Easy. I pulled this together for one of my anniversaries....
1. Call one of her friends and convince them to call your wife and take her shopping for a couple hours. If she has no friends, buy her a giftcard and send per packing.
2. Buy a table cloth, 2 candlesticks with candles. Table cloth from anywhere, keep receipt to return the next day. Candle things from dollar store, or also buy expensive and return next day (Yes, I returned half burnt candles to Linens N Things).
3. Buy a bag of Rose Petals. Sprinkle on floor, around table or make a path leading to the table. whatever.
4. Here is where you can get creative. Buy some sort of frozen TV dinner or other combination of frozen dinners to make whatever she likes. Put them in the microwave to cook and then scoop the stuff onto plates, timing this about when she gets home (coordinate with her friend, or just ask her to call you as she's leaving the mall if she went solo). I have never done this, as I'm an accomplished cook, but this is an option for those who are non-cookers.
5. Crack a bottle of wine, whether you drink wine or not (if you don't drink at all, get a spritzer or something).
6. Where nice clothes or a suit.
Plan some simple after-supper activity, like a walk outside or something.
This isn't the stuff memories are made of, but it'll get you through the event, hopefully.

unless she is a gamer, then run to Best Buy and get her a new PC game or a N52

Just to make you feel even worse: It's my 5th anniversary today :)
Our son is being looked after by his grandmother while we stay the night in a 5 star hotel overlooking sydney harbour. We'll be met with rose petals in the room, canapes and a bottle of french champagne. For dinner we're going to aria restaurant, also on sydney harbour.
I'm not allowed to forget anything, for 1 month prior to today, my wife asked everyday: what are we doing?
So it's definitely your wifes fault

I've only been married for 5 months, but I planned ahead. I made sure our engagement date, and wedding date were on the same day as our first date, so I have a 3 for 1 shot at remembering the day. It also happened to be on a minor holiday (Groundhog Day) so that helps.
My wife doesn't play WoW, but if she did, I'd suggest a mock wedding in game...

I took my ex to Vegas and got her a nice suite a the Bellagio overlooking the water show for the weekend for our 10th. Most money I ever paid to be miserable for a weekend. She just wanted to stay in the room and watch tv, not have sex, just watch tv. She didn't want to gamble or go to a show or go out and eat because there where too many people and the lines where too long, etc. She told me to go have fun, and then got pissed because I left her in the room for a couple hours while I was out having fun. A short time later we where filing for divorce. Turns out her lawyer friend recommended she stick with it until after the 10 year mark so she would get more stuff in the divorce, which she did. Yippee for California divorce laws.
Happy Anniversary! Have fun! :D

This isn't the stuff memories are made of, but it'll get you through the event, hopefully.I disagree. This IS the stuff memories are made of. My wife's favorite birthday was when I took her to the park and had a picnic made for her. It's the simple things in life. Really. :)
