View Full Version : Why do Heroics?

I see people that say heroics are hard. I wonder why they do them. I thougth it was supposed to be do normals until you get bored of them or severly outgear the place, then go to place that is harder, like heroics. I thought Blizzard derliberately made them harder than normal to give you a place to graduate up to. But people come here and say, they are hard. Well, duh. Why not just go do normals around your level or something? I don't complain that I can't do Uldaman with lvl 20 gear, so why not just do normals until you outgear the place? I am not pissed, just wondering what people are thinking, leveling up all the way to 70 and then can't figure out why a place that is designed to be too hard, is too hard.

Well, I can't speak for others, but this is my approach to Heroics:
1) Get to 70. Currently 68 (and a half).
2) Gear up - using normal instances, crafted gear, and some pvp gear if needed.
3) Once my gear reaches an appropriate level, run Heroics for badges, badges, badges... hehe.
I'm thinking as close to +1000 spell damage as possible, 6,000+ armor, 8,000+ health before Step 3.

Heroics are not hard ding 70 and go get the reputation gear that was added in 2.3 or 2.4 i forget... then go slaughter them. The badge gear is amazing that's why people do them and it's easy to make $$

I believe the best can do it in the pvp blues. I couldn't, I knew I couldn't so I didn't even try.
I followed Kicksome's video guide for farming Totem of the Void and after hitting 70 a couple weeks ago with just 3 pieces of the pvp rep blues I was able to successfully make it in Mech to the chest, I had under 400 spell damage each and had some deaths and wipes along the way but I was impressed at how much abuse the shaman can take especially in the high stam pvp stuff.

You don't need all of that look at my armory link in my sig that's my current gear and I absolutely butcher the place. You can pull it off with 6-7k health 5-8k armor, and 400-500 spell damage.

Whats wrong with things being hard? I think a lot of people are here to attempt difficult things. The biggest thing, as others in the thread have said, is gear. If a heroic is too difficult for you then switch heroics, do some arena/bg and get some pvp/badge gear.

Good to hear. I'm already at 350 spell damage - the pvp mace I plan on getting should pump that up to 550 or so. Health and armour need a little work, but not much if I can do it with 6-7k health and 5k armour.

Whats your strat on the dragon in ramps, the rest is easy, but she rocks my guys :( Closest I have gotten her so far is 9% I run 4 shamans full S2 and a druid healer at 1500 healing. WIth S2 gear I'm just under 10k health, 900 spell dmg without totem down, and 12k armor. I have tried fire resist pots, spreading my guys out so on.

Use 4 grounding (drop wrath of air if you are using it)
Park your guys on the side of the bridge furthest from the boss.
Pull the 2 guards back to your pack (earthbind makes it easy of course).
Kill them
>At this point Vaz should be spawned but not aggroed to you, the dragon may be (I forget but it doesn't really matter).
Lay down grounding totems and move foward, not too fast you don't want to outrun your totems
You can move onto the main platform but stay out of normal aggro range for Vaz.
Whenever Nazan comes in range just nuke him down.
At 30% he will land, make sure you keep groundings up and keep a FR totem up.
When he breaths on your move your guys out of the fire.
Kill Nazan.
Kill Vaz (he is easy without the dragon)

Thats the same strategy I use and it works exceptionally well. Though you should also drop Tremor totems as the dragon will do 1-2 fears during the fight. As soon as the dragon lands I drop all Earth Elementals to pickup the rider and they will also aggro the dragon.
Sometimes the rider will de-spawn and bug the fight. This happened to me a few times, and sometimes the 2 mobs that start the event will not respawn. When this happens you have to zone out, wait 35 minutes and zone back in. And ofcause the entire instance has repopped - with the exception of the bosses.

Hmm, it could have just been chance but he only seemed to fear when I did it the original way of running in an aggroing both the dragon and rider. When I killed him first he never feared. I'll chalk that up to luck though as it isn't hard to keep tremors up and could prevent a wipe.

There's a relatively minor but highly important point to be made with regards to running heroics:
You don't need to run the entire instances to get a good many badges per day!
Toned can tell you how he did it before being all uberified like he is now. ;)
