so, i have leveled 5 70s in the past singly.
and i have duel box leveled 2 warlocks to 60.
on the warlocks i figured hey its only 2 i might as well just take x2 the time on these quests (Collecting).
but now im 3 boxing. (Mages)
and its becoming too tedious for me.

my question to u fellow multi boxers.
did u skip collection quests.
do them.
grind.
instance.
or something else magical of the sort >_>.

its bugging me. tell me your thoughts. and knowledge i so desperately need to hear.

Skip collection quests.
Do transport/kill quests.
Boost/run through instances for good xp and loot.

I skip them unless they are part of a quest chain I need or want

The quest exp rewards are so much better now post 20 I just don't bother with anything that is a collection quest that does not have a reward I want or is part of a chain I need. Do yourself a favor don't be afraid to do every kill quest they are the opposite of collection quests for MB'ers as they have better returns for us, In your case three times the exp for three times easier work. then just move onto a new area and do all there kill quests then go to an instance if you feel you missed out on exp. Variety is the spice of life and all that. I only do escort quests on Pve serverrs, on pvp you are just asking for grief.

One kind of collection quest I do do, are instance ones, they keep the tedious nature of instances productive for a bit.

The only time I take collection quests is when one of my toons is falling behind on xp, for example, deaths or when my 4 shamans need to do shaman quests my pally falls behind. I will do collection quests with only that toon, along w/kill quests, until they are all caught up.

And BTW, once you get your flight paths, going from zone to zone to do just kill quests takes little time and is well worth it.

I only dual box, but I do all quests -collection included. I figure, I'm loosing a little xp for having a second toon along, so I make up for it with these quests that I kinda refer to as "grinding quests".

I do some collection quests. I have two 70s I leveled questing (individually) so I sort of know which gathering quests take a long time. But generally, if they ask me to gather more than 5 I skip. Exceptions both way if I remember droprate being particularly good or bad.

For my 5x Shamans, I'm now up to 56, I did:
1-20 Questing in Draenei starting area (did most drop quests)
20-40 Boosted through SM Cath Ad Nauseum
40+ Have been questing (avoiding 5+ gather quests), and doing instances by myself (not boosted). So far I've completed ZF, Ulda, and at least attempted ST, BRD

I do the collection quests if the drop rate is good, say 70%. As a pally + aoe team rounding up mobs and blasting them is trivial so why not.

and because u (thread starter) leveled so many chars, i bet u know wich quests take more time, and wich dont.
my approach is powerleveling (70 booster) till 50, and past 50 just do quests with ur guys, alone.
To me the hardest is 50 to 58, and when i reach 58, i open a bottle of champagne and enter outlands! yesterday i done that, and im having a blast doing ALL quests! The joy of gearing up, and make more and more damage, is the best :D

instances/instance quests more than make up for collection quests.

i do every quest i can get my hands on in a zone.... of course i'm trying to get up enough rep for SW so that i can get a pony instead of an elephant. Just remember... the more mobs you kill the more exp, the more mobs you kill also more of a chance to get loot. So if you have the time and the patience... why not? But like mentioned above its not for everyone. if you are trying to just rush through lvling then sure skip them, but if you are just out to have a good time and get some loot along the way. Kill it all!

Note that some collection quests are items you can pick up on your main & pass out -- sadly that's not most of them, but there are a few in zangarmarsh for example (bog lord tendrils etc).

But in general I skip collections as well, they're tedious at the best of times.

After killing boars for what seemed like HOURS for Boar meat for Billy, I vowed to never do collection quests, other than to make up for a char that is slightly behind. It's not worth it IMO when you can just do an instance by yourself. Plus you get nice loot from the instance, and experience in how you control all 5 in a dungeon.

I've got 4-boxes. Up to level 28 I was doing questing, but the levels were coming in so slowly (3 hours per level roughly), and the collection quests so unbelievably annoying that I switched to using my 70 hunter to run the 3 28's through instances at high speed for xp. Only looting after the final boss is dead. They are now pulling in about one level per hour, and are currently level 35/36 by runs through SM Cathedral. Granted, the fourth account isn't leveling any more, but that account already has my 70 hunter on it, so no biggie.

In the past I've found it faster to level an alt on a second account by just instance runs as well. Those were always just on /follow though. Now accounts 2-4 are actually kicking off instant spells to help the main, so the overall DPS is being helped out.

I have avoided collection quests for the most part. As others have stated, sometimes they are necessary for the completion of a chain. Overall I have found that kill/escort quests + clearing entire regions of "orange to you" mobs is enough. I'm starting my first run of Deadmines this afternoon for my 5-man team and expect to spend a lot of time in instances...
