I currently use party1 for all of my macros, since I like to swap out my 70 and my 25 paladin from time to time. I used to have target=toonname but that was inflexible. I tred joining a hogger raid, and my "main" wasn't party1, so my macros were useless. Should I use focus instead? I currently use it for my mage to sheep, but I rarely find a need to sheep, even with elite mobs. I was thinking about making a macro that predefines my "main order" for focus. Then all i have to do is make all my macros use focustarget instead of party1target. For healing in boss fights I plan on making a focustargettarget to always be healing the one with aggro, along with some generic small heal party1, big heal party3, HoT party1 HoT party3, etc all mapped to some keys (numpad maybe?) for specific heals. This should also let me switch mains, in a predefined order, should the leader die, all I have to do is refocus, and select the nest one from my list that is still alive.

Everything is working fine as long as I am in my own party, but I imagine if I go to a BG, I might not get put into the same party, and even if I am, My main might not be in the party1 slot unless im the raid leader.

How do you guys deal with the flexibility of your group in situations where you aren't the party leader, while still maintaining the ability to swap the leader (or any other character for that matter)?

I figured as much.

Also, I'd like to know the best way to modify my macros for when I am controlling an alt. If I use focus, and the character is focusing itself, will my macros work? Is this how my macros should look?
/cast [target=focustarget] spell; [target=target] spell

ok, so once focus is set, and all the macros reference the focus, how would I set the focus to change dynamically as necessary? What if I swap out my main? Or what if I want to focus on a 3rd party player (such as the MT in a raid)? Is there anything like raid1 raid2 similar to party1 and party2? Or do I have to put it all by name?

Do both.

/target [target=focustarget,harm,nodead][target=party1target,harm,nodead]

It picks your focus's target (if you have one), or your party1's target.

That's the ticket. I'd love to be able to have my butt covered early on, so when I try 10 mans, or even just spots in BGs or Raids, I can do well, and give multiboxing a good name. I didn't want to be stuck explaining that my macros weren't working right.

Now off to go edit files in my wtf folder. Much easier that way than in game IMO.

A good way to seperate what toon is what would be Xpear unit frames, you can get a 3d headshot of ur toons in party/raid

would make focus name easier

Guys PLEASE check the wiki... Vyndree was kind enough to reply here, but she had already posted this information http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Macro:Assist_via_Party_assignment_or_Focus

thanks

So even though I replied twice before her, helping this fellow out - I don't rate? Cute.

Hey, I loff joo!!!

I'm pretty sure he was only talking about redundancy, since my /target [target=focustarget,harm,nodead][target=party1target,harm,nodead] is already in the wiki.

Honestly, though... I forgot I even put it there. >.<
