So I took the plunge and made 4 warlocks:

1. Wahid
2. Ithnain
3. Thalatha
4. Arbaa

I'm going full affliction here. While I'm only up to level 18 now, I have a few pointers for casters .

Probably the two most important things you can buy for your new characters are:
1. bags. Tons of bag space is important, because the longer you can stay out the more time you can spend doing xp.
2. wands. Early on, wands are a fair % as strong as a spell itself. They cost no mana and you can get them as early as level 5. With 4 guys using wands, I can toss 4 dots and wand things to death. That lets me go without mana going down at all.

Warlocks in particular and why I chose them. Well, they're easy. By level 14 you have 2 instant dots and a pet that taunts. Occasionally I've had a mob run off and pull back 6 or 7 mobs. I just get void walker on each one in turn throw a set of curses on each one and fear at random. As long as the damage is spread around I've handled 7-8 mobs 1-3 levels above me at once.

My personal goal is PvP. I want to hit Alterac Valley and toss seed of corruption and volleys of dots all over the place. I'm vaguely thinking of what 4 felguards would do and I might try that pending some gear acquisition.

If I had a 5th. Personally, I think a druid would be the perfect 5th to keep regens going for life taps and do emergency healing, also to stay stealthed until the fight breaks out. I happen to have a priest 70 though, and I'm thinking of just going for broke and adding him as a shadow priest. A little mind flay would be nasty.

I've already had some world PvP where a warrior or two thought being 10 levels above me made him safe. He one shotted two of my guys but it was all over by then as he had 10 dots going on him.

In short, it's been a blast so far. I'm about to hit 20 and I've got a buddy on his warrior to boost me to 40 without leaving Scarlet Monastery, so things are looking good.

It is not that easy to drop dots left and right or spam SoC. Most of the time you will be fighting against heavy melee characters. I have 3 warlocks at lvl 70 geared in S2/3/4 items, but one single rogue is capable to kill whole team. If warlock wasnt my first character back when I started wow, I would go with mages for av fun. burst dmg > dot dmg. I got personal healer sometimes and it is blast, I kill everything what comes to my way, but most of the time I am ending with chasing lone players and taking/defending bunkers.

i dont know how much u know about locks, but u need not buy any food or water. all u do is spec affliciton, get improved drains so they have a rare chance to be interrupted, dot once(therefore casting 4 total dots) life tap, drain life. rinse repeat. u can literally go for hours on end just a tip. like i said i dont know how much u know about locks so im not sure if u knew u could do this. also u r absolutely right about the wands, id contend with 4 pets u wouldnt even have to dot, just /petattack /use wand and theyd die before they got to u.

as for pvping, affliction would be a good choice, be sure to get the increased range on dots of course if u do go with felguards since they will rape casters by themselves. i could only imagine 4 locks standing on the road tossing up simultaneous dots >< insta corruption followed by SL, then curse of agony x 4? gtfo lol thats gonna suck to be on the receiving end

I've played a lock to 70, so I'm pretty familiar. My comment about water was mostly directed at casters in general. I have found occasion to need to drink though as sometimes it is helpful to just spam shadow bolt to clear a path through a lot of mobs. I also think sometimes warlocks worry too much about balancing that line of never having to drink. Sometimes you want to burn a little hotter and run the mana a bit low.

I just hit 18 and life tap/drain life definitely works out. I don't have siphon life yet.

I mention demonology for 50+ because it is so much more forgiving on gear. Once I pick up a few BG items I'll probably go back to affliction.

Things I'm looking forward to:
Killing a priest dispelling 2 unstable afflictions at once (or mass dispelling lots of them at once).
4 Seeds of corruption, perhaps against the alliance attacking galv.
