Ive been 2 boxing for a while now and the past weeks ive upgraded to 4 boxing. now ive got a new job etc i have hardly any time to play my characters.
soooo. i was thinking of getin a laptop so i can play at work :P lol, laptop i have at the moment only good enough to run 1 copy of wow and from playing 4 characters to 1 is just... ergh... cant stand it
well my post is about gettin a new laptop, and would like some input on what other laptop boxers use (specs) so i can get a decent enough one to play my 4 team :), any input will be nice
sorry if this makes no sense i do tend to talk about rubbish when i wite posts :) thanks alot.

I've got a Dell XPS M1730 running Nvidia 8700M GT 512MB SLI and runs 2 instances of WoW okay. If I minimized everything, I think I could push 3. If you want to 4-box, I'd say you have to get the 8800M GTX 1GB, but that's top-of-the-line that'll cost you an extra grand, just for the card.

Hey Smeg, I've got a Dell M1710 7950GTX 4GB RAM 2.2GHz. I 5 box with it adequately, I get extreme lag in highly populated spots in AV though. Personally I'd wait for montevina if you want something that will have no worries with 5 boxing on a laptop, due 3/4th quarter this year I think, and hopefully with quad core chips which is the main benefit.
Cheers

They have an option for 4gb ram, I'd highly recommend that.
You might also want to consider external cooling. My laptop gets REALLY REALLY hot when I box 2 toons....

if i upgraded to 4gb ram would you think it would be able to run 4 clients?
that kinda giives me another question, is ram most important thing to have?
average graphics card because it will only be displaying 1 instance? no? :S
i always get confused when it comes to specs, i really have no idea what to look for :) so glad i got u guys lolz

I'm using a HP Dv9000 which is around 2.4ghz with 2gb of ram, has a GeForce 7400 in it. I run 5 accounts just fine in instances and running around. The only problem I have is super high population cities like orgrimmar which make me lag so it takes me a few minutes to get past the entrance, other then that it works fine.
The key here is setting Maximizer to have your non-focused windows around 10fps. I can still see what they are doing and its not hogging all the resources trying to update them smoothly. I really don't need to look at them at all since I can see who is casting from my mains add-ons (xperl frames). If I need to play on them, I have their focused FPS around 20-25 which looks just fine in their smaller windows. Of course my mains fps is 15 minimum and around 40 focused cause I want to see the pretties XD

Hi,
I'm using an DELL XPS M 1530 (Dual-Core 2,4ghz, 4 GB RAM, 8600M GT) to 5-box with no real problems in normal populated areas.
Only thing i had to configure is using minimal system settings at my clones and an background fps of 10.

Dell Inspiron 1520. C2D 1.5ghz. 4GB RAM. 8600M GT 256mb.
Above specs have allowed me to 5box JUST fine. Runs great, get some choppyness in Shatt but thats to be expected. Other Capital cities runs just fine.

Imo its quite cheap. thats worrying me because i know things are too good to be true when they are cheap. affter looking at alot of other laptops the same spec but higher priced.
oh i dont know, if im not happy im sure i can ship it back to wherever it came from :S lol!
ty again people sorry for keeping this annoing post up ^^

GRAPHICS CARD: NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8400M GS with 128MB dedicated graphic memory
Get the 8600M GT if at ALL possible. 128mb of mem for your gfx card isn't quite enough for 4 or 5 boxing. Your really gonna want atleast 256mb of ram on your gfx. Other than that looks aces

A number of the components you have listed are lower end, this is probably why the price is lower than expected.
As previously stated, the 8400M GS 128mb is definitely the weakest piece. Get something in the 256-512mb range. I would prefer an 8800m GTS if I were speccing a laptop for boxing, but the 8600m's should do the trick.
The processor could also benefit from an upgrade. Aside from its 2.0ghz rated speed, it's cache is as small as they come (in that product line) and you will be asking a lot of that processor. For a dual core processor, I would recommend a 4mb l2cache. <--I learned this lesson the hard way

yes i noticed the graphics after i i posted, quickly made an upgrade NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory ( think it will be ok runnin on low settings )
and also upgraded to : Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache)
cant really go much higher because im on tight budget lol :)
