View Full Version : New multiboxer - have I tainted my accounts?

So I'm a relatively new multiboxer rolling 4 shaman. Been reading arund the forums and wiki for a few weeks and really glad I found this community.
My shaman are 61 at the moment. I boosted my toons to about 45 a couple weeks ago with "my" mage. I've read the forums and understand all the accounts have to be in the same name. Well the shaman are - they're all new accounts. However, I was careless - I wasn't even thinking that I traded accounts with a friend about a year ago and the mage (although "mine" at this point) still isn't in my name.
Realizing my mistake, I wonder if I've now "tainted" the accounts. Granted I'm done boosting and they aren't associated with the mage anymore, but gosh, if I'm about to invest more time into them, is it possible to get banned awhile later? My main fear now is putting months into these guys only to have some late investigation take place and have them all banned one day because of the mage. Should I just start over?

The mage is and never will be "yours".

8. Ownership/Selling of the Account or Virtual Items.
Blizzard does not recognize the transfer of Accounts. You may not purchase, sell, gift or trade any Account, or offer to purchase, sell, gift or trade any Account, and any such attempt shall be null and void. Blizzard owns, has licensed, or otherwise has rights to all of the content that appears in the Program. You agree that you have no right or title in or to any such content, including the virtual goods or currency appearing or originating in the Game, or any other attributes associated with the Account or stored on the Service. Blizzard does not recognize any virtual property transfers executed outside of the Game or the purported sale, gift or trade in the "real world" of anything related to the Game. Accordingly, you may not sell items for "real" money or otherwise exchange items for value outside of the Game.
The accounts in your name should be safe, as you are not account sharing on them. You may still get banned (because they cannot tell who is behind the account), but you should be able to contact account administration and get the accounts that are in your name returned to you after showing proof of account ownership.
As for your friend's account (including your FRIEND'S mage, regardless of how it was leveled) -- I suggest you stop playing on it.

If all the chars you activly multibox with now is in your name, and you have stopped using your friends account, I would think you are relativliy safe. Bot ofcoarse I could not say this for sure. But I highly doubt that they will check into logs with whom you boosted your shammys.

.
I'm aware of the policy, that's why I put "mine" in quotes.

Thanks.. yeah I hope they are safe. As for the mage, I don't really play him much anymore, I mostly brought him out for the boosting.
Like I said, I know it was definitely a mistake, yes the mage isn't mine technically, but I'm just afraid of somewhere down the line all this being linked togerher, with such a big time investment. I'm curious to hear a real story of someone being banned for boosting with another account and whether it was a quick automated thing or awhile later

i am afraid if blizzard ever does find it out that they can ban your mage (and possible the rest) since you don't have the same names in the account creation
a friend of mine and her husband both played wow, they played eachother accounts a bit for fun, she made an alt on her husbands account, couple of months later wanted to bring it to hers ... and they banned them both. They mailed everything and such saying their husband and wive but they never replied (mind you this is EU .. heard the american GM's are allot nicer and helpfull)

The difference is:
You never account shared on the accounts that are in your name. You were always the one behind the wheel. Therefore, even IF you do get banned there is a large likelihood that you can get the ban reversed once you show proof of ownership.
Your friend's account, however, will be out of luck. It was being shared, and therefore the terms of use had been violated. If this one gets banned, there will be little chance of getting it back.

Just so you know. I have 3 accounts. They are all in my name (in some fashion). I boost most of my toons cause leveling sucks. I have never been approached or emailed about what i am doing. If i were wall hacking or botting it would be different. I seperated the accounts just in case Bliz got all high and mighty on me. But so far so good. If i were to lose my accounts i would just go play AOC and screw it hehe. 2 of the accounts have the same *exact* name. The 3rd however does not. Its all mine and has been from the beginning. but you never know with blizzard.
