View Full Version : dual boxing with a shadow priest/warlock
Tomarrow I'm gonna start dual boxingon wow for the first time. I've got everything set up. Just waiting for my wow copy to reach my postbox =).
Theres only one problem. I cant decide which char I should use as my main. Right now I'm thinking that warlock would be best as a main while grinding. But the priest would be best while doing instances. I could be wrong however. Like I said I've never dual boxed wow before. I plan on doing a lot of quest grinding and instances so I cant decide.
Anyone willing to give me some pros and cons would be great. if someone who has dual boxed this setup could give me some feedback that would be great.
Thanks!
edit: if anyone has any usefull macros for this combo that would also be hugely appriciated =).

i am setting up the same thing...
basicly looking at spells i decided to go w/ the Spriest as my main
reasoning: some spells can be cast while moving others cant ....also all my cooldowns (ie mind blast) and cast times are longer on the shadow priest (ie flay is 3 sec ...no warlock spell is 3 sec w/ bane)
So the lock might sit idle for .5 sec after he does his bolt but that is better than the alternitive of burning extra mana on the priest starting a new flay early. also the 6 sec cool down 1.5 sec cast on mind blast doesnt match any lock spell nicely but basicly what i have come up w/ is :
priest
1) MB
2) pain
3) flay
4) VE
5) VT
6) death
7)aoe fear
lock
1) UA
2) corrup
3) bolt or curse of shadows...havent decided yet
4) siph
5) immol
6) shadow burn ......i am a little concerned about this as the priest needs the killing blow to not get backlash...we wil see how this works
8) aoe fear
w/ the standard mob they should be dead by sequence 1-2-3-6 or a 1-5-2-3/6 in reality
we will see i still need to test this. guesss it depends on your locks spec too ...my lock is afflic 41/20 destruc w/ 998 shadow damage ...in mostly epics i dont want him having the repair bill :p

If you're determined to make the Priest a DPSer, even in group instances, then it doesn't make much difference. DPS is DPS, and there are alot of synergies between the 'lock and Priest that makes it easy for them to work together.
However.... the reality is that I reckon you'll find yourself healing in some instances, no matter how much you protest, and for that you really want your Priest to be the main purely for situational awareness and nice mouse-over healing macros.
So, personally, I would choose the Priest as main, but not for the reasons cited by fearing because they're all solvable :)

ok, thanks both of you for the lenghthy posts =).
I'm planning on doing a lot of instances with them. And ultimatly the priest will be a healer for my guild when I hit 70. I'f I'm lucky I might be allowed to dual box them in kara but I doubt it.
I think I'll go with the priest as main then. The only problem I was thinking of was pet actions. But I figured that could easily be solved with macroing. Besides only need 3-4 actions. Attack, follow and 1-2 pet specific actions.

Assuming you use key broadcasting of some sort (I wouldn't consider doing it any other way, personally), pet actions are invoked just the same as if you were playing the 'lock as your main.
The keys bound to pet actions (CTRL-1, etc) will be ignored by your Priest - unless you bind them specifically to something of course - but the Warlock will still respond.
I do actually use a pet attack macro for my Warlocks though, because I often want to off-tank something with a Voidy, and it's handy being able to manage that through a focus target.
Good luck with your team - I reckon you've made a great choice of combination there.

Keep in mind that unless you disable the option in the client options, an action won't be interupted by hitting it again.

I do a two-box team as a lock and priest. They are at 69 now. (70 soonish)..
Just to give you an idea of my setup (Pick and choose)...
I run the warlock as my main.. Why? Just happens to be that way. Healing is way too easy with clique and grid. My priest is currently shadow (And plan to stay that way). I dont broadcast keys. I use two layers on an nostromo N52 (Using the D-Pad to momentary toggle different layers).. Normal controls the lock, shift green state controls the priest.
Macros:
A few macros that I use:
*Note: The healing macros target like this.
If my warlock is targeting a friendly, heal that.
If my warlock is targeting a enemy, heal enemy's target.
