View Full Version : Starting up dual-box after my vacation
Hello :)
Ive been playing wow for some time now, have a 70 welfare mage (i hate pve, no skills yet for high end pvp) and I always seen a quadboxer shaman, doing lightchain on AV and killing like 4 guys in a row :)
Its cool IMO :)
Well, quadboxing doesnt belong in my capabilities. Quadbox is nearly impossible on 1 pc and I guess 2 shamans is a cool start:)
Lets start with this, my PC spec:
Intel Quad Q6600
2 gig ram
Radeon x300 (needs to replaced as soon as ive got a job again)
Rest is not very important I guess.
I'm going for dual box. Ive read some information and stuff, but I like the more personal help.
I was wondering if there's anyone around here willing to give me some personal help to get me started to dual boxing, and, eventually maybe 3-boxing since I dont wanna spend huge amounts of € for a game :P
Id like to have contact with u via any IM u like, u can always PM me here or give me your msn (mine: ldk_waalre@hotmail.com)
Every tip is welcome! Thanks alot!
The questions I have:
-From your higher lvl experience: Will 1 screen do?
-Do i need to improve my vidcard in order to run 2 clients without TOO much problems?
-Is there anything else i need to know bout dual boxing on 1 pc?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I'm new to boxing aswell, so probably can't give much advice. The only thing I was going to say is that you could probably run 5 wow clients just on that PC.
My PC is only slightly better than yours:
Q6600
4 Gb RAM
NVidia 8800GTX
Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1
I thought I would have major problems running 5 wows, but using keyclone its fine. I have the 4 smaller alt windows down the right hand side of the screen with my main taking the rest of the screen. (Using a 24" widescreen monitor) and always have 50-60fps (I've capped it at 60fps) on whichever window I have in focus. The other windows are set to 15fps when they are not in focus (this is setup using keyclone). I'm using 8Mb broadband and I suffer no lag at all running 5 clients.
Cool. I see many people using follow on alts.
Cant u just make ur alts to use the same WASD movement? so u just all move the same way?
Thanks in advance.
BTW did u notice my vidcard? Ive got a x300 which is top of the worse I guess :P

BTW did u notice my vidcard? Ive got a x300 which is top of the worse I guess :PIf you are using the same WASD movement keys and your toons aren't facing the same direction, it'll look like lemmings running for the cliff... Also, when you turn, they ALL turn at the same time, not at the same spot your main would turn.
Prior to multiboxing I was a very strict "use the movement keys" to move folks. After having 3 clones end up in the trees, rivers and mobs in Azuremyst Isle... I went with the follow macro and mouse movement... MUCH less pain.
I DO use the arrow keys for spreading out my guys if I'm doing something in a town, etc... or in an instance where you have time to set up before the pulls, etc.
Just my 2c.
PS Unlike "follow only clones" you're alts will not go AFK since you'll be casting, etc with them, so you'll look less like the "AFK train" than most of the people just rushing up an alt with a level 70.
cool =D
Next week ill test everything out, rite now im preparing my mage for wotlk (getting epic pvp (no enchants) + mxing proff + making alot of money!)
I still have some more questions:
-How do u guys take care of your accounts? All on the same name or how else?
-Payment via 1 card? (guess thats no problem)
-Am I Rite if i say this: I box 3 shamans, via keyclone i get my alts to do the same spells (keyclone 1-8) as my main and I let them follow my main.
That would have me 3 shamans doing good damage together. For mounting etc. Ill have to go advanced with marcos. Can I make them to click the same vendor as my main?
Thanks in advance,
Luti

4 boxing on 1 pc is not even near impossible. Yes, your video card won't cut it, but if you can upgrade it ($200US buys you some really nice stuff right now), you can easily 4-box on that system if you are thoughtful about it (do some reading around here). With another 1G of RAM, you could even go to 5 if you wanted.
Lets start with this, my PC spec:
Intel Quad Q6600
2 gig ram
Radeon x300 (needs to replaced as soon as ive got a job again)

If by "more personal help" you mean you want somebody to tell you how to do stuff because you don't want to read, then sorry, no. If you want somebody to bounce ideas off of after you read all the stuff already in place on this board, then you are probably better just posting. If you want to PM me about those types of questions, I'm more than happy to help, but it might not be as immediate as you'd like.
I really think you'd be well served by spending 3-4 hours just combing this site for info. That's what I did to get started, and trust me, you'll be a lot better of in the long run.
