past 6 months, with both XP and Vista, and haven't had a problem yet.

One of the other big advantages of having separate "main" and "drone" installations is that you can still easily play any of your characters solo, on your "main" installation, because key bindings are instance-specific. If you use macros for all your spells, as many do for some reason, that gain if offset, but it's still a consideration for some of us.

Enjoy :)

Hi all,

Please tell me you're going to not use her account for multiboxing. People are getting banned for "account sharing" if you're caught multiboxing with different names on accounts. You can count on many people /reporting you for 'hacking/botting,' and when a GM looks into it, you better have all accounts in your name.

1. Yes, a lot of mouse input is required, but looking at the WoW UI API, there are a few commands available in NPC interaction - Getting quests, turning in quests, accepting quest rewards, and possibly repairing armor.. so you *should* be able to write macros to handle all your alts in doing most NPC work.
2. Many swear by KeyClone and it does have the feature to set up WoW windows like you describe. I use the Maximizer program to do the job though - it's apparantly more difficult to set up than using KeyClone, but I found it first and works for me. Yes, you can use a copy of the entire WoW folder for other accounts to have different visual settings - that's what I do. I use 5 copies, but I'm considering trimming it down to just 2.

Smart call on not using her account.
Did you do refer a friend. That would have got your account a free 30 day pass too.

Hiya,

Yes, and as mentioned, it's pretty much the defacto setup now. The best scenario, actually, is to create a "linked" directory which mirrors your primary directory. You can search for information on why this is better, and this ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=6750') thread shows you how to do it.

good luck
