Any guesses on when the release will be? I'm guessing first of next year, same time frame as BC?

I sort of am. I will take a week off a month or two after the release. There will be too many people in the starting area that the lag will be insane, granted that there are now 2 starting areas, but still with so many people there mob drops will be farmed.

But how do you schedule vacation for an unkown date? /boggle
that is another reason for the month or 2 after the release. I have, right now, a flexible schedule that i really don't need to give too much notice on when to take time off. Knowing my luck i will be assigned to a 5 month project that i cannot take time off right before it comes out. Plus don't they usually give a couple months notice when the release date is. I might take that day off so i can buy the expansion pack and install it, but probably wont hit the new area.

I was going to, but getting a new JOB next week, so yeah, who knows.
You are lucky Drizz! Wish I could take vacation like that. :)
Aren't the predictions for late October early November release? If I remember correctly wowinsider did comparisons of events leading up to BC compared to events happening now and if it follows the same pattern then release is around November. Events meaning alpha start, etc. The retailers have also all changed their pre-order dates from end of November to November 3rd and I remember reading one posting that changed it to end of October.
I just happened to have 2 weeks off at the exact time BC released. I was the first Draenei to hit 70 on my server at the time and was flamed every single day by jealous bastards because of it :) Funny thing is that I wasn't even trying to be the first to 70 I was just trying to catch up to the rest of my guild so I wouldn't fall to far behind in the raiding scene.

But how do you schedule vacation for an unkown date? /boggleAbout 1 1/2 months before BC came out they gave a confirmed date that quite a few news site confirmed to be the real deal. I'm expecting something along the same lines will happen again this time.

Forgot about that place. Going to avoid that like the plague until like 5 months. Hopefully alliance and horde start at different spots. Talk about lag if they both start together. Now that i remember the dk zone i might just play the new zone right away because everyone will be making a dk. I also want to lvl to 80 as fast as i can so i can join a good raiding guild. Hoping to get to 70 by the end of august (both teams) then work on gear for the rest of the time. Get good gear so when the expansion comes out of can just grind instances.

I, too, also have the flexibility of giving short notice for time off and I can work from home if need be, but not preferred.
I fully realize there will be a rush on the new areas but I plan to only dual box my two 70 hunters that I leveled up sololy intitially. The mad rush is part of the excitement. The air intensifies. I really hope it's released when kids are in school though.
I plan to take vacation the first day it's released and start my week from that day on. I expect the first day or two or even three to have several problems, shut downs, resets, crashes, etc. Plan for the worst... hope for the best!

I'm so busy with work that I had to push all of my vacation i have left until December...... I'm shooting for a November release date for the winter holidays. it'd be nice, but hey, 3 weeks to level a few more teams would be good too! ../forum/images/smilies/biggrin.png

I don't plan to take any time off to coincide with the release of WotLK. There's nothing worse than taking a few days off and spending them trying to troubleshoot installation/upgrade problems, trying to stay logged on as the login servers melt under load, and trying to work my way through clogged zones on a PvP server (where there is guaranteed to be a dozen or two members of each faction deliberately running around ganking people for hours, making it impossible to do much more than read and accept a few quests).
I might take some days off once things are settled down and if I feel it would be a good way to spend a couple of days (never hurts to take some time off from the work grind).

I agree. I only take time off after my marathons or a really long relay runs. And then only like 2 days till I can walk half way normal. And even then I still get haggled at work because I look like I am walking like frakinstien. But I dont care, because I am usually sporting my finishers shirt and medal, so I figure the bling off sets the walk.

I'm going with november release, given they are starting hardware upgrades now and closed beta starting very soon.
I'll also be taking 4 weeks off and making a push for first 80 :D

Oh man, midnight launch was so fun when BC came out... SOOO many people farming, and the respawns were SO FAST... I swear they had people just watching and making the mobs spawn fast enough... Leveled so fast even with all the people... and NOBODY killed each other... all too busy trying to kill shit.
Definitely Saving my Vacation time... The guys in Gamestop were obviously overjoyed when we (my GF multiboxes too) reserved 10 copies of WotLK so we can pick it up at midnight :D

I hope it's that time.. taking time off to visit my family for my brother's 30th birthday then so it'd suit nicely.

Currently I'm not bothered when WotLK comes out (SHOCK HORROR!!!!!!)
I figure I'm not going to rush through the content. I'm not going to rush to be the first 80 (that will go to a big guild that mass boost one player through in roughly 20 hours like happened with BC).
I'll leave it a few days before even buying a copy. Then I'll have various groups of my characters doing instances, and will probably grind rep in preparation for being an 80. (I'm saying this now but I may actually earmark one of my characters to get to 80 as quickly as I can :) )

Eh.. forget saving time for WotLK. I'm saving my PTO for D3. I should have about 3 months saved up when that one is released. :)

It's the old saying... "To Each His Own"...
Personally... I don't care about the troubleshoot problems as they are to be expected. I also don't care that the zones are flooded with people. That's also to be expected. Frankly, there will be a lot of zones where people will be at so it stretches it out a bit.
For me... it's the excitement in the air of the release, the anticipation of finally installing it and getting online and sharing in that with other people. It's crazy fun!
And if servers go down for a day, then so be it... I'll do something else for the time with my vacation. :)
I just know that I would go crazy sitting at work knowing I could be at home playing the new expansion and see the new lands, the new mobs, the new quests, the new battleground, everything... nope... no way I would be productive at work lol.

I'll probably install and upgrade my accounts the day it comes out. The reason is REST XP. You don't get your rest xp from lvl 70 until you upgrade your account. Plus even if you don't do the new stuff and you upgrade your account the dailies in the BC will now give experience.

Heck, even the Outlands quests you never did should reward experience. Maybe a good reason to leave them for the expansion. Spend the first week doing all those quests getting easy exp.... unless they do like they did with BC... add an insane amount of quests!
Hmmm... the gold economy might shoot thru the roof. How much will we be earning for top quests at level 79? Hmmm... pretty soon stacks of light leather will sell for 5g ea! I know on my server I've sold stacks of wool for 5g each already.

Wool was always a pain for me to get. I always got just enough to lvl first aid, had to buy some when i did taloring. The real pain is when i started multiboxing, 7 toons i had to get first aid up with wool (2 already passed the wool in first aid, older toons), then i had 4 of them first aid. I was buying wool like it was going out of season.
What people are starting to do is do 25 quests and not turn them in. Once the expansion comes out turn them all in which will hopefully get you a lvl or 2. I think that is what the guy in japan did (first to lvl 70 in 1 day). I think he did like 20 old land quests and then just turned them all in at once to get an easy lvl. He was probably over geared too (the best the old land had), but as we all know a white drop was better then much of the purple gear in the old land.
I think they said like t4 gear shouldn't be replaced with green gear until around lvl 74 and t6 shouldn't get replaced until 77. I think (hope) they learned there lesson because everyone was complaining about it.

Interesting strategy there... clever. I'm not trying to rush thru the levels necessarily. I've done speed leveling before, my best time only being 1 to 60 in 3 weeks while holding down a full time job plus a family w/ kids (Pre-BC ofc). I only did that because I was on a new server with friends and I wanted to see if I could do it. I used Brian Kopp's guide which I will swear by.
But all the same... that's a clever strategy :)

I might take a day or two off for WotLK launch but not more then that.
The idea about loading up on completed BC quests for some instant exp is a good idea, I'll have to plan that out when I get closer to 70.

I say that the first person will be 18 hours this time... Probably a hunter. I wonder what you do after 18 hours and being 80? There really isn't much you can do. Can't raid, can't do heroic, can't do bg (well only av, and you would own because everyone is lower then you), and can't do arena.
Does anyone know what will happen to arena when it comes out? Will they have 2 arenas (one for 70 and the other for 80)? What about the PVP gear, right now you need to have a arena rating to use some of the bg stuff. Will they have a lvl 80 pvp set like s1 for bg?

I personally am looking at taking some time off from work to push hard to level cap, and forming my guild back up to raid again. Hard core casual raiding for those of us with jobs :)... 2-3 days a week, required attendance, etc...

If the planets align, I will take a week off and get my team up to 80 in a WoWfest of absurd proportions. Then I will think about a Deathknight Team for fun. On a side note I might level up my 5 shammy team just for giggles.

I work for myself so i can take any time i want off, I just don't because i lose a lot of money if I do. BUT i can take as many 4 day weekends as I want without losing anything. So i plan to take a few months worth of 4 day weekends off for WotLK 8)
However I have two teams to get to 80 and I'm in no real hurry. I'm no longer raiding so I will level the shaman/paly 1st. I'll level a DK when he has full rested for a break. When i get the first team to 80 I will level the DK to 70 ( if hes not 70 already ) He will tank for my other team to 80. I will only do that team when they all have full rested. So I'll play the main team to gear them up and PvP while waiting for team2 to get rested 8)

4 weeks? The first guy to hit 70 did it in 28 hours...
Yes, but Athene had the rest of his guild out-grouped and killing after he tagged so I don't count it :p
And yes, I should have made my point clearer....I'm taking 4 weeks leave, AND making a push for first (group) level 80...the two are mutually exclusive (or are they :/) since I can do one without the other, ie my push for 80 isn't dependent on taking leave, am aiming for around 3 days for it. Again, this depends on how the xp per level and quest/mob works out...will likely spend time just grinding the instances rather than outdoors depending on quest rewards.
